Since, I visit LAS different times of the year they usually have some type of charity going on and I do enjoy helping them out. Not that I don't support my community which I do. It's nice to do something in LAS besides supporting the casinos.

Oh yeah, the lady at Walgreens asked for this for a toy drive for children in custody and I gave a fifty, the lady was quite surprised, and it was noted on the bill so nice to know it actually went

We support Nevada with our expenditures on goods, services and various taxes. As we do any community we visit. But charity begins at home.

(Actually, we helps friend across the country with their fundraising activities as there is a nexus.)

I do. but not to those organizations.
I just give to the homeless on the street, under bridge, at bus stops.
I usually carry lots of dollar bills with me.

One of the members here ages ago used to do a calendar sale every year to benefit Shade Tree Shelter. I really enjoyed that we were "giving back" to the community, but I'm not much of an organizer of that kind of thing. I'm happy to write a check, but not so much the coordinating and cat herding required to organize a thing like that.

I will if I come across something in my normal movements but I won't go out of my way. I am probably not alone in that and it would be nice to see casinos partner more with local organizations to give them support.

Las Vegas Rescue Mission is a couple of blocks north of downtown. They do lots of good work for homeless and jobless individuals. We have supported them in small amounts over the last 4 or 5 years. You can take a tour of their facility, though I should warn you that you might feel uncomfortable in the immediate area. The down and out in LV are pretty much the same as the down and out everywhere else.

Beware of legitimate charities that are scams, none-the-less. I wish I could remember its name, but an outfit that claims to be raising money for the homeless, is nothing more than a cash cow for a few people at the the top. They have their people dressed up in official garb and these gullible solicitors really believe the lies their superiors tell them.
Someone help me out on the name of this group, which has been a prominent face on the Strip sidewalks for quite some time. A news investigation team nailed their ass, but they're still out there making plenty of moola of sympathetic types.

I thought all of them are.
There are so many reports that the best charities give less than 5% of total income to the needed, some even less than 1%.
And those are the legitimate charities. Those not-so-legitimate don't give a penny to the needed.

I support my local volunteer fire department and EMS service because they actually do something.

My charities are Vietnam Veterans of America, Wounded Warriors, Disabled American Veterans.

I won't give a dime to street beggars.

I know exactly who you're talking about but can't think of the name either. I can recall seeing them soliciting on the strip and then hearing the report. Weren't they indebted to the top fundraisers somehow so that they felt obligated to stand there? I may be confused about that that though.

I'll keep racking my brains for it. Hopefully someone else chimes in.

Opportunity Village is an OUTSTANDING organization! Three Square Food Bank is the "charity dujour" in town at the moment.
