Before I start, I am still waiting. However, I have read several things about the tax situation.

Am I right in saying that for any tax deducted on your hand pay, it is possible to get it back completely. In other words it is not based on showing losses in the year like I think I have read Canadians need to do?

Also I have read in the past that some Casinos will fill out the forms for you, send it off and give you your win in full.

If this is the case, are there any Brits that have had that experience and is it just luck on the day as to which casino staff comes to your machine or is it a well known fact that a particular casino will do that for you.

Or is that last comment total rubbish and it never happens any more
    Just interested.

    Thanks

On my one and only hand pay I hit $2200 at the Aria, they accepted that I was a UK citizen and filled in all the paperwork for me at the machine to get my ITIN and paid me in full.
I have herd that it does depend upon the casino your in, if the attendant knows the rules properly, If they can be arsed filling in all the paperwork for you.:rolleyes2:
Supposedly once you have your ITIN you just provide this upon request with your photo ID and your quids in :evillaugh

All the casinos have been told now to deduct the taxes unless you already have an ITIN so I think you would have to be very lucky for them to do it for you as it now goes against their guidelines. You will get it all back and have to file a tax return by the following January and then get it back sometime later. My friend got her tax deducted in May 2014 and is still waiting. She had her ITIN quite quickly though. She has been told she should receive her cheque by end December. They were getting a lot of fraud with people with dual nationality and showing a UK passport when they were living in the US. They now will only mail that cheque to a UK address. Just ensure you have your passport on you though just in case you get the big one. Good Luck, it happens! Don't forget as well that if you have more than $10k on you then you must declare it and fill out a form. That includes going in and out of the Country. Don't do what I did and take in more than that and when asked I said I had more but it was between my friend and myself. I had never been asked before so just ticked the less than $10k stupidly as I knew what hassle it was to have to fill the forms in. I wasn't brave enough though to say it was less when I was asked outright, lol. Spent almost two hours in secondary inspection. Won't be doing that again. It also includes English money to the equivalent of dollars. If you are a couple or family and only fill in one customs form then the $10k limit is between everyone on the form. They don't care how much you take in but the question of why you have that much and what are you going to do with it seemed a little daft in Vegas!

I hit a hand pay for 4400 in Aria in June this year. I will caveat this by saying I was playing in Spin, the high limit slot area, so experience may be different on the main floor. They asked me for my passport which I had to go back to the room to get, then went off to complete paperwork. Since that slit was locked up till they got back, I slid along a couple of machines and hit another handpay while I was waiting! Anyway, they came back with all the documents completed and paid me in full. After I got home, a letter arrived from the IRS giving me formal notice of my ITIN. If. Ever hit another handpay, I'm all set up to receive it gross.

So, I know aria high limit slots will help you out.

if you tell them you are from the UK, have your passport and are insistent that you do not pay tax on gambling wins they will pay you in full, or that has been my experience over the last 15 years

if you don't speak up for yourself they will try pay you nett

    This from another Vegas forum,

(I thought I would try my luck,on Wolf Run-5cent machine, max bet= $6 per spin-on my second spin,it hit!!! A nice hand pay for $2450!!-and no tax to pay!! Woohoo!!!!! It took a while,to get the paperwork sorted, but 2 large Baileys helped the wait!!

This person won last month and had no ITIN, she won at the Bellagio so it proves that they will still do it for you.

Does anyone know if you can ask in your casino for an ITIN before you start gambling therefor avoiding any hassle?.

I think you can apply for an ITIN in advance, but not through the casino. You need to fill in some IRS forms then get documentation notarised at the U.S. Embassy. I didn't do this myself, but I read a lot about it on poker forums in the run up to this year's WSOP.

Hit $3,500 at Aria in September, popped up to the room to get my passport, filled in some forms and paid in full, quick and painless

Hmm, seeing these replies it seems they just didn't want to be bothered when my friend won. Although she was told the same thing when she took her tax return to the Embassy in London. It's probably guidelines but rules can obviously be broken. Much better than waiting 18 months for a refund for sure.
