    My Trip Report

This will be my first attempt at a trip report. I'm going to attempt it live but no promises. This will be only my second time in New Orleans and I'm really looking forward to it. I have to thank the Longhorns for handing Baylor the loss or this trip wouldn't be possible. As soon as I figured out the Pokes we're going to the Sugar bowl I started looking for rooms online. Prices ranged from 300-750 a night and that just wasn't acceptable. Then I remembered my degenerate gambling should benefit me somehow. A quick call to Harrahs confirmed my thinking. 4 comp nights Dec 31st thru Jan 4th. Airfare was quickly booked after the confirmation of accommodations. All I needed now was tickets to the game. Monday morning I'm on hold with the ticket office at OSU. I should have taken the opportunity to pre request tickets earlier in the year. Damn! Nosebleeds! Oh well at least we will be there.

This trip will be the wife and me. There are several Cowboy fans from here in Woodward Oklahoma that will be attending as well. One of those locals was a lot smarter than myself and did pre request tickets. Fortunately for me he ordered 4 and his kids aren't going so I score section 117 row 30 at field level for face value which was the same as my nosebleeds. Starting off with a win before I leave. Hopefully Harrahs will be as kind. Flight leaves OKC at 8:05 am arriving in NOLA at around 11:30 barring any delays. I have a feeling things will get fuzzy from this point on. I'm pretty fortunate that my wife is pretty much exactly like me. There will be many adult beverages, great food and pretty much free for all.

We aren't much for planning an agenda but there will be a few things that we will definitely try to do.
    1. Meet up with the wife's high school best friend and her husband. They live in the area and are pretty much party animals like ourselves.
    2. Lots of gambling at Harrahs. Mostly 5 and 10 dollar slots.
    3. Oysters at Acme Oyster House
    4. BBQ Shrimp at Dickie Brennan's Bourbon house.
    5. Fireworks on the river.
    6. Red beers at The Old Absinthe House. Love this place.
    7. Watch a lot of Bowl games with some kind of an adult beverage in my hand at all times.
    8. Wandering around the French Quarter and again having multiple adult beverages.

I hope some will find it interesting. I'm definitely a trip report novice. After enjoying all the trip reports from fellow VMBers I thought I would give it a shot. I'll try to post a lot of pictures.

Good luck! NOLA is a blast for the Sugar Bowl (and at all other times)

Hopefully the SEC will get its ass beat down again in the dome. There's nothing quite like college football!

maybe when you come down, bring a lil bit of cool weather...its only been cold a few times recently, christmas is supposed to be in high 70s, low 80s, 11pm right now and its storming 68 degrees, not sure what the new years temp will be....usually its 30-40s wet cold....

and if I can make a suggestion that will save you money and have better results. instead of the $15 a dozen acme oyster we're in the french quarter so we can price gouge everyone, there is a place on st charles and Euterpe, you can ride the street car down from canal or poydras, pass by the historic lee circle that our idiot mayor is destroying and you will find a place called "the blind pelican" everyday, happy hour $2.50 a dozen, sit at the bar with the owner and no limits, sometimes they limit at the tables, its weird

and if you visit the palm room, you may see me drinking at the bar thurs-sat

Thanks for the advice Slimm. I'll put that on my list. Looking at the weather it looks like it's going to be around 60 and a little wet while we are there. I'm figuring my intoxication level will help with not caring too much about the weather. Haha. I'll try to check out the Palm room and buy you a beverage. I'll be the American Indian guy in orange. Go Pokes!!!

I didn't play much at Caesars properties this year. I have to hit 2600 tier credits to hit diamond for the year. Have from about noon to midnight on the 31st to get it done. Shouldn't be much of a problem

I'm an LSU guy and normally big wins help the strength and perception of the conference but if it's either Ole Miss or Bama losing it doesn't hurt my feelings. If it were Georgia, Florida or even Auburn I would be rooting for the SEC.

Wife's best friend that we are meeting down there is a LSU fan as well. Asked if they wanted to go to the game and they said they hate Ole Miss. I said they could cheer for the Pokes but they passed. LOL.

Sounds like a great time, I absolutely love NOLA! Word of advice though, unless your getting a comp, skip Acme for Oysters. Way over rated. Bourbon House is great and the hands down best Charbroiled Oysters (I've eaten them everywhere in NOLA) is Drago’s over at the Hilton Riverside which is nearby the Harrahs Hotel and Casino.

Other great dinning places to check out. Ruby Slipper and Fleur di Lis Cafe for breakfast (Awesome places, with Stanley a close third).
Mona Lisa Restaurant over on the far side of the quarter for some pizza.

Bayou Burger is a great place to watch games, as well as Corner Oyster House (Lots of TV's and good people)

Have fun, wish I was going to be there!
