Restaurant delivery to hotel

Do most people meet a delivery person in the lobby or do delivery people come to rooms?

When staying in a large hotel I would feel obligated to tip an additional amount for delivery to my room due to the long walk.

 

Speaking for myself, I always have it delivered to the room.

I don't know what most people do.

 

If I still had enough energy to go to the lobby, I would probably just go somewhere to eat.

But, either way, I would probably tip decent due to the time and effort to get to me - assuming the mega hotels in Vegas. Red Roof would be a different answer. If a single female, I would probably do the lobby.

 

We usually stay at Treasure Island. As of our last trip in April, they were checking room keys at the elevators. It used to be just at night, but was all the time this trip. Depending on the hotel, you may not have a choice in the matter.

 

When I delivered pizzas for Domino's years ago, security let us in secure areas if we were carrying pizza and wearing the uniform. You could call down to let security know you're expecting a pizza. Some hotels frown to food deliveries from outside. Other hotels allow it and I've seen to go menus scattered under doors.

 

I've only gotten delivery to non Vegas hotels. If it's a full service hotel I've met them in the lobby. But for motel style direct to the room.

 

Yes - check ahead of time to be sure. I've had food delivered to hotels on the curb or in the parking lot if necessary.

I've never done it in Las Vegas, but in other cities we had it delivered directly to the room.

You think about that long walk, the distance they have to go and the extra time it takes but I would think that if given a choice they would probably prefer to deliver it to the room every time: for every person that is like "They said the guy should be here in 5-10 minutes from now, so I am going to go down to the lobby now to meet him" you are going to probably have five that are like "He's here, just called from the lobby. I am going to take a quick pit stop in the bathroom then put my shoes on and go down and meet him" or they are relatively ready to go, get the call and then when heading across the casino see their favorite slot machine is open so they have to do at least one or two pulls, or whatever, some other stupid reason that has the driver waiting around for 15 minutes longer than he needed to.

 

Which hotels let people put menus under the doors? I don't recall seeing such a thing in Las Vegas hotels. I also do not recall seeing any restaurant delivery people in hotel room hallways.

In 2011 they were shoving pizza menus under the doors to the rooms at the Rio.

That makes you really feel secure, hearing the Swoosh under your door at night.

My friends and I ordered some doughnuts from O Face while staying at Aria over the summer. We just met them near the valet.

 

I get a Pizza place menu everyday at the flamingo

 

They plastered the Luxor pyramid with them last summer. Security is doing a great job checking keys.

 

I have received a few ads slipped under the door to my room a couple of times, but not too often.

As for doing it, I doubt any of the hotels would actually let somebody go up to the hotel rooms and slip flyers under the doors - there is no upside to that for them and it would be in conflict with the best interests of their own restaurants or businesses who are leasing restaurant space from them. Instead it is most likely that when a driver delivers food up to the room they slip flyers under doors on their way back to the elevator.
