So my wife and I did the WAX for the first time this trip to downtown. Thank you everyone for promoting the WAX by the way. Why didn't we do this before?? Anyway, we got on at terminal 1. There was this guy selling partially used bus passes and offered me one. I had big red flags going off in my head and politely declined. I was only going to save a buck but it just seemed, well like something wasn't right. So we took the WAX back to the airport, terminal 1, and he was there again but this time was asking to buy any unused bus passes. Has anyone else encountered this guy? Have you taken advantage of this?

I've seen a guy like that, I bought my pass from him too(for $2 - regular rate), I looked at it close to make sure it wasn't expired. They're just bums trying to make a buck, since alot of people buy passes for a day or more longer than they need.

Yea, no harm in buying from them if you need a ticket. They are at every bus stop, when I dont need a pass.

If it's an unlimited ride pass, it will likely still be valid within its dates. As others said, some people overbuy and either gift those passes to him, or sell it to him for a reduced rate. Last time I took the bus, I got a pass that lasted for 12 more hours for free because I chatted on the bus with a guy who no longer needed his. Guy worked for the city and he got free daily passes as part of his job. My destination (Suncoast casino) was also his park and ride stop. I appreciated it; saved me $2 for the WAX and a bit of a walk on the Strip as I transferred to the SDX.

Yes, some people buy the pass just to get around to do their thing, then when they finished with it they may try to sell it just to get back a buck.

I haven't seen this is Las Vegas, but then I haven't gone looking either, but I have in other cities and thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of times in my home town - they are pretty common at major transit stops, especially end points, to have somebody there asking people getting off the bus/rail/boat for their transit ticket and then when they have a few running them over to somebody at the ticketing area who tries to sell them.

On one hand it is a step above panhandling and you could say at least they are showing initiative and not just begging on the street... but on the other hand they are effectively stealing, and aiding anybody who buys a ticket from them, from the transit company.

    Auggie is right.
Those folks are effectively stealing, from everybody.
The public transit is non-profit and supported by tax, everyone (locals and visitors) paid for it.

Not stealing, you buy a pass it's yours... to use, sell, wipe your ass.

I always used to give mine away or drop it at the Concierge if it had more time left on it. Then I thought that RTC probably needs that money to run the buses and I was taking money from them so now I throw it away in the trash. I've never read the T&Cs on them but I would imagine it says non transferable somewhere.
