Early check in

What resorts offer early check in as an option?

I'll be arriving at my resort around 11:00 AM and would like to have my room ready; instead of waiting tell 3 PM.

 

all will offer early check in for a fee. But I can usually get in by noon with no charge. Just ask if rooms are ready. if not ask when. Worst case, go have lunch and come back and check in.

 

If you want a room guaranteed early and don't mind paying a fee you can set that up when you book your room. Most MLife properties offer this option.

If not it's a crap shoot if your room will be ready early.

 

I wouldn't pay anything upfront and take a chance when checking in. In the past year or so I haven't been charged a fee for checking in early (usually right around 11 a)m at MB, Delano, Bellagio, PH, or Aria.

 

I did it this past trip for $35.00 at Mirage. I don't think it was worth it. You're going to get whatever is available and I got the 7th floor with an awesome view of the A/C units. It doesn't really matter in the long run, I suppose, I just like to be on high floor.

I don't think I will do it again. I'll take my chances and if nothing is available, I'll just check my bags and chill until 3:00. That's what I always did before and almost every time, I got a decent room without having to wait too long.

I really think it's another dollar gouging routine.

Or for me, I could take a later flight. I only take the flight I did because it was non-stop. A later flight with a say, 2:00 P.M. arrival, and there usually isn't a problem.

 

A few notes.

First off, I am guessing you only care about YOUR resort vs a list of many.

In general, hotels all advertise a late afternoon checkin. In reality, folks have been known to checkin at all times of the day. I even checked in once at 7am. After all, it is not like all the rooms are ready at EXACTLY 3PM. Nor do they want everyone showing up at the counter all at once at 3PM.

Some hotels attempt to make money by charging for those rooms ready early. Some do not. And some with rules are lax about it.

This is often discussed under STRIP HOTELS. You might want to check there.

 

I don't think early check in is necessary in many cases. If my wife and I show up early and a room is not available, we simply leave our bags with the valet (sometimes after changing clothes) and head out for some fun. If hotel staff call us and let us know a room is ready - great. If not, we're not going to sit around waiting for one. Life is too short.

The strip is moving towards a fee for check in that early. If you want guaranteed access at 11AM, even off strip places will charge. Many places will give you access as rooms are available starting at 1PM.

The reason I brought up the question, was not for me, but for my 87 year young mom. She can get a non stop flight (the only one offered that day on Southwest) that arrives in LV at 9:40 AM. I was thinking it would be easier for her if her room was ready when she arrives at the hotel.

But with MOM in tow, just check in (wherever) and let them know you would appreciate a room asap since mom is tired. blah blah.

Just ask nice or have a $10 bill in your hand for Check in person.

I almost Always get a rooom early IF they have it available, and never paid an early check in fee. Thats baloney. I wouldn't pay it.

Just ask nicely. I think it will happen.

Several times I've had them tell me to the effect of "If you will take a room on 3, I can check you in now, if you want something higher, come back in a few hours."

 

Will your Mom be arriving before you? Is the room in your name or hers? Because if she is there and you are not, and the room is under your name, she will not be able to check in, period. So that's something else to consider.

 

Like others I wouldn't pay the extra but my room is usually ready, and if it isn't it depends on if I'm solo (which I usually am) or if I have a friend staying with me. If I have a friend who perhaps has not been before, or often, I'll wait out the time to get a view, a certain suite etc. But for me solo (I like the end King V suites ending in 16 at Delano), like I'm checking in tomorrow just for 1 night at Delano, then moving to Cosmo for two nights for a Slot Tourney...I won't care where I stay, so if my room isn't ready on check in, I'll take the dog house. Don't matter to me much anymore. I just don't like busy elevators. And adjoining rooms where you can hear everything next door. Same applies to Cosmo but,,not much can compare to the suites facing the fountains...If I'm bringing my sons and friends down I'll get THEM the view room and I'll take one in the back facing a wall or the parking lot (try to save my host some comps).

 

We generally arrive at a hotel with the dawn (slight exaggeration - love the east coast time difference). With only one exception, we have always gotten a room upon arrival, and without a fee. Twice a fee was mentioned, one time the clerk quickly continued that she could probably "do something about that" and got us the room without it. THe only time I've had to pay the fee was at LINQ. I did pay, only because my wife and I had several bags. Had we checked the bags I would have probably tipped a $20, especially after a few drinks in the Casino. I think early check in was $25 or $30...for an extra $5-10 bucks it was worth it for us to have the bags safely stored in the room and not be carrying my briefcase and her purse (with our bankrolls) around the casino.

2 - Will Mom arrive with you, or on her own?
3 - Not asked, but how are you getting from airport to hotel?

 

We have not picked the hotel yet. We'll be staying in town for 4 nights; the first 2 nights (Wednesday & Thursday will be at a mid-tier hotel (NY-NY, Monte Carlo, Harrah's, TI, etc.) and Friday & Saturday we'll be staying at Bellagio.

Mom will be there before me. I'm flying in from Charlotte and probably won't arrive in town until after 5.

Mom will probably have her name on the reservation so she'll be able to check in.

We'll either take a cab or shuttle. It all depends on the hotel we select for the first 2 nights.

 

Do not make your 87 year old Mom have to take the shuttle. Then again, hope she is cool with standing in line for a cab.

Have taken my similar aged Mom out there. We arrived the day before and that was one of the few times we did get a car, mainly so we could pick her up at the airport.

As to hotels, I would not make her have to switch hotels mid way. Keep in mind you may leave one hotel at noon, and maybe the next one does not have rooms ready yet. Or, like the earlier question, maybe you get early checkin, maybe not.

Not sure if you are getting any comp nights that might steer you to certain hotels.
