Just booked 4 nights at the Golden Nugget over Memorial Day weekend which will include our 40th wedding anniversary. Other than the Redwood Grill and the Porterhouse Special at the California we are wide open and looking for suggestions.

Have seen almost every show in Vegas (some multiple times) and now just like to play black jack and pai gow, drink a little (or a lot), have some good food that isn't stupid expensive, maybe enjoy a little music (saw Matt Goss at Caesar's in 2015), do some people watching, etc.

We haven't stayed downtown in probably 15 years (stunned she agreed to) and would love suggestions.

    Thanks!!

Give Triple George a try. One of the best steakhouses I've ever been to. It's right next to Pizza Rock across the street Dom the Down Town Grand. It's about a five minute walk from the GN.

Congrats on your 40 year anniversary.

I absolutely love Hugo's Cellar at the Four Queens. They give all the ladies a long stemmed rose.

Mike Omeara mentioned Pizza Rock. We stay at the GN and Pizza Rock is on our list every time.

Best downtown breakfast: eat. ( Carson and 7th, across from the container park)

Hugo's Cellar at the Four Queens is an institution. Still feels like old Vegas, great service, and a little upscale dinning without feeling pretentious like some of the higher end strip restaurants.

If your willing to travel a little bit and want to spend some money to mark the occasion you can not go wrong at Michael's Gourmet Room at South Point. Hands down this is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at
in the entire US. They relocated it South Point but kept a lot of the decor. Wife and I plan on marking our 10th anniversary here. It's a few miles south of Mandalay Bay, but I think its still well worth the trip.

I still like the Golden Steer as a steak house in Vegas (south of downtown). If you are looking to stay downtown and dine, Oscars was a good experience at Plaza and I also like Chart House a lot at GN for seafood.

You'll also want to note that you'll be in town during the annual Punk Rock Bowling and Music Festival. The Golden Nugget is one of the two official hotels of the event(the other being The Plaza). This event is huge, and you'll see mohawks up and down Fremont for 3 days. Aside from a huge outdoor concert for 3 days behind the El Cortez, there are 4 nights of shows at 5 downtown music venues. There are usually also 3 free daytime events right at the Golden Nugget(in the lounge) so you'll have a lot of interesting people watching, even right at the hotel. This will also affect the pool traffic, which I've noticed to get a bit rowdy over this weekend, and they often do bands in the pool area as well.

I've been attending this event for 12 years, and it's grown into something that really does change the landscape of Fremont. and it's a lot of fun even if you're not into the music.
