    So I just watched The Godfather Epic on HBO. What they did was take all the scenes, with some additional scenes, from both I & II and play the scenes out in chronological order. This was an interesting way to watch these two landmark films.

    I haven't watched either of these films in about seven years and got an even better appreciation for what true masterpieces that Puzo and Coppolla gave us.

    I was really impressed with Clemenza, Richard Castellano, who by the way was the nephew of "Big Paulie" Castellano. Too bad they couldn't agree to have him the sequel.

    The whole thing is about seven hours. Well worth the time, IMHO.

    Enjoy!!! :peace::beer::nworthy:

    Argh! I got sucked into this the other day. Watched the whole thing. Did some internet reading about added and deleted scenes. Good stuff.

    I can't say I liked it very much. Part of the genius of the Godfather is the editing. I think a lot of those deleted scenes should have stayed on the cutting room floor. Also, the juxtaposition of young Vito and Michael in 2 is what made it a masterpiece. (Still watched the whole thing)

    I have to agree. The first Godfather was so much about the crime family and Michael getting lured down the rabbit hole. The second film we see the back story of how the Corleone family rose to power and eventually the corruption of Michael's soul where he loses everything for the sake of his crime family. The very people (Fredo, Connie, and Kay) he was trying to protect. I get sucked into watching these movies every time they are on cable. Some movies are pure art which should never be touched or have sequels made. It dishonors the original work. I do appreciate some director cut versions of films, where art was sacrificed for marketing and run time purposes.

    The performance of Robert De Niro as Vito Corleone, done in Italian, is perhaps one of the greatest acting performances of all time.

    I have the 4 dvd set and have watched them numerous times. I started watching the epic and at first was disappointed that they edited it to be in chronological order, but then I started to see scenes that never made the final movie and it kind of sucked me in. 4 hours last night and the remaining 3 next Thursday when my wife is again bowling on her league.

    Not that it matters to anyone, but the original movie is still my favorite.

    The additional scenes made watching it again worthwhile.

    I saw it once before and if memory serves me correct, I believe they extended, by quite a bit, the scene where Clemenza takes Paulie out to the marshes.

    I should really watch it as an adult someday. I didn't understand Godfather I or II when my Dad took me to see it when I was 6 and 9-years-old respectively. I just remember the scene where everybody was standing around Sonny shooting him with a machine gun.

    Cutting room floor, but yes, very extended scene. Still my all time favorite line "leave the gun, take the canollia". :thumbsup:

    Yes, they did. Apart of that extension was seeing Clemenza eat lunch. I know the man ate, I didn't need to witness. I also didn't need to see Michael give his blessing to Sonny's daughter to be married.

    Yep, one of the best movie lines of all time. I was reading up on Richard Castellano (Clemenza). Apparently that was an ad lib. If true, wow!!! Even if it wasn't an ad lib someone still had to think of it. So casual and so subtle....brilliant.

    So far I like this version with all of the deleted scenes added back, I'm only up to Connie's wedding.

    As for favorite quotes, I often use these in some business situations with colleagues: "it's not personal, it's just business", "make him an offer he can't refuse", "present me with a bill for such services, after all, we're not communists", "revenge is a dish best served cold", "when did I refuse an accommodation". "My final offer is this: nothing. Not even the fee for the gaming license, which I would appreciate if you would put up personally", "let me wet my beak".

    AMC runs it like this from time to time. I prefer a traditional marathon, though.
