I was wondering if casinos/pit bosses/suits ever try to break a heater?

In Blackjack, apparently, if card counting is suspected, more decks can be added, card shuffling after every hand etc.

Does this happen in craps to? Even if dice control was possible, it's harder to prove than card counting I reckon?

Have you ever been asked to change dice or move position at the table?
Have limits ever been lowered to lessen casino loss?
Did you ever see them forcing someone away?

I was wodnering specifically because of heaters such as the one of Patricia DeMauro (?) at Borgata, she rolled for 154 times.
(She declines to say what she won, what would be your guesstimate?)

    http://www.theborgata.com/press/press-releases/archive/craps-record

I've never played Craps so I'm not sure of the table limits? But surely there are high limit tables where you can bet tens of thousands, thereby eventually putting the casino at risk of losing millions after a crazy heater. They are rare but do happen?

One of the many notorious qualities of the Casino Royale. Back in the day, this girl was killing it. Then her boyfriend followed the win pattern. The dice had to be changed not once, but twice in an hour. They took a good amount of time, which was fishy...

    God, I hate that place...

With Craps there are small things that they do to hopefully stop heaters. Some pit bosses will become more particular, harassing you to make sure that both of the dice hit the far side of the table. Some boxmen will stop play by examining the dice to make sure they aren't rigged. They also will try to slow down play by bringing in more chips. Supposedly you should be able to throw around the chip count after a minute or so but on heaters they sometimes completely stop play until all the chips are counted and placed in the proper area. They sometimes change dice with the hope that it will stop any more heaters.

Usually on heaters the table will be completely filled so no way they can move you or anyone else. I never saw them lower limits on maximum bets but I have seen them raise the table minimums. I also have seen them turn away some people who try to force their way onto a hot table, some people try to get in on the action by forcing their way, one guy even moved right into the area where the shooter was (he stepped back to watch the payouts). Usually the players or the pit crew will tell the guy that the table was filled but sometimes these guys can get a bet in even though there is no room.

Usually one of the only ways of stopping heaters is to try to disrupt the rhythm of the game with the hope the shooter craps out.

Not really. They take steps to stop cheating, but a "heater" is just variance in favor of the player. It always evens out to the casino's side. So the idea that the casinos take steps to slow down play is ridiculous. They are only hurting their bottom line by doing so.

The best roll I ever had (lasted over an hour) was years ago at the Flamingo on a super hot July afternoon. Over a half hour into the roll, a blast a hot air hit the table from a vent in the ceiling. I looked at the guy next to me and we joked that the casino was trying to drive people away from the casino and we had a good laugh about that.

The rhythm itself gets interrupted by the bets on the table. Say it takes 40 seconds to pay off one throw of the dice after 5 minutes of one hand it can take minutes to pay off the same throw after 40 minutes because there will be many additional bets for much larger amounts on the table. I'm with UK on this, casino won't stop the heater, the dice don't need that much help.

Actually I have seen it occur. On a hot table at the fremont a few years ago the shooter wasn't hitting the back end with both dice. Female (Asian) pit boss started ragging on her, saying that the roll won't count if she didn't hit the back end with BOTH dice. The female shooter was hitting the back end most of the time but every so often one die didn't hit the back end (maybe once every 8 rolls) so we were confused why the pit boss was ragging on the shooter. Then after one die didn't hit the back end the pit boss got a hold of the dice and for a minute or two they examined the dice but put them back in play when they didn't find anything wrong.

What was weird was that the shooter had thrown before and she was never harassed when she didn't hit the back wall on that roll.

Anyway we could all tell that the pit boss looked stressed that we were on a heater so we did something to piss her off more. After the shooter crapped out all of us on the table passed the dice....back to the shooter. The pit boss didn't catch that and the shooter again started to throw a lot of numbers. Pit boss was turning a shade of red and when the shooter crapped out again the pit boss said "no more or else we will close down the table". All of us colored out, many taking their chips instead of coloring out on the table and the table was deserted in a few minutes.

Thats such a terrible story, gosh, unbelievable, that casino was just looking to rob you guys. Was the point of not coloring up to get revenge? How much were they loosing, lots of chips laid out?

Dice hitting the back wall is to counter controlled shooting or dice sliding. That's not unusual at all. It has nothing to do with a hot shooter. The supervisor wasn't trying to slow down the game. Sounds like she was concerned about dice manipulation. That's not a heater

There are some pit bosses that are more superstitious than players. And many act like it's their money you're winning not the casino's.

Pit critters at Binions can be real assholes for winning not even on a heater. My 2 buddies and I were playing and over the course of 20 rolls I hit 3 points maybe $100 on the table. Pit man was screaming at me about slowing down the game but seriously I was only taking 5 seconds to throw each roll. Dealers were all Asian and looked down at the the table the entire time never lifting their heads. Once the seven came everyone colored up and left a once full table empty. Pit critter was trying to hurry me up instead of slowing down the game, as a result I'm up a couple hundred lifetime at Binions plus a free drink and I've never returned.

I've been told to stop throwing the dice so high on a heater. Its funny how they tell you all these weird things only after you've shot for 10 minutes. Ive seen psos where the shooter never made the back wall and they never had a problem with it. I also hate the dreaded dice leaning on chips and they'll call it a 7 out but never in your favor if you're on a heater. Just my observations.

I've seen it happen a lot in Reno
Friendly box man once told me they get yelled at if the crap table dumps during their shift.
Also, they bring in other pitbosses who are "coolers" to stand around the table.

Well, I accept I am in the minority on this subject. But all I can say is that I have thrown heaters and been at the table when other shooters were on a hot streak and I have never seen any casino employee try to slow the game down or disrupt it. Probably because, you know, the odds of rolling a seven do not change whatsoever because the game is slowed down or disrupted.

Wow - I didn't think it was possible for anybody to be more superstitious than craps players.... :)

Flamingo last year on the same day CEC filed bankruptcy. Young college kid on a heater trying to hit his 5th point on a full table, all the shananegons with changing dealers and slowing the game. There was about 100.00 in fire bets.
Pit boss comes in and raises table minimum to 15.00. You could tell the pit boss felt bad but not his call. We called BS to him and tell him he know that's wrong. Kid 7s out and we were able to convince everyone to color up and leave.

I'm one who believes that they will try to disrupt a rhythm or get you out of your groove so to speak. (when on a heater).

I'm not imagining this. Countless times on my craps sessions when the table is cold or choppy the dealers have no problem taking your buy-in money while the game is in play. But when you are on a heater, well, that's a different story. As soon as someone steps up to buy-in you'll see the stickman grab the dice with the stick and hold it in the middle of the table while the dealer takes care of the new buy-in. Unbelievable. But true.

Like I said earlier. Anything to disrupt your rhythm or groove. I even had the boxman sneak up behind me on a packed table and as soon as I was about to throw, he asks me, "mind if this woman plays next to you?". :grrr::faint::thumbsdown::bang:

I'll second that and add that for the few heaters I've been on the dealers have never seemed to want to cool the table as the tips start flowing more freely after a few numbers or hard ways hit and the player's excitement builds.

If you don't believe in rythm shooting, then nothing the casino does can be taken as an attempt to cool your heater.

I've never seen any of this stuff at strip casinos.

The longer the roll, the more likely it is that some normal procedure (like restocking chips) is going to just happen to occur.

Box warning the shooter about hitting the wall is just protecting the game and could just be because the shooter's annoying. I barely hit the wall, a lot of times at least one die won't hit the wall and I've never been warned.

Anything they do to "slow down the game" just makes the heater last longer.
