dissapointed in Planet Hollywood and not even there yet

So making plans for Vegas for 5 nights I went on Hotwire and looked for a place to go. I was going to do a cruise or Mexico. So thinking about it why go there in a jacket? Vegas sounds like a fun getaway so Planet Hollywood looks to be the place. Not on the high side and not on the cheap side either. Comparative anyway. Now every other add on Facebook comes from PH. I could deal with that until I started reading the comments. I am not a review stickler so to say but I do like to get the little details to watch for. The biggest problem that I have read is their customer service is at the bottom. Everyone on there has a complaint and explains that they tried to get it solved and nothing happened. PH famous reply is "sorry send us an email and tell us what happened". Is this a joke? Did they not already say they talked to someone? The way the hotel handles an issue or the explanation they give of why the problem existed means everything to me. I know you can't fix everyone but you can give a reason to the policy or fix. I do realize there are a couple thousand rooms and most people are happy.

Now I am at the question of even staying at PH. I know this sounds like no big deal but PH does not have a coffee pot in their rooms. I know you asking yourselves "REALLY?" whats wrong with this guy? It's just I travel different I guess. If they had a food pacage I would buy it. I hate pulling my wallet out every step I take. It takes away from the VACATION aspect of it. I am thinking I am going to this premier hotel in Las Vegas and come to find out The Super 8 down the street out does it with amenities. Here is what they have.

I have until the Dec.4th to change hotels. Right now I don't even want to gamble there. I can walk through the front doors of anywhere and stay all day with out paying the hotel a dime.

The question is Can you help explain why PH is worth even going to?

 

I'm probably in the minority here, but of the half dozen CET properties I've stayed at in Vegas, PH is easily my least favorite. And I've stayed there twice, so it wasn't just one bad trip.

I haven't had issues with the service, I just don't care for the base rooms or the casino. FWIW, I'm a 32 year old guy, drinking and gambling are my main Vegas activities, with some decent dining and a show here and there.

I will say I loved Strip House, though...

 

Resort Vista suite has a Coffee machine. ..I prefer Vdara myself dollar for dollar? Best place on the strip
Just avoid the bottom feeder "Deluxe suite"..Vdara suite is a bargain

 

Wow, unless your a heavy coffee drinker, a coffee machine is the least of your concern. A step out on the casino floor and a dollar tip will get you a cup of joe easily at any joint.
Yeah there is the inconvenience factor of strolling down to the casino. Planet Hollywood is definitely a different demographic. If your even considering staying at the Super 8 down the street
you probably don't fit into that demographic. The location and convenience of attached mall are a plus. Not to mention they cater heavy to the 20 something to early 30 something crowd party crowd
who can't afford to stay at the slightly higher end properties. I have stayed in comp'd rooms there and they are nice enough, but if I had to pay their rack rate, I'd probably stay elsewhere.

CET will get also get you with resort fees that offer little value except internet access. Planet Hollywood is a great resort for staying midstrip but the rooms are nothing great (unless your in a resort vista or higher).
My advise is shift a block north to Ballys, unless you are hoping for a great view of the fountains. The rooms have coffee makers, access to monorail, great location, and if you want a more younger vibe you can easily get over to Linq or Planet Hollywood casino.

 

It's not really that I am that much of a heave coffee drinker as I am a watch the news in my underwear with it. The thought of my girl getting dressed and going out to get it may gat on her nerves.

The main reason I am going is because I have been on nights for 63 nights 13 to 15hr a night. I get vacation now. Sitting in my room with a fresh pot of coffee does that vacation part for me lol.

I looked at the higher priced hotels and I am finding out they don't have them either. I did find there is a Dollar general a couple of blocks away. $10 and I would be set. I also asked them if there was a mini fridge in the room. They said "no". I could have one for $25 a night. Is this for real? I am going to be there for 5 nights. Walmart is a block away. I can go buy one for $60 and throw it away on their front porch as I leave.

I will call Bally's today and ask them what they have it does not say they have it on line. If not I am thinking of upgrading just for principle of how I see the replies from their customer service. The Vdara does seem nice. It is a choice at this point. Super 8 is out of the question. I plan on staying in my room all night with the same person.

You will need a jacket.....certainly, outside at night.

I used to stay at PH a lot - and Aladdin before that. It's a decent place if you don't mind noise. Now I'm older (!) I prefer the quieter ambiance of Wynn. Neither have coffee machines. Can't you just bring your own or at a travel kettle?

 

Get a Jubilee room at Bally's. TIp a $20 a check in and a fridge will be yours for the stay. I would only stat at PH if I knew I specifically wanted that experience, its a bit unique. I have stayed at all CET props other than Harrah's and Bally's is my overall favorite.

 

You are trying to compare a regular hotel room to Vegas casino hotel rooms. Huge difference. Casino resorts don't want you in your room, drinking coffee, thus no machine (although many of them do have the kuerig type) and they certainly don't want you in your room drinking adult beverages, thus, no empty fridge. You can always request one for medicinal purposes and they will bring you one for free. They want you in the casino getting free drinks while you are gambling. That's the bottom line. Many people bring or buy a cheap coffee pot for their room. Use a sink or buy a cheap styrofoam cooler for cocktails.

I like PH, but I won't stay there again. I enjoy the party atmosphere for the most part. But it was way too loud for me at times. At 6 am when I am down getting coffee and playing, I simply can't listen to it that loud. I like Ballys for the location, Paris for playing but Cosmo tops everyone for my vote. You should friend them on FB, they are offering some deals.

Btw, make your reservations directly with the casino, not a third party.

Maybe a cruise or an all inclusive in Mexico would be more suitable.

 

Maybe If your are looking to relax with coffee and a fridge in your room without a jacket Mexico maybe your best bet for your vacation!

Just a thought.

 

This was my first initial thought. Vegas isn't an all inclusive beach resort in a third world country. I think you are going to be disappointed no matter where you stay. I am going back to the Aria. No coffee and no fridge.

On our first trip last year I was surprised a bit by the cost of things but if you do a little work you can do bring your expenses down.
Bring or buy a cheap cooler at Walgreens. It's right there at PH. Don't buy from stores in the resorts. Get your stuff from the drug stores.
I have loaded up on a number of Groupons over the past few months for things we planned on doing anyways.
Play MyVegas and earn a few 2-1 Buffets. A little harder because you aren't staying at MGM but doable.
There are all day buffet options at CET Properties.
Search for coupon sites there are a dozen of them with decent free coupons for lots of different things.
Get a CET Loyalty Card and get an MLife card for little discounts if you do buy from the resorts.

There are a million things you can do to save money.

 

$10 for the machine. Another $10 for the coffee grinds and $5 for the filters. Plus the hassle of wasting vacation time shopping for things that are either in the room or can be had with a quick call downstairs.

Room service has coffee. They mini bar has several assorted bevs and snack items for sale.

Most higher-end hotels cater to people that want convenience... like coffee brewed for them or a barista-made coffee. Most strip hotels don't offer coffee pots in the room.

Head over the trip advisor Vegas forum. They have a ton of people over there that would lament with you. They also pass around coffee makers quite often.

 

I've stayed at PH twice and enjoyed my stay. I'm super low maintenance and have rarely encountered problems over my nearly 20 stays in Vegas.

I'd say if you don't like the amenities offered at PH, go stay somewhere else that offers what is attractive to you. There are dozens and dozens of other options, surely you can find one that fits your needs.

 

Black Friday & Cyber Monday will feature some great rates at many of the Las Vegas Strip properties. Don't book thru Hotwire or any 3rd party travel sites. Book directly with the hotel. Cancel your current stay at PH and rebook elsewhere.

 

Yeah, it really sounds as if Vegas may be the wrong choice for the OP.

Vegas places do not do all inclusive. They do not want you hanging about in the room in your underwear. The rooms are cheap for what you get because they expect to get their money other places.

As for going through facebook complaints, most places are going to have a lot of complaints on facebook (who goes to a hotel's FB page to say good job?). And a hotel will NEVER try to resolve an issue on a public forum. First, they need to verify the details and that the complaint is authentic. Once they do that they can figure out what their own staff has said, and what, if anything, needs to be done.

Also, as Joe mentioned, Vegas is NOT hot in December. It is middling warm depending on the breeze when the sun is out and cold at night. And it gets dark fast.

 

Order a pot of coffee from room service. You can even order it in advance to be delivered at a certain time.

I've stayed at PH several times (even when it was the Aladdin). The rooms are fine, casino is fine, spa is surprisingly good. I've had great customer service there and a total lack of customer service there. Keep in mind that most people will take the time to review if they're upset/pissed off/feeling shorted, than if they had the time of their lives.

PH is clean, in a good location, has a fun/DB/party vibe. You're not chained to the hotel 24/7. Go, have fun, order coffee, stop obsessing.

 

The Monte Carlo has coffee pots in the rooms.. and might even be a little cheaper per night that PH.

 

Stay at PH in vegas because it easily has the best location for CET properties (along with Paris), I get comps there pretty much anytime I want and I'm not a high level player by any stretch (Platinum), the casino is quite lively and frankly, most CET properties in vegas don't offer coffee (they do in AC rooms however). Also, I got late checkout with no added fees the last time I stayed last month (I have a TR up here somewhere about it). Also, while the coffee thing also irks me, once you're gambling it's free...this should solve the issue, unless you go to Vegas not to gamble and in that case I'm not sure what to say.

If your paying for the room, however, I get the angst but the reality is that unless you want to Stay at Cosmo, Aria or one of the next tiers above where you'll probably pay more, PH isn't that bad IMO at least. Now if I could only win there haha

 

just take a suite and have your butler make it for you ,problem solved
you know it can snow in december in vegas

if you biggest problem is getting coffe when they give it away on the casino floor for free you will be fine otherwise vegas isnt for you.
