    My Trip Report

I got back Tuesday from my 4th trip to Las Vegas. This trip was just me and the wife. She has come along to all of my trips, but usually there are others who come along. We have always had a great time, but unfortunately, Vegas didn’t work for other people’s budgets this time. As we got closer to the trip, I found myself getting more excited at the prospect of just going with my wife.
I went ahead and made some plans in advance. I planned for a dinner at Mon ami gabi on the first night, 10/24. I also redeemed a ticket for Zumanity through myvegas, and purchased a 2nd one. I also planned on going to Tender Steakhouse on 10/27, even redeemed the myvegas reward for $75 off, but didn’t use it (should have planned to use it the same day of the show).

    Day 1 – October 24
The day started out as any other Saturday, with just a bit more butterflies. My daughter had a 9:00 am soccer game, so I went to that first. After the game, me and my wife got some last minute stuff packed and headed to the airport at noon for a 1pm flight.

We landed in Vegas around 2:20 pm, picked up the bags and took a cab to Harrah’s. In my previous visits, I stayed at the Luxor, The Mirage, and Monte Carlo. Got to the check in line at close to 3 pm, and there was only a few people in front of us. We get to the counter and I give the woman at the desk my info, and try the $20 trick. She handed me the $20 back and said she would only take it if she could find a real upgrade. I booked a basic room and after checking, she said that it was a really busy weekend, and she would give us the best room she could. We ended up in the mardi gras tower, with a view of the High Roller, pool and part of the strip. I don’t know how much of an upgrade it was , but I liked the room, and the view, and the woman was very friendly.

We got into the room and let our stuff, I decided to go to walgreens for some essentials while my wife relaxed. I got a couple of bottles of cheap alcohol for the room, with some soda, some advil, pedialyte and water. Then I sat down and just stared out the window for a while, sipping on a couple of drinks. Dinner reservations were at 6:00 PM. We got to Mon Ami Gabi at 5:45, got a patio seat and had a great dinner. Lots of good people watching and got to watch a couple of fountain shows while we ate. This was my first time at this restaurant and I thought it was really good. After dinner we walked around a bit, taking in the strip. We got over to the Bellagio to take the tram to Monte Carlo, to get over to NYNY for Zumanity. I had a good time at the show. Lots of humor, a decent amount of nudity, and some acrobatics. When I see shows, I like to laugh, so that is usually the big thing for me. I think Absinthe was better, but I did like Zumanity a lot. You can't take pictures of the show, but i took a shot of the view of the balcony seat. Seems like every seat is a good one.

After the show, we needed somewhere to go for music, but we were undecided. We ended up going to La Salsa Cantina, over on the south end of the strip. We wanted some Spanish music and that was one place I knew would have what we were looking for. Ended up there and got completely smashed on margaritas and beer. My wife and I had somewhat of an argument that centered around how drunk I felt vs. how drunk I was… and that didn’t go well lol. Overall, the first night was fun. I gambled about $100 when we got back to Harrah’s before heading to bed.

    Day 2 – October 25
Day 2 was different from day 1 because I had nothing planned ahead of time (which is usually how I like it). My wife was not feeling great, and was comfortable in the bed, so I thought I’d let her rest while I headed downstairs. Played a $20 here and a $20 there on slots, but quickly got bored. Looked around for some blackjack but didn’t jump into anything yet. Decided to play some quarter video poker. I was up and down for most of the session. A lot of 2 pairs and jacks or better, so no actual wins. I hit one quad, and that was queens, but that was the only thing decent.

I then found a $5 BJ table at the Linq and played that for a while (yes it was 6:5). It was a continuous shuffle and I should have stayed away, but I wanted to get in a session before the wife was ready to come down. Lost my $100 buy in after about 45 minutes or so. Overall, was down about $250 for the morning (which my wife thought was a crazy amount of money). She doesn’t gamble much. She’ll feed a $20 into a machine and when its gone, she has no desire to put any more into the machine.
So we decided it was time to get food, it was getting close to 2pm and we didn’t have breakfast or anything. We decided to try hash house a go go at the linq, but it was packed. It was going to be a 30 to 45 minute wait. So we decided to go back down to Guy Fieri’s because we walked by it a couple of times and it smelled incredible. I had the original ringer burger, and my wife ordered the fireball whisky wings. We split them and I had a Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA to wash it down. The food was great, we did not regret our decision at all. The burger tasted really fresh and the wings had a lot of meat on em.

After food it was just some walking around… the Linq, then down to the miracle mile shops. Nothing really major to report on there. We planned to head back out to a Lounge that night, so around 8 pm we headed back toward’s Harrah’s to rest up a bit and get ready. As we got into the hotel, my wife mentioned that she wanted to play her favorite game, green machine. There is a picture below of the game for those not familiar with it (this is a random picture from the internet). There are 5 reels and you pay a dollar per reel. You win whatever dollar amount shows up on whatever reels you are playing. The most straightforward slot you will find.
She puts a $20 in, and plays 1 reel…. And BOOM! She hits for $1000. First spin, 1 reel, hits for a grand. She then plays down the $20, and then hits for another $100. She hates gambling… but there she is, up $1100. She cashes out and we head back to the room.

We go back out looking for a lounge to go to. We head up to the Venetian to try V Bar, looks cool, but was dead. We go by the Bourbon Room, looks like a party, but my wife didn’t like the music. We walk to Rhumbar, get ready to be seated, and they tell us they will seat us but they are closing in 30 minutes (this was at 11:30 pm). We walk down the strip and back towards the Flamingo/Linq area, and decide to follow the music. We end up at Carnaval Court, right outside our damn hotel!! It ended up being a great time. They had a DJ and a live band. The live band was covering a lot of hip hop and pop songs from the 90’s and early 2000’s. Ended up getting really drunk there. There was some great people watching there. Got back to the room around 4 AM.

    Day 3 – October 26th
This day was a pretty relaxing day for us. It started out the same, she stayed in bed and I headed downstairs. I got some Mcdonalds breakfast, took it to the room and headed back down. Lost $100 in video poker and decided to hit a $5 blackjack table at the Toby Keith party pit area. Was up around $60 at one point, but was looking to push it to $100 before my wife was ready to come down. Ended up back at my buy in.. broke even, drank a couple newcastles… not a bad session overall.
I headed out the door and went to the Tix4Tonight booth. Ended up getting 2 tickets for Marc Savard, Comedy Hypnosis and 2 day passes for the high roller. Once the wife came down, it was shopping time. We headed over to the Fashion Show mall and she did her thing. From there, we headed to the linq as our voucher for the high roller was good until 6 pm. It was 4:45 pm and we had to walk back from the mall still. We got to the high roller around 5:45 pm. It was the perfect time because it got dark outside as we were on the high roller. I thought the views were great, but the ride was fairly short. I don’t know if I’d go on again, but I was at least glad we went on this time.

After we got off of the high roller, we stopped at Sprinkles and got a cupcake each. I had the s’mores and she had the chocolate marshmallow. They were incredible. We weren’t even hungry at all, we just wanted to stuff our faces some more I guess. Not much really went on this night, we took it easy. We were supposed to go to Tender this day, but we weren’t all that hungry and didn’t want to go all the way to Luxor. We went down to the V theater at 9 pm for the 10 pm Marc Savard show. For some reason, they take forever to let you into the theater, so my feet were killin me. They finally let us in, right at 10 PM to get to our seats. I didn’t know what to expect, I had never been to a show like this before.
There is a bit of comedy, and then he lets the volunteers come up. He does his hypnosis thing to the 30 or so volunteers and weeds out the ones who won’t be good for the show. He is left with about 12 people on stage and gives them each a different type of act. One woman was to fall in love with him if he shook her hand, another was to be repulsed by him. An older man was to lead a river dance when the certain music came on.. Overall, it was a funny show. I’m sure plenty of it was staged, but I was entertained, and that was the main thing. At the end of the show he tells the women on stage that after he closes the show, when anybody shakes their hand, they will have an intense 3 second orgasm until they leave the mall area. One of the women was in front of us as we were leaving and her boyfriend grabs her hand and she drops to the floor moaning… Whether its real or not… very entertaining. That was pretty much the end of the night (like I said, we took it easy). We stopped at white castle and headed up to the room. Our flight back to San Jose was at 11:20 am.. so plenty of time to get up, pack, and head out to the airport.

Overall, it was a different trip from my previous ones. I typically get wayyy drunker, but with it being just me and my wife, we took it down a notch and it was actually a good thing. We both had a great time.
Up next, looking to book a trip around April 2016, downtown, with my brother and 2 cousins. That would be more of a drinking and gambling trip, which will be a blast.

She tried it out at Casino Royale last year and hit for $100... so that has been her machine since then. Its a pretty fun machine, well not for me, because i get all of the blank reels.

I think Harrah's is very underrated, rooms are clean and comfortable, casino easy to navigate, good food and entertainment options both nearby and on property and well priced.

Nice report. Nice to have a relaxing trip once in a while. We also like staying at in the Mardi Gras rooms at Harrah's. Now you've made me anxious to try the big green machine on this next trip. Played that at Casino Royale in the past and won a whopping $50 for this low roller on my last day.

That was the best part, for my wife i mean... she does not like gambling, and every $20 she puts into a machine, she sees it as something she could have bought haha.. So her winning $1000 on her first $1 was pretty cool. We hit that machine a couple other times without winning, but its a fun machine.
