What's it like at Suncoast?

I see the WAX goes there and it is a Bconnected property.

How is the gambling?

Don't intend to stay there as we are Downtown folk.

Just interested in a 1/2 excursion.

Opinions/ Advice?

 

Suncoast is worth a trip on the WAX from downtown. It's about a 25 minute bus ride. The WAX will pick you up downtown at 4th @ Carson, and drops you off right in the Suncoast parking lot.

You will find 10x odds on craps, good video poker pay tables, low limit blackjack, and often there are some good promotions.
They have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap, which I enjoy drinking while playing VP at their bars.

There is also a nice movie theatre there if you need a break from gambling.

I'm a downtown person too. I have a trip coming up starting on 11/25. I will be staying downtown, but I'll take the WAX to Suncoast on 11/27 to take advantage of 7x points on video poker.

 

Suncoast or Southcoast ?

 

Since she referred to the WAX going there, I assume she meant Suncoast.

It's alright, but nothing super special. Pay tables aren't good on them, but I like that they have Ultimate X for pennies! Bartops used to be better, but some places have 8/5 Bonus. Can't speak for the slots. I personally like Gold Coast or Orleans vs. Suncoast.

 

i have rooms for my upcoming trip at harrahs and suncoast..........i am letting a friend use harrahs for two nights and i will use the last one.

however i will be at suncoast for two nights...............i hear it is nice....i will be spending the majority of the time at Red Rock......

how is the workout room and restaurants at suncoast???? first time staying there i played a little and they gave me a three night comp room plus golf

 

I thought Suncoast was snoozy. We did have some nice cheap bites at the deli but other than that I wasn't motivated to ever go back.

I like the Suncoast a lot, especially because of the hotel rooms. I would stay there more often, provided I have a car, if I didn't go to Vegas with my kids (instead we have been going to the Orleans because of the kids' club or a timeshare resort).

Rooms are big, not fancy, but perfectly comfortable. The Boyds are upfront about their rooms and have nothing to be ashamed of. I used the gym there about 4 years ago and it was fine but nothing special. I believe I was its only user; judging from the people in the casino, I suspect there is not a lot of overlap between the fitness and Suncoast demographics. It's also not a huge hotel so it is easy to get to your room. However the parking garage is a bit of a walk.

When I stayed there, I was solo and ate only at the deli ("Bagel Corner") which makes very good sandwiches and I recall the cheesecake being especially delicious and a $2.50 slice was enough for a family. On other visits, I've eaten at the buffet which is so-so. Probably fine for breakfast or cold lunch, I'd avoid dinner there. Here is a review.

The pool seems to be about a standard hotel size (i.e. much smaller than the standard Vegas size).

As far as visiting for a day, if you have ever been to the South Point, it looks almost exactly the same. They both were built by Michael Gaughan when he ran coast casinos and you might think he used the same blueprints. Fine for gambling, or maybe to catch a movie, or if you want a break from being nickled and dimed at the strip or downtown. Not much in the neighborhood except the golf courses and Tivoli Village, which I once went to for its farmers market which was a complete joke. Most of the clientele seem to be local retirees. I'll be one of them someday.

 

Great hotel, good casino, friendly staff. Love the clientele. Because the have a huge indoor arena, they host many horse-related events such as rodeos. Because of that you'll see a lot of good solid hard working American folks. We stay there whenever we visit.

 

I believe BigDog34 is referencing South Point, not Suncoast. South Point has the equestrian arena.

 

My wife and I were just staying at Main Street Station a couple weeks ago, and drove out to the SunCoast for their dinner buffet. We have stayed there a couple times (nice rooms), and our dinner buffet this night was quite good, with many selections available.

The downside for us was seeing so many video poker machines with 7/5 Bonus Poker. When we used to frequent the SunCoast to play video poker there, the "Bonus Poker" was always 8/5 (a 99.17% game), and now everything we saw was short-pay.

 

Unlike Boyd's downtown casinos, the blackjack game allows doubling after splits.

I had the very best prime rib in their steakhouse that I have ever had. And I have eaten a LOT of prime rib! I also know that even the same grade of prime rib will come in differently, but we got lucky that night, because that cut was like buddah!

 

Damn, you guys getting this mixed up with Southpoint must have a hard time...it hasn't been Southcoast for almost 10 years...

FWIW. I stayed at the Suncoast and South point in the past 2 years. Vp is better at Southpoint. Craps (odds) are better at Suncoast. Food choices are better/more plentiful at South point and their sportsbook is larger! Both have a 16 room theater. South point has a really nice
'old Skool" Motown session on Tuesdays. Poker room at Southpoint is probably twice the size of Suncoast's poker room. Suncoast rooms are more"modern" looking than Southpoint's with much nicer views out side too. Lastly....Southpoint is less than 10 mins from the Airport. Suncoast is more than 30 mins away

 

suncoast is probably worth a visit at least once. I visited the place one time to get casino chips. It was a nice hotel and casino but I'm not sure if I would go back again. Not much to do in the area, no other casinos that are that close except for the Rampart. There are a number of golf courses in the area though.

 

We always liked Suncoast. We are booked at MSS but we double booked one night at SC. It will be a no-play day at MSS. We're taking the WAX in the morning, the next morning taking it back to MSS.
Hot dogs from the sportsbook in the morning and Italian dining at Salvatore's that night. Football all day long at the bar. They have 10 or 12 monitors all capable of different feeds at the bars.

 

I agree.Talking about VP, payables at Sun Coast are not as good as Gold Coast or Orleans.
I don't see a reason to go out of the way to visit Sun Coast for a second time.

 

I really like Suncoast. Stayed there last summer and will be going back for two nights on dec 27th.
I must say: we do not play video poker or much slots, we play pai gow poker.
The dealers are very friendly, front desk people are nice, pit bosses are friendly. I just really like the place!

 

I've stayed at all seven Boyd/Coast Vegas properties many times, and without a doubt, the rooms at Suncoast are the nicest. Not that I spend any time in the room, but they're definitely nice. Here are a few tidbits from having stayed there at least 18 times:

- I don't drive in Vegas, but have never had a problem using the WAX or their airport shuttle.
- The Chinese food in the cafe is as good as I've gotten anywhere.
- Interestingly, the minimum bet at Pai Gow, at least when I've been there, is only $5.
- Suncoast is the only casino that's seems to be a dead spot for my cell phone (T-Mobile)

I just received my Sapphire anniversary free three night offer; and as usual, I'll probably use it at Suncoast.

 

Is there such a place as Southcoast?

 

Used to be. That's what "South Point" was called in 2005-06 until Michael Gaughan sold his interest in Boyd casinos for that property's ownership.
