I want to try the sandwich to get the upgrade, should I NOT check-in online? Thanks!

Is this a trick question? You can't slip the computer a $20.

No- I'm just wondering how final online check-in is. Will it preclude my trying the $20 sw once I actually do arrive at the hotel? OTOH if I DON'T check in online, will this make me sit and wait for a room for hours once I arrive?

I was told once you check in on-line you are "assigned" a room. It would defeat the entire purpose of online check in to go up and try to persuade a room change. The idea is speed over substance with online check-in.

No one knows for sure how long the line would be. Its a Sunday so I wouldn't expect any marathon lines early.

Not so much how long the line will be, but how long the wait will/would be for a "room to be ready." OK- I think I'll wait and see what happens with the SW. Really wanting a "GO" room.

Checking in online means that they're assigning a room to you; all that's happening when you get to the hotel is that they're handing you the keys. As far as the alternative, I've never waited "hours" for a room at any Vegas hotel. The longest I ever waited was about two hours at MGM, and that was because, while they had a room ready for me, I told them I didn't mind waiting if it meant a better room (and I wound up with a Spa Suite). It depends in part on when you're getting there, but if you're showing up early evening, you shouldn't have to wait.
