The time in between National Finals Rodeo and Christmas tends to be slow.

    And relatively inexpensive.

Agree completely. I have an easier time getting comped then, and better quality comps as well. I also only had to cash in 13,000 points with SWA, rather than the usual 30,000ish, to get myself out there from BWI. This will be the second year in a row I've gone over the same weekend (Dec. 17-20 this year).

@paper - I wouldn't want to goto vegas on a dead low-energy weekend. Dec 17-20 makes perfect sense as a dead weekend in vegas.

Between the NFR and Christmas, as others have said. Just be aware that many shows and some restaurants are closed at that time.

December (right on or before Christmas) is slow.

Dog days of August (often including labour day for some reason ... presumably because school is resuming). Jan-Feb non convention weekends.

Usually the week after a big convention (as long as there isn't another convention after the big one). The week after the CES is usually slower than usual and you can get good hotel deals. But then Jan usually leads up to the super bowl so it starts to pick up not long after.

As others have said, right during Christmas is slow, even dead at times. But then right after it starts to pick up due to the people coming in for new years.

Actually nowadays the porn convention is 2 weeks after the CES. I used to attend both but now I have to decide which to attend since I can't take off 3 weeks in a row. Usually the CES wins out because lately the porn convention has gotten kind of lame and overcrowded.

Also nowadays the week after the CES is a little slow because there isn't any big conventions at the time.

Actually the Internext starts on Saturday and ends the day before the AVN expo so the week leading up to the Internext (right after the CES) is a little slower because there isn't anything going on at the time.

Nuff said, we can agree to disagree. Having stayed the week after the CES (with no porn expo the next week) I noticed that everything slowed down, tables went back down to normal limits, rental cars were cheaper and hotel rates were more reasonable. But usually it picks up on the Thursday/Friday right before the next round of conventions.

My guess is that the weekend of December 18-19-20 will be slowest. That's when we're going, as we almost always do right before the holidays. This year we're saving about $50 pp flying back on the 25th.

We always try to comp surf so we almost always end up moving in the middle of the trip. Last few years Sams Town was not at all crowded right before the holidays but places like Caesars were mobbed. For some reason (I think) two years ago at Caesars just before the holidays there were all kinds of people with dogs. I never figured that one out.

We go every December. But I notice in terms of this year, (at least so far), hotel rates appear to be higher than usual for December. Again, they're certainly not higher than usual when compared to the rest of the year.

I'm hoping it's just because it's still to early to book, and the rates will eventually trend lower.

My wife and I got married on August 28 and have gone for our anniversary on the weekend around that four times. I don't recall it being slow any of those years, but then again I guess I don't have a very big sample size of alternates.

Our trip last year happened to coincide with the Labor Day weekend, it seemed to me the busiest I'd seen the casino at Paris in years.
