    Hi

Looking to book our annual Vegas trip and considering staying somewhere a bit different. Cost being one reason as trips from the UK are very expensive at the moment (£300-£400 more than when we booked for the same period last year) and location being another. We spend much of our time on The Strip during the day, but evenings are normally Ellis Island, Gordon Biersch, Firefly etc on and around Paradise. We've no problem walking anywhere and get the 14 day bus pass so can get where ever we need to be on public transport.

Silver Sevens came up in conversation yesterday, looks likey they have a low resort fee (curse the resort fee), cheap eats and drinks and the location seems pretty good. I haven't really stayed "out East" before, with out only off strip staying being Gold Coast and Orleans so I thought I would check in and see how Silver Sevens would compare to say Gold Coast or Excalibur and what everyones thoughts would be or indeed if anyone could suggest an alternative in a similar neighbouhood (Tuscany perhaps?).

We tend to go to Vegas in early October (6th or 13th this year) and stay for 2 weeks.

    Cheers all

    TNU

We stayed there once when it was Terribles. The room was very OK. Think Super-8 or Motel 6, not Holiday Inn. The buffet was very OK too.

In the area the Tuscany looks like it's a bit newer and nicer, but I've never stayed there.

I used to love that property when it was Terrible's. It was nothing special, but I loved the fact that the rooms on the lower floor was an easy walk to the casino. It was also one of my favorite places to hang out when I lived in Las Vegas. I've always had good luck there. It's a locals casino, nothing fancy, but the comps come fast and they have a good selection of video poker and slots. I've been to Silver Sevens to check it out, but I haven't stayed since the changeover, so I'm not sure if anything as far as accommodations have changed. I can say the rooms were comfortable and clean when I stayed there. They also have a decent pool area. I've never cared for the Tuscany, didn't like the vibe. If you don't have an issue walking, you can make the trek to The strip via Flamingo, and could also hoof it to restaurant row with Firefly, etc, as well as Ellis Island and Hard Rock. If you're no frills, it's not a bad choice.

    Have a great time!

Just a thought but Ellis Island bought the motel nextto them so they have rooms and the plan is to renovate them this year.

Lately, I've been staying at Silver Sevens. Used to bed down at Hilton (now Westgate), but resort fees chased me away. Silver Sevens has been a pleasant surprise with the room quality. All rooms have been upgraded and are certainly on par with Orleans and Gold Coast.
The pool area is nothing like the mega spreads on the Strip and for that very reason, I prefer it over the Strip pools. It's peaceful, has a hot tub and palm trees. Like you folks, also like the eastern locale and have no reservations about recomending Silver Sevens.
I usually request a room in the part of the hotel away from the casino.

I don't mind the location either. It's a quick $2 bus ride to the center strip. The walk takes longer than you might think. I've never stayed there, but the casino definitely looked comparable to a Boyd property when I was last there in April.

Just an FYI that the American Casino Guide has a buy 1 night get 1 free room night coupon for Silver Sevens. (A couple 50% off food coupons as well).

I agree that Silver Sevens is certainly an OK place. But , if I could get Goldcoast for the same price , I would stay there.
At SS the walls are thin , also airplane noise. I wouldnt want to stay there for two weeks.
The buffet has improved and I like the cafe but I would not want it more than once in my stay.
There is other dining choices a short walk away.

It's a good point re Gold Coast actually. Whilst not as walkable to e.g. Gordon Biersch, I could just get the bus to the corner of Paradise. Plus, they still run the free shuttle from Gold Coast to Ballys.

aaaand, we've booked. Good old Gold Coast, got a good deal too. We always liked it there when we used to stay so why not stay again eh? Free Shuttle, bus stop right outside, cheap eats, reasonable drinks and handy for Palms and Rio for a night out. Job done.
