A friend from work is going to Vegas near the end of the month. I think it's just a guy trip, but his friend booked a room here for them. I've read the reviews on Trip Advisor and it sounds about as bad as I imagined!

Anyone here have any recent personal experience to share?

    Thanks,
    Lauren in TX

There has been some remodeling and it is now owned by Ellis Island Casino. The reviews from members here are mixed but it seems to be improving. I would think it would be fine for a guys trip, its a short walk to the strip and next door to cheap eats and booze.

I thought that Ellis Island DID buy the Super 8 either last year or early this year?

I stayed there a couple of years ago for two nights. It's a typical Super-8 budget type motel room. It was older and spartan but clean and comfortable and everything worked.

The one thing I most remember about it is that there's no regular (outbound) taxi service like there is at the major hotels.

Thought it was bought, or taken over by Ellis Island also. Been lots of remodeling. Has a huge resort fee now of 2.95

We stayed for 1 night before a road trip and it was fine.Nothing fancy and the halls are really dirty but for 1 night 29$ and free breakfast it was fine.We walked to the strip and had the bar-b-que which was really good and we like the home brew.Sundays during football games 1$ lg. draft homebrews. Can't beat that!

Thanks folks. I discussed with my friend and he's cool with staying there.

    More power to him!

One benefit of staying here is the free 24 hour airport shuttle, I used it for a stay two years ago when my Saturday flight arrived at 10:00 pm. I can put up with pretty much anything for one night and this fit the bill for a cheap 2* hotel. The front desk had to call a cab for me at checkout and I gave up waiting so I walked to the 7-11 nearby and hailed a cab there.

Had a couple of beers at Ellis Island and played a little bar top VP and some $5 blackjack.

My two brothers and I are staying there for March Madness this year, for the 2nd year. We love the Ellis Island casino. Low minimums, cheap drinks, lots of regular Joe's walking around, which is what we are. Last year we got a killer deal and we all agreed we'd give it a try. After that trip the consensus was that it was more than adequate for 3 dudes who don't need any frills. We are going again this year, and flying out of Minneapolis. 5 nights at Ellis Island and airfare.......just north of $250 each. Can't beat it!

Our flight was canceled on USAirways one year and this is where they put us up at. It was fine for one night and I got to enjoy a night of eating, drinking and gambling at Ellis Island. I noticed a lot of Southwest Airline employes were staying there too. Nice to have a shuttle that takes you to the airport also.

I've heard some positive comments but at the end of the day it's a Super 8 and there is a limit to the potential fabulousness.

Dewey089 used to stay there to keep costs down. He was ok with t he accomodations and besides the proximity to reasonable grub at Ellis Island\ they have a laundry (COIN OPERATED) to get his laundry done for the next leg of his trip. I sometimes check there online but have always found a better place for the same money.

stayed there for 2 (weekend) nights end of January.

Rooms are below normal Super 8 standard. Old and worn. But room was clean. There was a strange smell in the hallway but not in the rooms. So, I would not book again.

Had an issue with a guy at registration desk. My room key did not work when trying to enter the hotel in the back (from parking). Went to the registration and told him. He assured me the key would work in the room and did not care to test the key (a 20 second task). So I went up to the room only to find out the key did not work there either. All the (long) way back to registration, Guy was not here, another one listened to my story, checked the key and gave me a new one without even a "sorry".

I would recommend Travelodge over Super 8. You can get good and cheap food at Ellis Island. Also beer.
