Rock star Scott Weiland was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota ... TMZ has learned.
Weiland was on tour with his band Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts ... they were supposed to play the Medina Ballroom tonight, but the show was cancelled.
A source connected to the band tells us Scott was found Thursday night on the bus around 9 PM -- presumably, shortly before the band was to go on.
The former lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver famously battled substance abuse for years. It's unclear right now what caused his death.
    Scott was 48.

This guys ride was probably a blast, although when the fun stops with drugs I'm sure it gets real hard at everything he had access to. I see a Hunter S. Thompson quote on someone's signature here that probably sums it up best but cant quite remember what it is.

My daughter just texted me to let me know he died. I had to text back and ask what team he played for! She replied back STP... I then assumed he must be a nascar driver.

I'm just wondering ?....do we have Keith Richards, to thank for
setting the "Rock Star" life ?
Kids growing up ( wanting to be a rock star ) + thinking heroin is what rock stars do ?
Too many think, "drugs, is what I should be doing......if I'm to be a famous rock star."
    * How about ?......go to the gym......eat + live well ?

I saw him play at The Pearl a couple of years ago. On a positive note he sang great and had an amazing stage presence, he had this way of strutting around the stage that was amazing. Unfortunately he was a mess. The show started way late, he started singing the wrong song. At one point he was climbing on the speakers off to the side of the stage and really wondered if they would topple over.

Anyway, I feel bad for his wife and other loved ones. It sucks.

I have no idea who he was, but STP was my additive of choice in my old cars. Yes, now in a Vegas group, it is a VP game.

I am a massive Stone Temple Pilots fan, so Scott Weiland's death hit me pretty hard. I'm glad I had the chance to see him perform with STP before he was fired by them two years ago. They were pretty classy about it, but it was really clear that they dumped him due to the damage the drugs were doing to him and the people around him. They just couldn't count on him anymore.

If you haven't heard him sing before, here's a good video to check out. It's Scott Weiland singing with The Doors on VH1 Storytellers:

He said in an interview they told him if he wanted to go to rehab he had to pay the band to make up for the gigs they could have played while in there.. If true, that doesn't sound too classy to me. Classy would actually be if they wanted him to get help

Weiland had been in and out of rehab for twenty years by the time the band finally fired him. They had canceled numerous tours due to his drug problems which severely impacted the other band members' earnings. They weren't able to tour to support their "Tiny Music" or "No. 4" albums.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the "Core" album in 2012, the band had planned to perform the album in its entirety on tour, but Weiland's drug problem had damaged his voice so much that he could no longer perform many of the songs. Then, his request to go back into rehab yet again was the final straw for the other members of the band.

Such a waste of a wonderful talent. I don't blame his bandmates at all.

His ex-wife and mother of his children penned a very poignant, to the point letter in Rolling Stone. It really speaks to the damage drug addiction does not just to the addict but to entire families, and saddest of all, to children.

    Read it here
