Excalibur Super Bowl Sunday

I’m heading to Las Vegas February 7th (Super Bowl Sunday) for my first time and will be staying for 5 nights at the Excalibur. I did some research but I would love to get some advise from people who have been before. Mostly I would like information about the Excalibur but would appreciate any Las Vegas tips. I called Excalibur last night to confirm my room and was told I have a “Deluxe Room”. What should I expect with that?

Excalibur is generally a three-to-four star rated resort (dependent on who's doing the rating). Remember, we live in a you-get-what-you-pay-for world, so ...

 

The term "Deluxe Room" is a term almost every hotel uses to refer to their most basic room.

WHen you check in they should give you an option to upgrade your room, usually for just $10-15 per night, you should take that as the room upgrade will have a large flatscreen TV and a pretty comfy bed with pillowtop mattress.

For the hotel itself: if you check reviews the place gets a pretty bad rap from people who have never stayed there or set foot in the property, but generally decent reviews from people who have actually stayed there. The big thing is to have proper expectations: its a decent hotel with a pretty big food court, an OK pool (might be open year round), the rooms are what you should expect from a cheaper hotel stay and the upgraded rooms are pretty decent. There is an AM/PM across the street (exit under the Tower I to the street and then cross Las Vegas Boulevard) where you can get cheap smokes, beer, snacks, etc.

For the casino: it is more slots centric that some of the surrounding casinos, but they do have table games. If you are a slot player you will usually find a pretty decent selection of some of the newest games. The poker room is one of the easier ones to beat in Las Vegas.

For the sportsbook: I've never been there for The Big Game (not supposed to say "SuperBowl") but on almost any NFL Sunday the sportsbook is usually pretty busy with bettors and people watching the games. They usually have some decent drink and food deals at the bar (for the longest time they had a beer and hot dog combo for $2-3 that they might still have).

 

Excalibur has some good decently priced places to eat, and I enjoy spending some time in their casino. I have only stayed there once though and swore never again. The rooms were not great, and the hotel was full of children (I love kids but don't enjoy getting woken up at 7am to screaming children in the hallway on vacation, and thats exactly what happened every morning there). I know people who like to stay there, so I think its the kind of place you just need to stay for yourself to form an opinion. I would suggest the room upgrade it offered though.

 

I stayed at the Excalibur a few weeks ago for 3 nights. Check-in was mid afternoon and a breeze. I'm MLife Gold and was more interested in getting checked in early than an upgrade to a newer room. Parked right in front of the Tower 2 doors and walked right in. Tower 2 is the south east tower. The room and bathroom were very clean and no odd smells. Yes, the table and 2 chairs were worn and the furniture quite dated, but the 42" TV was new. The bed linens were fine but don't expect 500 count sheets. The bed was actually quite comfortable. The bathroom was sparse with a shower mad basic amenities. The towels are a little skimpy, but housekeeping brought up a few more when we asked. The room was quiet and dark A/C and heat worked fine, housekeepers did a good job as well. Now...the hallway outside the room was like going back in time. Dark, dreary and not very well lit. Would I stay there again? Probably not. I only stayed there due to the proximity to Mandalay Bay where I was attending a conference. MB was way to expensive and Luxor only had Pyramid rooms which I don't like.
