I originally posted the following in 2013 and got many replies. Let's start it up again. Some on my list are gone: Benny's Bullpen is no more, and the Vue Bar was replaced by an escalator. Downtown vets: We all love DT, and have visited countless times. So, what are your favorite "secret" or "deals" or just something you find charming? I realize that by sharing it, your "secret" will be out, but I'd love to hear it. I've learned SO much about the city I love most from reading this board. Some of my faves: 1. (Learned on VMB): If you cut through the back of Binion's, and take a left on that street, only about a block away is the east entrance to the Cal. Then you can either play there, or go up the escalator and over the walkway to MSS. Cuts off blocks going the other way. 2. The 4Q has the best drink service. All the staff there are friendly, and very generous with the cocktails, especially when playing at the bar. 3. The Vue Bar upstairs at the D is the best spot to sit and recupe for a moment, and enjoy the light show. 4. Upgrades are way easier to get downtown. I usually offer a tip, and have never been turned down for a suite (four times running). 5. Lovo Cigars--now in Neonopolis. Quality smoke for a good price, unlike that place in Binion's, outside of Benny's Bullpen. 6. Benny's Bullpen--Great spot for a snack or a drink. Great prices and generous portions. 7. Mob Museum--awesome spot. I'm dying to hear what you all have!
Apparently if you are 50+ you are a "senior" in Boyd's eyes. Their "Young at Heart" Wednesday promotion is a good deal. They offer up to "up to 50x points" (swipe at kiosk) and 2 for 1 meals or even a free buffet depending on play. I won $100 in FP in the 5 pm drawing!
Lappert's Ice Cream on the 2nd floor of the California is some of the best ice cream anywhere! And almost impossible to find outside of Hawaii.
Yes, Lappert's!! And get a brochure at the registration desk at Main Street Station. It will guide you to and tell you about the amazing antiques in the casino.
SDX has a stop on Main and Ogden(not on the pdf) by Cal and MSS going to strip. Also has one at 1st and Ogden coming back by Cal.
Secret restrooms at 4Q on the way out to the parking garage. Last trip the main restrooms were closed for over three hours with no sign suggesting the alternative.
Not sure if its much of a secret but my favorite bar in Vegas is Oak & Ivy which is located in the contianer park. Really well made drinks {mainly whiskey} and personal service. I have never had a bad experiance there.
The Neon boneyard is a great tour and very interesting just beware during summer there is no shade. Going for a night tour next week for first time Second the Mob Museum love Nacho Daddy and Le Thai
Oh and snacks from the Beef Jerky store First time visitors - plan on Walgreens for your typical drugstore needs if you take carry on only
Free tour of the Smith Center. Sign up online. Not a bad walk if the weather's good. Very impressive place with great architecture, designed to last for centuries (so they claim).
Places I think not a lot of tourist know about. I like Carson Kitchen and close to downtown Frankie's Tiki Room...
I keep meaning on going there after Dupars, but I'm always so full. Guess I'll just need to have an ice cream lunch one day.
With ACG coupon, I think others too, Mike Hammer comedy/magic show at 4 Q's is 2 tickets for $23. Not the best show in Vegas but not bad for the price.
Market Street Cafe at the Cal. Great food and service at bargain prices! http://www.thecal.com/dine/market-street-cafe
Oh yeah, LOVE the Market Street Cafe. Their prime rib dinner for $10 from 4-11PM is my absolute favorite deal in vegas.
Has Loco Moco made it to the Strip yet? I first tried it at 4Q Magnolia's and have had it at Orleans Cafe. Now I only order it at Cal's Aloha Specialties. If a burger patty and eggs over rice and gravy is wrong, I don't wanna be right!
