Downtown (Non-Casino) Restaurants?

I've read a handful of good reviews for DT restaurants that have opened in the past few years - Therapy, Carson Kitchen, Glutton, etc. But I don't think I've ever ventured off Fremont (other than to go to MSS) in any of my visits to DT. So I don't have a clue about any of them.

I'd love to hear suggestions/reviews/opinions from some VMBers with more downtown savvy than yours truly. Where should I go for an early dinner the night I'll be downtown on my next trip? What restaurants - again, not in a casino - have impressed you? Any place I should avoid at all cost?

I'll consider any price point and type of cuisine (okay, maybe not a burger joint, pizza place or the like). I'd just like it to be an easy walk, for a healthy 40-ish guy, from the Fremont area.

We enjoyed Eat and Bocho sushi a great deal. MTO Cafe was also tasty.

 

Our traditional first meal in Vegas is an early dinner at Le Thai on East Fremont - we've never been disappointed.

 

Not really downtown but a shout out for district one on west Sahara. Their ox pho is amazing.

Park on Fremont does some good food as well.

 

Triple George is a great steakhouse. Located next to Pizza Rock and across the street from DTG. Very cool decor, kind of something from the 40s & 50s, lots of handcrafted tile floor and has a lot of polished wood (insert joke here). The food is exceptional, the service is splendid and the atmosphere is great. I travel solo and eat at the bar. They also have many semi-private booths. This is by far my favorite restaurant downtown. The prices are not bad either. I usually have the NY strip with a salad and some veggies, the green beans are incredible, and with a couple of beers or glasses of wine I get out of there after a nice tip for about $70. I don't get all geeked out about food, but Triple George is always on my dance card for my trips to Vegas. Give it a shot, you'll be pleased.

 

The "Perch" in the container park area is getting good reviews but, I have not been there personally.

I like Le Thai, too.

 

Another vote for Le Thai & Triple George, too.

I don't venture too far from Fremont St, and I think those are the only 2 non casino places I've eaten at.

Guess I've been lucky, as I thought both of those were excellent

 

This is good info for me. I am likely to be solo next trip, and want to get a good steak(ribeye or filet) . So this place may be the ticket

 

Le Thai is really good. Also, Pizza rock has probably the best pies in Vegas in my opinion.

 

Triple George (and Pizza Rock) could be excluded as they are technically part of Downtown Grand....

Park on Fremont was a little pretentious, serving beer in mason jars etc.

Nacho Daddy is a good place to just sit at the bar having a drink and a bite to eat.

 

Has anyone been to Therapy? Looks interesting.

 

That'd be a sad reason to skip Triple George--it's across the street from DTG, not really "in the casino."

I concur with mike omeara pensacola--Triple George is great. I have had fish tacos (special of the day) as well as steak and pot roast from the regular menu. All were great. (The pot roast was the best I've ever had.)

 

I always enjoy a meal at Triple G, and for the purpose of this thread I say it is a win/win: it is a non-casino restaurant in that it opened as a place keeper for the old Lady Luck long before the DTG, and you can use your DTG comps there. We always sit at the bar and the service is impeccable. Do order the calamari.

 

I had a friend who ate at The Smashed Pig Gastro Pub on East Fremont and said it was super delicious. Plan on trying that on our trip in April. Also heard great things about F Pigalle on East Fremont. This is a fondue place, but has a pretty eclectic (and naughty) vibe. If you are easily offended, its probably not your place.

 

OMG - how did I forget Carson Kitchen, which I have actually visited! This place is INCREDIBLE. Bacon Jam. Order it. Thank me later. It can be very busy, and the seating is mostly communal, but its delicious.

 

Heart Attack Burger is the best. You can eat for free if you are 350 pounds or more.

 

Closest I would come to eating at HAG is looking through the window.

 

Therapy is amazing and probably our favorite place to dine in Vegas. Food, service, atmosphere all are total top notch. On our first late night visit we had about a 20 minute conversation with the owner who joined us for a drink (Comped) after our meal and before closing. We stay on the strip but go downtown one night each trip just to go to Therapy.
