I am curious to know what might the future of Las Vegas be? Seeing how much the skyline has changed since 25 years ago I wonder how different will Las Vegas be in another 25 years?

I think a lot depends on if the economy continues to improve or not. Here are a few things I thing though that will definitely happen:

#1 - Rejuvenation of the North End of the Strip. Starting with the Genting/Vegas World Project, and the convention center/Riviera site. Hopefully also the former Fontainebleau site gets bought and built out, and, Remember that Wynn has room for 1 or maybe even 2 more towers, and an unfinished condo tower at the Venetian

#2 - Technological Changes in Gaming. We have already seen this starting to happen, but it will be more rapid both on machines and crossing over to table games. This may include the way we pay for gaming with the introduction of some type of smart card or phone app preloaded with funds.

#3 - Legalization of Marijuana ??? Vegas is a party city and this would just hand in hand with that.

Possible #1 - Will there be any water left in Las Vegas? Level of Lake Mead is still dropping at a steady rate....

Water (or lack thereof) will have more to do with the future of Las Vegas that anything else.

    Reno works for me.

You can actually win money there.

Isn't that what it's all about?

I predict that the current craze of catering to the 20-boppers with the velvet rope clubs and such will wane significantly.

Of course it will be replaced by the Latest Big Thing(tm), and I have no clue what exactly it will be.

All joking aside, a return to themed resorts is likely at some point in the near future.

I find it interesting that Aria is ripping down it's Cirque area and expanding it's convention centre space. The money appears to be in conventions. We stayed there because a friend of ours recommended it from a convention he stayed at.

On our first trip to Vegas we went to the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. We got the hell out of Mandalay because there appeared to be a ton of conventions going on and the place was wall to wall with suits with name tags on. Boring.

5 or so years ago we had a big debate on here about the club scene, a lot of the members predicted the big clubs would be a big bust. We see now that there is a ton of $$$ generated by the likes of Marquee, XS, Tryst, etc. They have become part of the identity of the resorts in which they reside. The millennials don't seem to gamble enough to be called "gamblers". I think with the proliferation of local casino's throughout the US, LV will be forced to continually reinvent itself to keep attracting new clientele. I think more unique type attractions will rise and more unique experiences will become paramount such as shows, clubs, restaurants, etc.

Gaming will always be the anchor, but I don't think it will wholly be able to float the ship in 20 years. LV will always thrive I believe short of another economic crisis, but I also believe constant change will be the "theme".

The water issue will have to be dealt with at some point, and if the Asian gambler ever loses interest or gets re-directed we could see an entirely different landscape as well. I'm not sure we ever see the North strip explosion unless the economy shoots thru the roof.

I know one thing, I will be there to watch! cheers!

Won't be a problem after this year. Snow pack is already at 133% and we haven't even got to the bulk of el nino. This will put a huge dent in the drought enough to relax a bit.

North End of the Strip.will be a big deal.

Something needs to start happening DT.

Agreed. Also, with that much money on the line, they would find a way to get water there.

I hope #2 doesn't happen. I like to handle money while in Vegas. Part of the reason is because in everyday life I actually am doing #2. I hardly carry any cash and I pay for everything with credit cards and pay it off at the end of the month. But the absolute best thing to happen (In my opinion) is the introduction of TITO.

Love to see #1 come to fruition.

I've seen the effects of marijuana on my brother and brother-in-law. Both potheads are so fucked up I can't imagine a whole city with potheads.....

I agree. My local casino is Mohegan Sun, and it is one of the biggest casinos in the Northern hemisphere. The gaming rules are superior to those found on the strip. For example, 5x odds in craps. The physical layout of the casino is massive and grand and rivals anything in Las Vegas.
So just purely based on gambling, I wouldn't need to go to Vegas. For me, it is the other "attractions" in Vegas, as a whole, that make it a desirable destination.
The downsides of the Sun are the very limited shopping and dining options, the lack of geographic diversity in the clientele, with a high proportion of grumpy old East Coast gamblers who are no fun to be around.
However, if the gaming rules continue to erode on the Strip, then Vegas might become a place where I go to have fun and gamble a little, but the Sun is where I will place my heavy action.

Yeah, LV is about the vibe for me and like you said the vibe of others. If you are in a "local" casino the gambler seems to be on a different mental level most of the time. It just doesn't feel the same as hanging with and talking to gamblers in LV. Its also amazing to be in walking distance of the best shopping, best dining and best nightclub experiences you can find anywhere.

The first time I went to LV I had never gambled a dollar in a casino, I had to watch a video to learn video poker. I was hooked on the experience and I have grown to enjoy gaming a bit, but its def not the reason I continue to visit.

I cannot wait for SuperBowl weekend when everything is on overdrive!

I also agree that rejuvenating the north strip is key to both the long term health and improvement in gaming conditions. I go for a break from reality and throw some gambling in. If all I need is a quick gambling fix, like a lot of America, I can drive less than 30 minutes.

I will also be in for super bowl to "escape reality". Sounds like a bunch of the regulars from the board will be in and I hope to run into some of you and party/ gamble it up
