We're headed to Western NC for a week in the mountains, and will visit the Harrah's in Cherokee (annual visitor), and possibly Murphy...curious if anyone has any recent intel on either? Thanks.

Have not been yet. There are some one sentence reviews on their facebook page... actually just comments.

They only have a food court. No room service or buffet.
Some indications that it may be smoky. Maybe opening issues?
We were planning to head for Grand Opening, but lack of restaurant pushed us away. Also, no parking garage. Neither are deal breakers, but....

Guessing the casino and hotel are decent though. By the way, they gave been running weekday hotel room specials on Facebook. Maybe less people are staying over?

I missed it by about a week. I was at the Cherokee NC one for Larry the Cable Guy. Well, we were in the area for a motorcycle trip and he was performing so we got tickets. I'm not a Larry fan girl.

If anyone goes to Murphy please let us know. We are not big Harrahs fans ( The evil empire) but it is close by.

Murphy is going to be a day destination for people from Atlanta and Chattanooga. They are already offering lots of free rooms but why stay overnight when there is nothing else to do. Cherokee is a full fledged casino with poker room and 100's of table games. This is designed to take a small load off Cherokee and make day trip customers happy

If you play slots, VP or table games, you can do that at the new casino. You can stay overnight and do it again the next day.

What you can not do is play live poker or eat in a real restaurant or buffet at the new casino.

I went day 2. I live on northwest side of metro ATL and 2 hours from my door step. Casino was not smoky at all. Plenty of $5 table games early in the day, with good rules (3/2 BJ, craps), vp was typical harrahs. All the normal slots are there (quick hit, etc). stayed 3 hours and home for dinner. Two days later had a few nights of comped room on the harrahs calendar already. Casino was not too busy until about noon, and then people started arriving. Will be a great day trip for me. Additional drive to Cherokee can be avoided.

My only problem is that it is too damn easy to do this!!!!! I'm sure this is not my only trip to Murphy.

    I really like this place!

Thanks for the intel.....very informative. We went to Cherokee Tuesday and had a good time. Not like Vegas in that there are no free drinks, besides soda, coffee or water. However the overall service is very good. The one thing that stood out is the lack of any of the newer slot machines. The new ones we played/saw in Vegas this past August are not in Cherokee. I'm curious if some of the newer machines are in Murphy? We may check out Murphy Friday...1 1/2 hrs from Waynesville NC, and a very scenic drive.

Finally made it there myself. Stopped in on my way to the older/regular Cherokee.

Totally outside parking lots. Weather was nice, so no big deal.
As I walked in, I did notice smoke, but it must not be bad as I did not think about it again. Good slot selection. Seems to be mostly newer video types. Nice variety in high limit slots. Overall, I did fine and left with money to spend at Cherokee.

Diamond Lounge was rather plain. One big room. Bar was nice. Staff was very friendly. There was some sort of food available, but I was thirty and ready to play.

Food court covers most options well. Burger at Nathans was really good.

Decent place, but I checked it out and headed to the regular place.

Agree with your recap. Cherokee's gaming floor must be at least 3X the size of Murphy's, however I really like some of the new machines in Murphy...plus Earl of Sandwich.
