I have stayed at the Riv for the last three years for March Madness. I would go with my brother and two uncles (in their 70s). The Riv was perfect for our uncles because it had their only requirement, it was CHEAP! Also, the Riv great viewing of the games with not a lot of people crowded into a room. We were so disappointed to see it close. So with all the time, money and effort for getting better deals through the players club, I have a couple of questions.

    1. What casino would be in the same level of price of the Riviera? I know Circus Circus is comparable, but way too many kids.

    2. Why wouldn't any other casino pick up the Riviera Players Club points to help their own casino? I really thought with another casino would have made offers to attract the Riviera players. Yes I know that pool of players probably is not that large, but some casinos surely would have liked the new business.

I am heading out to Vegas in the first weekend of October to scout a new place for March Madness (At least that is what I have told my wife :ssst:). She is going along with me.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

Maybe Harrahs or the Flamingo for the price level...

If you're not concerned with walking, The STRAT is not bad at all. I like it there at the Strat and I really disliked the Riviera. The lower end hotels are disappearing on the Strip.

What about off strip? Should be cheaper and smaller crowds for MM.

Agree with trying offstrip. Westgate came to mind but I really don't know much about it's affordabilty. Many are hoping it maintains the sportsbook they inherited. Otherwise if cheap is what you need first, try Gold Coast. You do make a good point on the players club. Either the old or new owners should have sold the data. Most casinos won't just continue to offer you the same types of offers but they would at least start mining the data and sending out something.

Harrahs is where I stay lately I would think it would be comparable to the price of the Riv. Used to stay at the Stratosphere the rooms are pretty nice and not that expensive (as long as that location doesn't bother you). I have never stayed downtown, but that maybe a lower cost option or Sam's Town or Silver Sevens.....

Did you see the posters other preference? "Also, the Riv great viewing of the games with not a lot of people crowded into a room"

Regardless of price of the hotel, the Westgate is going to be one of the more crowded places to watch the games, even moreso now with the sportsbook renovations, which will make it even more popular.

If your uncles don't ming going way off the strip, Sam's Town might be a good choice. They built a new sports book there a few years ago - very spacious and comfortable......

I was a big fan of The Riv, but its sports book was very small, I think it was run by William Hill with one clerk on duty. It seemed kind of dead and reminded me of a small off track betting joint.

The one at the Plaza is actually kind of nice... way better than anybody else downtown.

El Cortez! Sports book is no worse than the Riviera and the rooms and gambling are some of the best values in Vegas!
