Video Poker Vp play methods

I know there has been a lot of topics on VP Strategy, but I haven't found one on how someone plays.
In Oct on my last trip, I played the following:
At Bellagio, it was DDB STP, and I started on one line and everytime I was down 250 credits I would add a line because if I made a quad, it was enough to recover that loss and allow me to move down a line.
At Aria. It was strictly BPD DSTP, but instead of 250 credits to add a line it was 400 because all quads are 400.
It worked really well for me and I never ran out of money for the day or lines to add.

 

There are a couple of local casinos that I like, specifically for VP. At these casinos, there are plenty of machines to choose from, for the types and denominations, I like. At these casinos, I like to bounce around amongst them until I find the one that seems to be improving hands at that moment (pairs improving to trips, hitting 4-flushes/straights on the draw, frequent pairs being dealt). Once I found the machine that appears to be doing this, I hunker down until I feel it has turned cold. I know these occurrences have no bearing on if a machine will be a winner, but it's a superstition that works for me. Yes, I have lost my day's bankroll on a couple or few occassions, but I have made monster scores more often than I go bust. For now, my strategy is to push my luck...lol

 

I have a habit of upping lines on STP if a song I like starts playing in the casino. Doesn't always work out, but I feel like I do a bit better than average when those songs are playing.

 

I know I've read where players like to move up as they win but I although I do like going for big hits, some reason I lock wins in instead of really pressing with "house money". I really wish I could get that way of thinking out of my head though.

 

One of my bad habits is moving up higher when I am losing...true for slots and VP.

Yesterday, I made a decision to try my luck on $25 DDB. Up until this point, I've never played more than 5 deals at this denom, in one sitting. After playing $10 DDB for a bit, 5-play $1 UX DDB, single play $1 STP DDB, and 10-play 25cent STP DDB, I decided I would risk my bankroll for this session on $25 DDB. I was in for $3000 before things started to turn around. Ended up getting trip Kings and managed to improve to quads. A few hands later, I held a single King and miraculously, that also ended up as quads on the draw. This jump into the deep-end was successful, but I would be foolish to play at this denom regularly...you can experience $2000-$3000 swings in a matter of a few minutes. It was a fun experiment and the bartender had a blast rooting me on!

 

Everyone plays differently; although their is a common belief that max lines/max bet, coupled with "optimal strategy" is the best way...
But in the end, it's your entertainment dollar...if you wanna just randomly push buttons on a machine wherever you feel "lucky", then who are we to tell you no...I've seen quite a few people win big that way.

 

Damn, $3000 to win $12,500..I'd do that every day and twice on sunday!

 

When you say $25 on ddb. Are you talking $5 ddb, so $25 per hand?

Are you in the states? I ask because you would be getting a W2-G every 3 of a kind. Seems like you would constantly be stopping for handpays and paperwork?

 

"Stopping for handpays and paperwork". I say that as if it would be a bad thing to be getting constant handpays. Didn't mean it like that, seems like most gamblers prefer not to get a pile of W2-G's, so just curious as to your thoughts on it. THanks. Didn't mean it as a criticism, hope it didn't come across that way.

 

Actually he still needs a four of a kind or better still to get a handpay. A quad happens about every 420 hands on average, so a fast player might expect to get one every 30 min. on average. A medium speed player, closer to an hour.

A full house at 45 credits x $25 a credit is $1125 < $1200.

 

You need quads to get a handpay on this $25 DDB. Even a full house is just shy of a w2g, at $1125. These two quads did happen to hit within a few minutes of each other though. I do not and would not play $25 regularly with my bankroll. I have been on a massive VP hot streak, so decided to take a shot one night...it paid off. My current game and denomination of choice is $5 or $10 single line DDB or SDDB.

At my local, handpays are for anything over $300, always waiting...

 

I think my heart rate just went up as I read this, here is a recent win at Bally's in AC, so you can understand why. My level of play is a bit less. Congratulations!

 

I went to a couple locals last night and ran into VP tilt.

First, I went to my local Harrah's to meet up with Aaron5. I dumped $900 through 5-play $1 STP DDB. I can probably count the number of times I got a multiplier on one hand. I then moved over to a bank of $5 DDB progressives ($32,xxx) with shitty 8/5 pay tables. There are 7 or 8 machines at this bank and I played all of them...lost another $1500. Only the last machine gave me a lot of play, but it ultimately beat me. I then went over to the $25 DDB with shitty 8/5 pay table. Dumped $2000 between two machines with quickness. As you can tell by the amount I played at each denomination, I like to bounce around...lol.

I contemplated going to the car to get more cash, but ultimately decided to move on, to where I have been having good luck with VP. I bee-lined it to Pala, which is on route back home and about 15 minutes from the Harrah's. Once at Pala, I fed my lucky multi-denom/multi-game VP machine in HL, $500. In tilt mode, I wanted to hit the $25 denom, but reigned in the tilt just a bit and settled on $10 SDDB. Right away I was hitting at least jacks or better. Within 5 minutes, I got my prayer hit...



This got back my loss from Harrah's and made me a slight winner for the night.

This is a typical VP roller coaster experience for me, when I get into chase mode...at least locally...Vegas, not so much...lol.

 

Nice comeback! Almost feels as good as a bigger win!
