Well, much as i wanted to like it, luke warm to the place. Let me share some observations/experiences: (stay: sunday and monday, 9/6 & 9/7)

The room, city suite and they like the color red there. 18th floor facing east. 3 tables surrounding two chairs and couch with not a thing on them. Over in corner, two more chairs and a table, nothing on this either. Lamp on the desk, did not work. Believe the outlet was dead. TV was nice and so was the view. One piece of prom literature re: The Grand in the room. Not much to it.

Bathroom, water pressure for the shower was poor. Very poor. I presume because shower does not have a door and thus too much presume and floor would get pretty damn wet. The space between bottom of sink and faucet - - glad my hands aren't too big, they wouldn't fit. Bad design. I have also never seen bars of soap or shampoo, etc so damn small.

Room appeared clean and little wear I could see.

Food - ate couple times at S&O (hope I have name right) and breakfast was good, service pretty good and price fine. I and another with 6 or 8 others enjoyed our food. Little business in the place when i ate there or passed by many times. Triple George - filet was okay, bit dry, needed some juice. Service at the bar excellent, price okay. Pizza Rock; I must be the only guy who has ever gotten a limpy slice there. Terrible crust I thought and mucho grease.

Pool area - most cool. Good lay out with bar, etc. Should be a party held there every day. I sense it is wasting away.

The casino: who is running this place!!! First, almost elevator music is played at night The Carpenters? Really? Some tunes were fine but far too many might put you to sleep. Yeah, really gets you in the mood to have fun. Second, the spacing of the machines - way too much space. Appears they can't afford more. No feel of being in the thick of things. Third; the much talked about BJ tables in corner - yeah real inviting. Can't imagine playing there and during the those down times, staring at the wall because there is nothing else to look at! I heard from 3 employees how this was suppose to be an intimate setting - - I'm sure this is their approach to sell it. I did see them setting up a craps table off the bar.

People - good people there. Nice, friendly, etc etc. All good.

Traffic: fair amount Sunday and Sunday night (labor day weekend). Still not close to other places DT. Monday, just the opposite both during day and at night = pretty damn dead.

I really wanted to like this place and I might return one day to see how it is going. However, based on what I saw.... if many things don't change, I can't see how they will stay in business. Too bad. There is potential but execution just is not there.

Glad I had 3 nights that followed at Bellagio.....

Thanks for the info. I heard some good things about DTG when it first opened. Seems like a lot of the reports lately have been kind of negative. I will check it out for myself at some point.

Just got back from Vegas today. My friends stayed at Downtown Grand, while I stayed at GN on a comp our first two nights. I popped in there a couple times and wasn't impressed either.
I can't speak much on the casino since I didn't play anything except placing a bet on the football game Thursday night.
Sports Book -- It is small and you can only bet sports. There were only 2 open betting stations, but there were only like 10 people in the sportsbook so there wasn't really a wait. Also, It is not a racebook so no horse betting. Kinda sucked since my buddy got a cabana Friday and we wanted to run down and put some bets in on the Belmont races.

The rooms -- like I said I only popped in and took a quick look. They seemed decent but a little tight. All the furnishing still looked brand new in the room they were in. They had a view heading north

The pool / Cabana -- pool itself was small but there really weren't many people there (I was expecting it to be packed like GN pool is). There is plenty of seating areas but a lot of it is wide open with nowhere to go for shade. It is a cool rooftop pool concept. The cabana were just big covered areas with sofa's in a U-shape and misters on the outside. (not a true cabana that you would expect) -- the plus side is that you had plenty of room in the "cabana" the downside is there was no privacy, no TV, fan, safe, etc. The cabana for Friday was a $200 minimum Food and beverage. The prices were not bad (around $10 for a 3 egg omelet with 3 items in it and home fries-- and the food was decent) and it was $25 for a bucket of 6 corona.

Pizza Rock -- I didn't have a chance to try it but my friends each got 2 slices and threw them out. They said it was just soaked in grease and didn't taste good at all.

I stayed there this past June and enjoyed my visit, but I'm headed there again soon and don't think I'll stay there again. I had no complaints about rooms or service, but the casino is a bit bright for my taste. There are too many other choices on Fremont that are better at about the same price point.

I think the location is a challenge and will take some high-powered, savvy marketers to make DTG stand out from the Fremont crowd.

I havent stayed there but have played some slots a few times and really enjoyed it.

Partied like a rock star, probably because i was the only one drinking and had the cw all to myself.

happened a couple times. I am ok with that.

After pounding away at the $2k 25c royal at Furnace bar in July, just got my first ever email offer from DTG for 2 nights, $30 FP, $20 dining credit for oct/nov/dec.

Currently booked at the D for Oct 30-Nov 2. Is the standard room at the DTG better? I know The D isn't special at all but it's right on Fremont vs a longer walk to the DTG. I've had D rooms that reek like smoke too. Opinions?

I look forward to seeing what has come to The Downtown Grand since I was last there in May. I like the rooms and the pool, I like to be able to find a seat and the crowded scene at the GN doesn't appeal to me. Why all the hate for Pizza Rock??? I love love love it there and have never had a bad experience. Does anyone know if pitboss Scott is still there?

I stayed at DTG last Sun and Mon on a comp and really enjoyed my stay before moving to the Plaza and MSS.
I have never stayed there before and thought the rooms were nice ( better than Plaza and MSS) and the amount of people there was better than I expected from reading the current talk on these pages.
My buddy and I thought the music they play is the best of any casino that We go to ( classic rock from 60's and 70's) something like the MSS use to play, and the CW's came along often and looked great.
My offer was for room and $25 free play but my second day they had another $25 listed on the VP machine screen to play.....that was a surprise
I am in my early 60's and have been going back to Las Vegas twice a year since 1997 and do most of my VP playing DT except for a few local places and MResort. I am so tired of the noisy and crowded Fremont St.scene and would rather hang out anywhere but under the FSE.
I will be back in Feb.and hope my DTG offers continue.
PS.....I do rent a car and DO hope they fix the Valet parking fiasco.....even though I didn't have to pay it is a hassle!

I've seen a couple of posts now that mention classic rock being played, that is a change from the teeny-chicklet-pound-pound ah-ah-ah music they assaulted me with a few weeks ago.

Two weeks ago, they had "Like a Rolling Stone" followed with "Born to Run". I was singing quite loudly into that slot machine that has an alarm clock.

Must have happened in between our visits.

Just ran across this thread which links to an article that may provide insight here.

If you scroll down, they talk about the DTG having plans (by January or sooner) to have new 'skill based' gaming machines on a prime location on the casino floor. Could be why everything seems spaced out in the meantime ...

My experience was the complete opposite of yours around Labor day.

    - No issues with room furnishings. (Non Premium room, just standard)
    - Water pressure did suck, it was super low flow, I will give you that one.
    - Food was great at S&O, service was excellent everywhere.
    - Pool area, I liked the the quiet vibe. Lower the food prices and add more shaded areas my only complaint.
    - Casino was perfect to me, never heard carpenters, just a lot of 80 and 90's rock. I like the machines spread out, I don't want to be elbow to elbow with any drunk a-holes. Good mix of slots and machines were not tight.
    - All good people experiences and exceptional service at furnace bar. I would make this place a regular stay downtown, especially since I don't like the noise of Fremont street.

The weekend of Sept 11 I had a Premium room on the 18th floor of the Grand Tower, and the shower water pressure was so strong that it hurt to have it on my back. I had to step away and let the water stream hit my butt while I was shampooing and soaping.

I've heard two variations of rock music there over the last two years - the first iteration was great. Deep album cuts and classics. Then there are the retread comfy oldtimer classic rock iterations.

But while we were there a month ago there was pop/dance pound pound music that was really awful.

Probably they've gone back to classic rock after pissing everyone off. We actually (successfully) lobbied the CW to turn it down. Who needs 110db at 8am (except The D) ?

As i said, I hope the place does well ultimately. Potential but execution lacks. Here's some room photos as an fyi.....on second though not sure this is working for me.
