    My Trip Report

    Jan 8 Friday
First non live TR in a while. 22 year old cousin J decided on a whim to join me a few weeks before, so this became more of a sight seeing and tour guide trip, much less gambling than usual. Still lots of fun.

FLL>LAS was smooth as silk. Curbside valet is the best, scored 2nd row window on Southwest. J flew out of DTW.

Traffic on last day of CES made our backroad Lyft trip to the D slow but ended up costing $14. Nice. J hadn't used Lyft so got a promo code for $5 off 10 rides.

Checked into D without issue, 3 nights comped. Ended up only using 1 night before moving to Cosmo Saturday. First note is I love old school AC units like Cosmo has in the wall. Gets room ice cold. Cosmo we had to leave balcony door open most nights because even lowest temp AC got to was unbearably warm.

Obligatory pre-gambling BR check. 2.5k aprox.

    $50 D Freeplay into profit.

J had no idea how to play VP.. so lots of learning for him this trip.

His first Fremont experience was a blast. He loved the cover bands and the party vibe.

Traveled to Nugget for $50 promo chips.

First of lots of roulette action. First trip I've ever played this much roulette. It's J's game.
Found a table that was alternating red/black so followed the trend. $50 promo into $100 real money!

Night starts getting blurry. Downtown is so nice, they don't bat an eye at comping us Fireball shots with our drinks everywhere from Golden Gate bar while sweating Laker game to DT Grand Furnace bar.

Got the BAC monitor some of you guys use in your TRs lol. Seems wildly inaccurate at times.

Winner winner. Beginning to a rough sports betting weekend.

DT Grand $40 freeplay into profit.

    Detroit rock city cover!!

$10 GG freeplay into a nice $200 quad. No idea why I bumped up 50c. Alcohol!

First time in Mermaids for years. Telling him how this is the place to get wasted. Not 5 seconds after sitting playing 10c VP, we get cocktails. J's first vodka cranberry ever.. he's like I love this!

Sidenote, while he took a leak before we left, I'm half drunk singing along to the overhead music in Mermaids. Michael Jackson impersonater sitting at a VP machine says in a high voice "I heard you singing Backstreet Boys...". What a great conversation snippet for J to walk up to.

This is where the night gets blurry. Ended up at a 4 Queens roulette table. Had lots of fun, it was some girls birthday and 3 sheets to the wind at this point we all at the table take shots of peach schnapps. Didn't need that.

No filter on this pic and I love it. Matches my vision at this point and check out the number just hit. WOO! Got my hand slapped after taking picture of the chips.

    I'm light blue :)

Began my weekend of winning decently at roulette and I'm hooked now.

Stumbled back to D, McD's breakfast sandwiches and passed out for the night. What a first night for J!

Great first night. I walked into Mermaids and played a slot but did not get a drink. Being on the meds I figured not risk it!

First time eating at the D grill. Empty house, food came out super quick, was all good. Comped via food voucher and in-room coupon.

J snagged two seats at Longbar for the KC/HOU kickoff and I jetted over to the DTG to try to get my second day of $40 freeplay. Nothing came up when I put my card in. Do you have to wait 24 hours between freeplay uses? Not sure what the deal was but left quickly and headed back to the D for the came. KC easily covered 3 for us but the over of 40 or so wasn't hit. J was quickly loving sports betting and understanding moneyline vs points, prop bets and the like.

    Winner!

Had another winning session at VP.

Even J, who wasn't loving how VP tends to eat your $20s, finally hit his first quad and it was on the weirdest draw possible.

Took a Lyft to Cosmo between games. Got a Terrace room 5511 in West Tower as a 40/night upgrade from comped City Room (2 weeknight offer + 1 free Sterling night). The view, as always, was fantastic, and I was happy for J to get to stay somewhere like this on his first trip out.

Saw what Book & Stage has become.

Not a fan of a dark room with a bunch of couches basically. But B&S wasn't a proper sports bar, which is something they desperately need to become a property for me that I could stay at an entire trip without leaving.

Watched first half of PIT/CIN game at Queue where Jeff recognized me as usual. Good guy.

Had a lot of drinks by this time. At half time we decided to walk up toward TAG and Linq area with plans of bouncing around down back toward Cosmo after.

Watched the end of the game at TAG but no seats were open at the bar or any of the machines/tables around, packed house. After the insane finish of the CIN/PIT game, where J lost his CIN ML bet and I lost my Steelers -3 bet (they won by 2), we tried looking for cheap $5 roulette.

First time going into the mini-O'Sheas.. liked this picture. Reminds me of my favorite craps session ever where I won $1k on the Don'ts (still one of my biggest single session wins) back in like 2011-12.

After Flamingo and Ballys had $10 mins on everything we settled on Paris roulette near Gustav's. We both won but things are pretty hazy from here on. I definitely knocked a full redbull vodka onto the roulette table and with amazing speed the dealer or a pit sopped the whole spill up from the felt with one towel. I could tell it's happened before. I sure felt like an amateur hour idiot though. We noticed the rest of the trip NO property we played roulette at since the 4Q had drink holders in the table, so it's their fault.

We stumbled back to Cosmo late I think ate something at the Snack place beside the Bellagio sportsbook before calling it a night. Hard to recall. The most J had ever drank in his life (and I had been putting them away all day myself) and nobody puked, so mission = accomplished on the day.

Near $2200 royal at quarters at Cosmo? I'd even bother with stupid vouchers for that! Hope to read you hit it soon! Too bad you weren't on DDB though with those hands. :( And crazy how your friend got his first quad. I get those maybe once or twice a year...

Only saw maybe two machines at each end of the bar? And the bar was packed so you'd have people leaning on you/bumping you constantly. Not even sure why VP machines are there. Not an ideal place to grind some hands.

If I ran Cosmo, no way I put them in. And we know I love my free beer at the bar!

Up early to catch the SEA/MIN game on the TV in our room and couldn't believe the ending. AGAIN, SEA doesn't cover for me -3? and MIN moneyline for J doesn't come through. Both lost.

Breakfast at the Henry then played some dice for the first time of the trip. J was very hesitant to play for his first time and started just doing a passline bet with odds. Next thing you know he's placing the 6/8 and playing the field and loving it. Had some great dealers helping him along and he won 200-250 or so on his first session. Watched the GB/WASH game from the table via the Queue bar TVs.

Extra big bet to make up some of my losses thank goodness came through. Skins moneyline for both J and I lost.

We put a bunch of NCAA BB/NHL/NBA bets down to sweat throughout the evening after the early football was over. Ended up winning 2/10.. continuing my terrible streak.

After the game we walked over to Aria to show J the place. White beard sighting! The biggest asshole bartender in Las Vegas still has his job. Amazing.

Sat down at Gem bar which I didn't know existed, around the corner from the sports book, and decided to try to play some VP golf for the first time!!

$20 each in. At $30 you can cashout and mark a -1 (birdie). Every $10 above $30 is an additional stroke negative. Lose all $20 and bogey (+1). If one person cashes out or loses their $20, the other person can cashout between $1-$29 as par to keep the game moving. The flaw we ended up finding in my rule set was after I started -1 at Gem bar, I played much faster than J everywhere and most holes ended with me +1 losing my whole $20, and J cashed out wherever he was for par. We decided a future modification would need to include some sort of hand for hand rule.

Did a bar crawl with the intention to end at Harrahs main bar (13 holes or so) but we were way too drunk halfway through that we called it a draw.

    Official scoring:
    1 Gem
    W -1 J 0

    2 Bond
    W 0 J 0

3 Mix? Bar with the stage near PHo entrance
    W 1 J 0

    4 Center Bar PHo
    W 2 J 0

    5 Gustavs
    W 3 J 0

    6 Sullys
    W 5 J 0

    7 Ballys center/main bar
    W 6 J 1

Didn't get to Cromwell, Bugsy's, TAG, Catalyst then Harrahs as planned. Next time!

Stumbled back to Cosmo and had to do Secret Pizza. Great slice as always. Might have played a little breakeven craps for a while. J was running of steam early and gambling wasn't going great for him. I was content getting more sleep than normal this trip so we called it an earlyish night.

Nice report, great pics. Love the golf VP concept although I would lose track pretty quickly I am guessing. LOL.

My wife and I on long trips do "slot golf" over the entire strip with a similar concept. I'd prefer VP, but she's not a real VP fan.

Anyway, what we do is however many "spins" it takes you to win back your bet is your score for each "hole". So if we're betting $2.00, your score is how long it takes you to get a spin that wins at least $2.00. You could easily do the same with VP. After experimenting with a variety of different scoring methods this is the one that has stuck, and what friends seem to enjoy the most as well.

Over the years we've accumulated quite a list of "rules" (lol) but if you're looking to change up your scoring that would be my advice. Also, like when you play putt-putt, I'd recommend a maximum stroke per hole. I once took a score of 50 at a very cold machine at cosmo....never really played there since, ha.
