Going for my annual poker trip next month. Playing tournaments at Planet Hollywood and maybe Venetian. Live play will probably be restricted to MLife casinos.

Which offers better rewards on craps play, MLife or TR? Should I stick to one or the other due to poker play? So far, I've only played craps at MLife casinos and was told $15 min bet for rating, is TR similar?

Poker play barely rates, so I would not let that dictate where you play craps. If you're playing at the $15 level, it probably does not make a big difference. In terms of comps, you're probably just looking at discounted future room rates at either company. So just play where you most enjoy it

Played 3 hours craps at $215 average bet at Excalibur and couldn't get a lunch comp because I was told "you won money and we have a business to run" from the executive host

Were you staying at Excalibur? My mom earned over 1,000 slot points in basically a day and the Aria Mlife people told her since she won money she only could use her express comps. I think Mlife are tightening up their backend comps(at least for the low roller types) as part of their PGP. I have noticed my back end comps going down as my play has been steady if not a little more.

It will be interesting to see what happens after Dec 15th with Mlife.

I thought comps were not contingent on winning or losing? That's crazy that you couldn't even get lunch.

I typically stay at Mlife properties, so I suppose I'll play there. They just didn't seem to care about craps play, so I was wondering if TR would be better. This coming trip we are staying at Bally's though.

Don't play craps at TR! TR craps games pay less than Mlife craps games. TR short pays many payouts. For instance, the horn/hop bets only pay out 29:1 instead of the usual 30:1. and only 14:1 instead of the usual 15:1. The C & E bets also payout at this lower rate. And if you want to leave both TR and Mlife behind, you can go to almost any other casino in Las Vegas and get almost even payouts on the field because they will pay triple on the 12 (triple on the 2 and 12 is an even bet).

Some places are contingent on win/loss. But that's not necessarily a bad thing depending how they treat the losers vs. the winners.

And what kind of rates are you playing at Bally's? Did you put in your TR number? And if you did, did you get a significant discount? If those are both true, I'd play your craps at Bally's since they KNOW you're there.

Pretty sure I put in my number. I used a 30% off code. Was only planning on staying there and mostly playing elsewhere, couldn't I also play at Planet Hollywood since its under the same rewards? I don't typically get big discounts because I've almost exclusively played poker last several trips. Really want to get back to some craps tables this trip but not sure how much I'll actually play.

I'm a local guest and did not stay at Excalibur. I earned about 20$ express comps for 3 hrs at $215 average bet. Host acted like I didn't know how comps worked and when I questioned her approach she said "I think this conversation is over"

Yes, playing anywhere in CET would help you for future offers. But if you play so low, it really doesn't matter where you play. I don't get anything from CET either. I'd also be curious to know where you got a 30% off code. Everything I've seen this year as far as public codes has been less than that.

Thanks! I've used them in the past sometimes. May have to sign up when scouting a future trip.

I belive you need to read how these are actually listed on the layout. I'm guessing that one layout reads 30 for 1, which means they keep your original bet. So it is the same as 29 to 1.

No really TR does short change some hop bets and horn bets. The payouts are slightly worse.

If you're playing at $15 level (or below) you have to play a LONG time to get enough to really register for comps, and even then maybe not much. From your post I take it this is largely a poker trip with some craps thrown in. So I wouldn't let potential comps dictate where you play. It was said previously, but just play where you want to play and have fun. That said, TR does give points for craps play (not much, but some), if you have any aspirations to advance in player level. TR is also (in my experience) more generous with offers for minimal slot play. So if you're wanting to try for some comps, add an hour or so of slots to your poker and table gaming, and I think you'll get much better offers.

Although I mainly play at V/P, when I am playing craps (my primary game) I often go to TR properties. My personal faves are the one-off tables at O'Sheas and Margaritaville. Good drink service, and (typically) a more dutiful pit boss - which is a double-edged sword, but in my case benefits my style of play.

It's true that some of the tr properties will have different payouts on the hops/horn and it just depends on which you go to. Caesars has 30 to 1 and 15 to 1 and triple 12 on field etc but Cromwell has double double on field and 30 for 1 and 15 for 1. The casinos are split on this throughout the strip it seems to me with the nicer properties offering the better payouts.

Also, Caesars now has the all tall small instead of the fire bet. Not sure about the other TR properties because I just got here to Vegas today but I wasn't expecting that. Dealers said they changed the layout at Caesars about a week ago.

I don't know the HA or the math on both, but personally I like the all tall small versus the fire bet.

Craps is admittedly not my game (I'm a blackjack guy)...but there's no question in my mind that CET Total Rewards is the way to go if you're a lower-rolling craps player. The downside is you'll probably have to decide if places like Flamingo are even worth the resort fee for your "free" room. I do like Ballys and Paris, though. A friend of mine plays $10-$15 on the pass line with 2x odds and sometimes places the 6 and 8 ( gives them 4+ hours of play per day) and can get free rooms anytime at the lower-end CET joints. As of two years ago, CET was still rating "odds" bets...I don't believe MLIFE will. Of course CET adjusts thei loss accordingly, so it probably doesn't matter much.

Here are the downsides for Total Rewards craps players: Yes they will short-pay on some field and sucker bets. But do you really want to make these dumb bets anyway? Stick to the pass or don't pass with odds ...and maybe place the 6 and 8 if you get a wild hair and you'll be okay. CET is also VERY stingy with food comps. I swear it's much easier to get a free room from them than it is a buffet.
