Steak and Shake is famous for their crappy service. Its extra bad if you order a couple of shakes.

I didn't see an open date for In n Out. I'll be there July 4. Hopefully it will be open. As for Virgil's, if the NYC location is any indication, you can skip it.

I would replace "can" with "really should".

Lol I'm the opposite, lifelong Chicagoan recently moved to Cali. Agreed that steak n shake is nothing special, but you need to check out meatheads. Used to just be a few, but a lot more have been popping up in and around Chicago over the last 5 or so years.

Much better than five guys and smashburger, I would say in the same league as in n out, though they are pretty different places, in n out is all about simplicity, while meatheads has lots of toppings and ways to customize. Plus the sauce for their cheese fries is amazing.

Native-born Californian here, always thought Cali was in Colombia. ;)

I'm an In n Out 'meh' person, but I am happy to see Cantor's and even Ramsay's. I enjoyed strolling through the Linq and it will be nice to have some reasonable options, especially on my solo trips.

The article was vague, but it sounded like mid 2016 perhaps?

Thanks for being good natured about this. As a native that term grates like "Frisco."

And so as to not be accused of going on walkabout, here's my thought on In-N-Out: If curious or a fan, go. If not, don't go. Problem solved!

I like the 1000 Island spread and the onions.........but the problem with all fast food burgers is I like my burgers rare or at least medium rare. Obviously, all fast food burgers are well done and too small to really be cooked anything close to rare. So it's better than most fast food places but nothing too exciting to me.

You are SO right about Meatheads. Just tried them recently and the food and service is the best around.

I may becoming addicted as I think I have been back three times already!

Add me to the list of those who won't be in the queue. Great news for the fans though.

I'd suggest you give it another shot, tring. I'm surrounded by In-n-Outs where I live, and I've never had one that could be described as a hockey puck. (I'm not a fanboy defending them, either. I'm not even that big of a fan of their food.) A few years ago I tried the burger Animal Style and it reinvigorated my enjoyment of their burgers.

For those who are commenting about the fries, the secret to In-n-Out fries is to eat them as quickly as possible. As soon as they cool off they get hard and become almost inedible, imo. When hot, they can be quite good, but their window of opportunity closes extremely rapidly.

We got In-n-Out in Austin a couple years ago, and once the crazy lines died down a bit we gave it a try. I was meh. Better than McDonald's, certainly. I didn't care for the fries at all. I likely won't go if they open one in the Linq, but I'll be all over Canter's!!

My favorite chain burger is Whataburger. During Christmas break we had burgers at (non-chain) Dirty Martin's on The Drag in Austin and now that was a good greasy burger!!!

We have tried In-and-out and it was ok.
Try Walburgers if there is one near by...fairly decent.

Still waiting for the Vegas location(s) to open. Last update on their facebook page was in Sept saying they were opening in Late 2015. Still not open. They had the location in early 2015. Wonder what's taking so long?
