Help Please! First timer in Vegas

Hi all,

I live in the UK and recently had a good run in sports betting and so will be going to Las Vegas in December but I'm not sure about a couple of things.

Firstly, I will have a bankroll of $40,000 (all for sportsbook, not a fan of table games). Would I need to have it in cash or can I pay for my bets using a credit/debit card? If it has to be in cash, am I able to withdraw money from a US bank (apparently there are no HSBC branches in LV)? Also, how does an account with the sportsbook work and can I create an account before I visit?

Secondly, before I make my picks, I do alot of research. Am I allowed to use my laptop in the sportsbook to do this or is this not allowed?

Finally, does anyone have a link to an in-depth, up to date guide to sportsbooks and general guide to the strip?

I have so many questions but would much appreciate if these could be answered... So excited!!

You can't play/make bets with credit or debit cards. You will need to make your bets with cash.

You could use your debit card to withdraw some money (depends on your bank's limits) daily from the ATM, but will be charged a transaction fees and most likely a currency conversion fee.

Your best bet may be contacting the casino about wiring the funds to them, then withdrawing money from the cage when you are ready to place bets.

As far as I know, you just walk up and make you bet. No account is needed, but signing up for the casino's players card and showing it to the sports book when you place your bets could help you earn some small comps from play at the sports book.

 

Thanks mate for the response. I appreciate the advice. I've never been Vegas and feel quite daunting at the prospect of carrying around $40k with me. Might try the wiring to the casino route.

 

Yes, you can also apply for "casino credit". You can find details on most hotel/casino's websites (or do a google search).

 

Cantor does accounts for their mobile betting. Not sure the limits though. Cantor has several locations on the strip, most notably the Venetian, Cosmo, and Trop.

Once you have an account setup, you can bet via mobile or their crappy terminals in the book.

Otherwise you can do it the old fashioned way and just walk the bet and money up to the counter.

Yeah I have the paperwork ready, just worried about how to bring the cash in.

 

I'm quite confused here and far be it for me to tell another person how to spend their cash, but wouldn't you be better betting on sports from the UK and any winnings are tax free?

 

Yes not to mention that online bookies in Europe will have better odds than any sports book in Vegas.

Making my first trip to Vegas and looking to bet big. On most of my sports betting account have been limited online so can only bet small amounts now.

I've never travelled with huge amounts of cash/bankroll so thought I'd ask here since I've seen a few posts of guys travelling to Vegas with a decent br.

It is not too hard. As was mentioned before you can get a line if credit at the Casino. Or send your cash out before you leave.

Yes, you can just go to the Hotels web site and submit the info. Just give them a few weeks to process and you should be good

Sorry. Bad information. Not sure where you got that. After all, when you cash in a winning ticket, they usually do not ask your citizenship, right?

Only CERTAIN winnings are subject to the withholding.

Form W-2G is used to report income and withholdings related to gambling. Generally, you will receive a Form W-2G if you receive:
$600 or more in gambling winnings and the payout is at least 300 times the amount of the wager (except winnings from bingo, keno, and slot machines);
$1,200 or more in gambling winnings from bingo or slot machines;
$1,500 or more in proceeds (the amount of winnings less the amount of the wager) from keno....

 

Hard to say if they would give you a $40,000 line of credit.

The UK has a tax treaty with the USA - there is no tax withheld on gambling wins for UK gamblers.
