We are going to vegas in early March and thinking of not renting a car this trip. I've read some reports of people taking the bus straight downtown. What route do we need? Thank you.

The WAX is by far the preferred bus to take if going DT. But, it only runs about once an hour. If you just miss it, you can think about taking the 109 or the 108 north bound (not south bound). Both go to the Bonneville Transit center, about four blocks south of Fremont. You can walk to Fremont straight north and come out at the a Nugget or similar if you have average mobility and it is daylight. Could be a little sketchy after dark. The 109 and 108 are more of a milk run--more stops--and takes 10-15 minutes longer in our experience.

We always take the WAX, but are arriving at just the wrong time in a week, and our plan is to take the 109 if we miss the WAX. But we are arriving in the mid-afternoon, and are in no hurry. Also we need to renew our senior discount cards and the Bonneville center is the only place to do it. So, two birds. . . .

All RTC busses are picked up on the Zero Level at the airport. At the baggage carrousels, look for the escalators near the middle of the baggage area going up, but take the stairs down--or just ask anyone in a uniform. At the Zero Level, you will emerge outside, bear to the right and you will see benches, bus schedules, etc. All are residential routes, so two dollars--exact change--in the fare box and relax. If you have a Medicare card, just show it to the driver, and put one dollar in the machine. WAX will drop you at Fremont, the 109/108 at Bonneville.

With a little experience, we have gotten very proficient and relaxed in taking the RTC all over town--partly because we just hated renting cars for any number of reasons. But that is just us.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for this info! I am kind of tired of renting a car, and really don't want the expense of a taxi from the airport and then reverse. We usually take the Deuce form DT to the strip anyway! Thanks again!

Yep, this. Just head down to level 0, and the bus stop is to the right at the end. I've taken the WAX a few times with no problems. $2, and you're done. And, I take it back to the airport for my 7:30am flight. Just have to fight off the pan handlers sometimes.

To catch the WAX bus at McCarran airport: Walk all the way through baggage claim to the far side and take the escalator down a level to level 0. (Use the bathroom at the bottom of the escalator for future comfort.) Go out the door and walk in the direction of about 2:00...diagonally to the right. You will notice it is all city bus and hotel transportation stalls. The WAX bus is the last spot to the right. You can just pay the driver $2 when you get on, no pre-purchase of a ticket needed. The bus is express and stops about 1 block from Fremont Street. From there just wheel your bag to the hotel. On the way home, the bus will pick you up next to Binions at Fremont Street. It's all very easy.

Thanks! Now, can we buy a 3 day pass for the Deuce and regular bus and use it for our return back to the airport? I think that pass is $20 per person?

There is also a 15 day pass for $34 ($17 for over 60 or disabled). According to Dewey (the bus guru) it is all access. If you want to learn more about buses in Vegas, just search for Dewey.

I guess you must be one of those $5 tippers.... since you are gambling so much money anyway....why not tip your cocktail waitress $5 each time, it's only money...

The Wax is convenient, always on time, faster than a shuttle, you don't tip and the money you save just bought you a great Prime Rib Dinner with salad bar and Cherries Jubilee at the Hotel California.

Stops at 4th and Carson, between The D and the Walgreens.
