MGM 1/21-26 --I think I am losing my hope in humanity

I'll get the bad out of the way. Several disheartening things I witnessed and one very tragic/horrible incident. On my first night in the casino at MGM I walked off and left my i-phone on a machine. I realized it pretty quickly and went back -- it was gone. I was hoping some good samaritan would pick it up and turn it in to lost and found. No such luck. I tried texting to my phone and calling. I know I was careless. I just don't understand people who steal from others.

Our first night in the room was awful. We were in a Grand King Room. The girls/women next door were awful. I don't think they were partying but there must have been at least 4-5 girls/young women all talking very loudly at the same time. Non stop from 10pm-until after midnight. We had to call security -- when I say talking loudly --I really mean they were yelling non stop. Not fighting just laughing and yucking it up. When security got there they were just leaving. The security guard stopped by our room and asked us to let them know if we had any more problems. All was quiet -- until 5:30 AM -- when it all started again. We had a room with the connecting door - so the noise just poured into our room. My husband opened our side and pounded on the door and yelled at them to shut #$## the up. That worked for about 30 minutes. Long enough for us to fall asleep. And then it started again at the same decibel. At around 8:30 we went to the front desk and asked for a room change. Which we got -- a non connecting quiet room. I ran into a young man a few days later who was changing rooms for the same reason. He said he was rocked awake at 1AM to a party. Again I don't understand the selfishness of some people. They obviously did not give a rat's ass about anyone else around them.

These first two although upsetting, were little bumps along the way. On Sunday we took a Grand Canyon Bus Tour. The tour itself was very good and I will address that more later on. As my husband and I were walking up to a trail head we encountered an elderly couple walking down from the overlook. They were both on the feeble side. The woman looked unsteady on her feet and using a walker. Her husband was yelling at her saying she never listens and does everything wrong and on and on. A few minutes later we were up at the overlook a good ways from the parking lot and his yelling has turned into screaming at the top of his lungs cursing at her and calling her stupid. Had he been carrying on like that earlier I would have been up in his face and calling the police for Adult Protective Services. He was obviously the caregiver in the relationship. I could not believe how horrible he was treating her and made me very sad.

Then yesterday, Monday I witnessed just feet in front of me a man in a car deliberately run down a homeless man on the strip. My husband and I had just finished eating breakfast at the Denny's right up the strip from MGM. There was a lot of construction going on and partially closed streets etc. As usual people were constantly walking into crosswalks against the lights. We were standing at the stop light right in front of Denny's waiting to cross. About 6 people crossed before the light turned - including the homeless guy. Everyone kind of darted quickly but the one man was walking slow. The car coming had to slam on his brakes to stop. The car had the green light and the man stood there in his way and glared at the driver. The driver laid on the horn and the guy wouldn't move. The driver just plowed into the man and he went up on the hood and was thrown into the intersection about 15 feet and the driver sped away. I'm yelling OMG someone call 911 and my husband took off into the street and was holding this man's hand telling him not to move, everything was going to be okay. Here I am the old ER nurse standing around in shock and my husband is out in the middle of the street with him and now I am worried about him being hit too. I and two other people now run into the intersection. The guy was thrown 12-15 feet easy after he rolled off the hood. He was not bleeding and I saw no obvious broken bones but I am pretty sure he had someone broken ribs at the very least. The police got there very quickly and EMS. We had to give statements to the police before we were released. I can't imagine why anyone would be so heartless and evil to do something like this. It was our last full day and seeing this really shook me up. I would be sitting at a VP or slot machine and just get tearful thinking about it. That night I saw several of the homeless on the bridge. I gave money to two of the guys who had their dogs with them. And they were both very grateful and it warmed my heart. I don't know what the answer is for all these people and I know that not everything can be fixed. All I know is unto the least of these.

So that's the bad and the sad and I will post a condensed TR with a more light hearted approach. Since I didn't have a phone I don't have pics of any of my wins. Had no Royals but came close and had several 4oaks. I did get some great pics of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam on my camera. It will take me a little while to figure out how to get it loaded off the camera onto my chromebook.

 

That's a pretty sad picture you paint for society. I'm a teacher and unfortunately I'm not sure a lot will be changing in the future. No need to go into the details as i'm sure most of you can use your imaginations.

Day 1 - Thursday - I had posted on an earlier thread I tried to make this trip coincide with a meeting of a group my husband belongs to. Because of my work schedule I could not get off a day earlier. He missed the meeting and ceremony - but he took it all in stride and we will definitely plan it right next year. Our 7:30 flight out of Austin was uneventful. I paid for early check in at MGM but they had nothing early. By the time we got a room it was around 1 pm and we had both been up for over 24 hours. We grabbed Nathan's for lunch and took it up to the room. I used my 2 for 1 coupon from ACG. I love the Philly Cheese Steak and their fries are great. While waiting for our room we both had $85 in myvegas slot play. I got $35 and my husband converted his into about $20. I can't remember what I played that day. I spread it out over many machines. I even played Cleopatra - she gave me nothing.

Later that night we at Tap at MGM. I really liked it last August but this time not so good. The service was great. I got sliders and my husband got a Bacon Cheeseburger and both were lacking. My sliders were very salty -- and I love salt and usually have to salt everything. Not the problem with these. We split onion rings and again nothing great -- I rank them with Whataburger or Jack-in-the-box.

After dinner my husband had to watch his girlfriend - Megyn Kelly-- he can't go one night without her. He has been a fan since she was on a morning news show. It is something I have to tolerate -- just like he tolerates my boyfriend Jason Statham:evillaugh

So I played a little VP -- which is where I lost my phone that walked off. I hit one 4OAK queens on JB and several full houses. Twice had 4 to a royal but couldn't get one. I was up about $100 and turned in about 10 pm. Watched a little TV and then had to deal with the party girls next door.

The good thing about my phone is I kept the more expensive insurance for theft/loss so I do get a replacement -- for $200 and I do not pay using apps on my phone and didn't have any info on the phone and it does lock automatically. Security told me it could be stripped for parts.

I forgot that before we turned into the night we trekked down to Walgreens for Crown for the hubby and Svedka Cherry Vodka and Cranberry juice for me.

We've stayed at mgm for years and never had any problems, however, on our last trip in October we experienced the same thing. We got back to our room fairly early for us and just wanted to relax and go to sleep it was close to midnight and the folks next door were raging. I'm mostly a let it be kind of person but it would not stop and I too finally called security. Soon enough they left but geez. Music at the highest level,, laughing, yelling. Enough is enough.

 

Day #2 -- As I discovered during my unpacking I had apparently left 1/2 of my brain at home. I left my purse at home. I don't carry it on the plane because I use a larger carry on bag. I also left my hair brush at home. -- So now I am looking for a phone, a purse, and a brush. We head down the strip and yes Virginia there is a Marshall's. I don't care for Marshall's in San Antonio - they have the old dirty K-mart blue light special feel to them. But this Marshall's was like the Emerald City for me. I found a cheap but good purse, a brush, and a beautiful Lucky Brand shirt for $30.

All I need now is a phone. This is where it got complicated we went to Miracle Mile Shops - no, Fashion Show Mall --no - they had a microsoft store but wanted $175 plus a contract -- no. Finally the Walgreens by Venetian $40 for T Mobile then a $10 card. The phone is only $3 a month for 30 minutes. My semi-prepper husband has always wanted a cheap disposable phone - so it served two purposes. When I had lost all hope in the cretin who stole my phone I called sprint - they deactived my phone and had an old phone with me they could have activated that phone temporarily for me. I have an old iphone. I think from now on I will bring an old back up with me -- just in case. Just food for thought if anyone else loses a cell phone and you have a major carrier -- pack your old one along.

 

Day #2 continued We did the food court McDonald's sausage/egg mcmuffin for breakfast. After all our shopping and ending up on the north strip we stopped and played at the Wynn and got a Red Card- if we got 300 points we could come back and spin the wheel for all kind of prizes. The least of them was $10 free slot play even up to $10,000 slot play - so Steve Wynn dangled the carrot. I got about 120 points and my husband didn't want a card until he was tracked down at the slots and joined. I broke even and my husband was down about $50. We decided to come back the next day and try again and headed back to MGM - we decided on the buffet - it was Friday and I couldn't use myvegas comps but had a $75 food/beverage from mlife. I used to like the MGM buffet - but it was disgusting. By now it was Megan Kelly time again and I hit the casino again. I made about $50 on an Elvis machine and played off that on Video Poker for about 2 hours before I gave it back. I tried the multi play and super times but they were not very good to me. I did the best on plain old JB.

 

I've already have. A long time ago.

 

Don't lose all faith, my gf lost her DSLR camera in the casino at MGM last June one night................we went back the next day and it had been turned in. There are still some good people around!

 

Rough time Val.

We spent two weeks in Vegas in December (my wife and myself and we also paid for my brother in laws flight and vacation as a birthday gift since he is out of a job for a year+)

We were heading west towards Orleans (from the back side - the road which goes past Rio).

As we approached the Rio (we were in the left lane heading west) - my brother in law shouted out to me to watch out and this homeless guy was right in front of us trying to cross the road. He may have been intoxicated or high because he never even flinched or even looked to the right for incoming traffic.

I had a green but that was the quickest reaction I have had in terms of turning the wheel and I may have missed him by around 6 inches - somehow I swerved back right and avoided the car waiting to make a left turn and also (miraculously) the median.

The homeless guy did not even know we almost hit him (and could have killed him) and somehow he avoided another car behind us in the right most lane.

Most scary moment I have had in Vegas and your story brought back those memories from December.

I left my wallet & cigs in the tray of a slot in the d last September wallet only had about $300 in it but all my uk debit & credit cards It was only couple mins before I noticed I left it behind went back & it had gone. Went to front desk who got security for me and he said we just left a message on your room phone to let me know it had been handed in by one of the floor workers

 

I was nowhere near Denny's !

 

There's still decent people out there.....my wife lost her phone in a casino, and security had it before she knew she lost it.

 

Yeah, can't guarantee it will be there, but a decent amount of times it is. Casino employees are told to turn it in. When I lost my ID at Excalibur, the girl in front of me at the security desk was retrieving her phone. She was 1 of 2 she said. Unfortunately, some people suck though and don't care about others. OP seemed to run through more than her fair share this trip.

 

Day #3 I played more VP that morning at MGM for the most part I broke even up and down but it was nice to sit at a VP machine for a couple of hours only losing $40. We had our usual Mickey D's Mcmuffin and coffee and then for lunch we used the ACG coupon for Original Chicken Tenders -- Get them every time they are great -- beats the heck out of Chicken mcnuggets. Then we went to the Wynn and I got my butt kicked on the VP there and mixed in a few slots and lost close to $200 chasing that stupid 300 points. My husband -- found his own personal ATM betting the minimum 50 cents on Fred Flinstone. He won about $200 and got his 300 points. We went up to the desk to spin the wheel. The person in front of us was just finishing - he got the $10 free slot play -- So next my husband and I -- and of course win the $10 slot play -- Kind of pissed at Steve Wynn right now over that one. Two people in back of us also redeeming there 300 points for a spin and both were awarded the $10 free play. The guy at the desk tried to convince me that I only needed less than 400 points to get 2 buffets. After spending a few hours there we went through the Palazzo and Venetian. I used a coupon from ACG for San Genaro Burgers in the Venetian food court. I highly recommend this place. We both had the Bacon Cheeseburger and it was wonderful -- Really-- and with bogo coupon it made it a great deal. We went back to Harrah's as I had the bogo for the monorail for 5 days. I know it is not always convenient but from MGM it is nice to travel up the strip.

I stayed in the Casino on mainly VP for a short while -- the next day was our Grand Canyon Tour and pick up time was 6:40 in the morning.

 

I would've done one thing differently.......wait until party girls go to sleep at 8 or 9 AM and that's when you start banging on walls, doors, turning up the TV etc.

 

So Sunday was our Grand Canyon Bus Tour. We booked on line about 2 weeks prior. It was $75 a person which included a light breakfast and sandwich lunch. We were picked up at 6:40 in the morning on a small shuttle and then going to meet up for the larger bus. We stopped at Aria to pick up the last passenger. At first I didn't know what we were waiting for -- it was at least 20 minutes and then we see a young woman dash toward the shuttle bus and hop on. She is almost in tears and starts apologizing to everyone for being late -- her alarm did not go off she said. I guess she was a solo traveler and by her accent she was British. She then non-chalantly said "You know things happen and it wasn't her fault her alarm did not go off" We all just glared at her -- when you book the tour it plainly states pick up time and they don't wait for no shows. Then she pleads with the driver that she left her wallet in her room and she has no way to pay for the tour can she go back and get it. The driver is obviously mad but tells her to make it quick. She bolts off again and it takes at least another 10 minutes for her to get back. Needless to say no one was happy with her. After all that drama we make it to a parking lot in a strip mall and split up into 2 groups - The west Rim and the south Rim. We were south. We got 15 minutes at The Hoover Dam to take pictures. It is the older bypass bridge and you have to go through a security check where they put mirrors under the bus and walk through the bus -- suitcases are not allowed. Then we stopped at Kingman for quick potty break at a gas station. Next stop Seligman Arizona for another pit stop and some Route 66 photos and gift shops. Next stop Grand Canyon. We were dropped off at Bright Angel Lodge and there you can pick up a couple of different shuttles to different parts of the canyon. We chose one that took us up to a visitor center where you can walk up to Mather Point just a few hundred feet or so. This is where we encountered the nasty man berating his elderly wife. Then you take a walking trail skirts around the canyon for 2 1/2 miles and end up back at Bright Angel. They give you 3 hours to explore on your own. It took a little less than than from shuttle to hike with many stops for photos and get back in time to hit the gift store for t-shirt for my Grandson. We got back to the hotel about 9 pm. We did not have to change buses when we got back in town. The driver had to let people off in different spots - there was so much construction and roads blocked off in front of Aria again -- the driver said there was a movie still filming at the Aria for the last couple of weeks -- I assume it is the Jason Bourne film.

I had not seen the Grand Canyon since I was a little girl and my husband had never seen it. It is truly amazing and would have loved to had the time to drive and take our time. But if you have several days in Vegas and want to split it up the tour bus is a great option. After getting back to our room and cleaning up. I went back to the Casino at MGM and it was packed -- I had to search for a VP machine that wasn't occupied. I had a couple 4OAK and I was switching back and forth from DW to JB. As usual no big wins and was down some. For the entire trip so far I was down about $300 for the whole trip. That is including what I lost at the Wynn.

 

Can I ask something...

If you had done this, and the gentleman had no so kindly told you to mind your own business, what would your response have been?
