This past Sunday 27th, I finally hit a 4 of a kind at Luxor. I had barely sat down and it was my second hand. 8,8,K was my starting hand, let the bet ride and the next 8 popped up. Now I've been in this position before but the 4 of a kind has never happened for me. My brother is sitting next to me and he says he needs a 7, I say I need an 8. No sooner than I said boom the dealer turns over the other 8, Damn I could not believe it, I was in shock a little that the last 8 dropped. Well total payout was $3100.

Luxor was different in that the bonus bet is $5 compared to $1 bet at MGM and other places I have played it at. Which was a good thing for me because that $5 bonus bet payed $1500. Then 50-1 on the other 3 let it ride bets (I was playing $10). Actually I don't even know where the other $100 came from but that is what they payed me. I also was playing $5 on the 3 card bet.

You know what the best part was?- NO TAXES

Hits like that are what make the carnival games so addictive. Congrats!

Awesome hit! I know that feeling when you have trips and you are waiting that final card to be turned, the stomach churning can be unreal, glad it finally paid off for you!

    I know the feeling!
I was playing UTH at Gold Coast & got an 8-J...I checked, and the flop pulled up an 8. I raised the two units...and (you guessed it), the turn/river was the other two 8s.
    Congrats!
PS - the 5-card bonus was $1500 (300-1)... the 3 'play bets' were 50-1 (so, $500 each) and the 3-card bonus was $150 (trips)...so, your payoff should have been $3150

    Nicely done, sir!

Pardon my ignorance...but how much did you have at risk for that sweet win? $35?

    Congrats.

Thanks to everybody for the congrats. I was betting $40 all together. As for the 3 card bet, I did not have trips, in my 3 card hand I only had a pair of 8's w/ a King.

...very nice...I've hit 4OAK twice with starting small pairs...not brave enough to let the first bet ride but I can't complain...also, I've NEVER seen the $1 bonus bet set at $5..that's criminal...lol....I never play it...when it comes to the BJ, LIR, etc. side bets (usually money sucking but can be fun) I stick to my game plan of "always" or "never" play them. LIR is my favorite...many great/fun memories....Congrats again!!!

Back in the early/mid '90s, my friend hit four Jacks within a few minutes of sitting down at a LIR table at Bally's. It was the first week they debuted the game and we were amazed you could win $750 on a game that required a $15 buy-in but really only a $5 loss per hand. I came home from that trip and dealt myself thousands of hands of LIR and have still never hit a 4OAK, for "fun" or at the tables.

In other words, great hit and congratulations, CaliMike!

Have you got a dealt quad in VP yet? Same thing. Odds 1 in 4165.

I agree but at least it worked out for him. Nice hit!

Also nice job avoiding the tax man on the bonus bet. $5 more payout and it actually would have been a W2-G. But if I'm reading the Wizard of Odds right, that bonus bet would be illegal in my home state of Missouri with less than a 70% payback. Ugh. Take the money and run! [emoji106]

I don't play let it ride much anymore and never had a 4oak playing it. I did see it at my table TWICE within a 4 hour session. I thought there was gonna be a congressional investigation at the Mirage after the second one. At a minimum, I thought the dealer would get fired, but he was there the next day dealing, to my surprise. :haha:

Probably wanted to make sure there wasn't an inside job. I remember walking by a straight flush on a LIR table at my local once. They had it shut down for over a half-hour.

Very nice hit!!!! I have been playing LIR for years, and no 4OK yet!!! However, I did get a 4OK playing UTH on the boat in Southern IN. Was dealt a pair of 5s, and the other two 5s were on the flop. Unfortunately, I was not playing the $1 bonus, otherwise it would have been an extra $300. Live and learn! And I have been playing UTH for about a year!

They must have a better paytable on the bonus (progressive) at your Indiana casino...my $1 bet paid either $75 or $100 for 4OAK at Boulder Station earlier this year. I think my $5 Trips bet paid $150. So my total payout was either $225 or $250 for 4 of a kind...(I was only playing the progressive and Trips bets so the others didn't pay anything).

The following day, I was about to sit down at the table when I saw 4 of a kind in the common cards; so both players at the table got paid on that one. Too bad I missed that one.

Although I haven't played LIR all that much, I have been lucky enough to hit 4OAK twice. Both times with all three bets out - first time I held tens, second time I held trip 9's.

Most notable LIR story was when the guy next to me hit a straight flush with one bet out. I was amazed when he pulled back the second bet, with 2 chances at the straight flush.
