Oysters

My sister is heading to Las Vegas in October and likes oysters. I've been to Vegas about 30 more times than she has but I don't like seafood so I have no idea what to recommend. Any ideas? She likes "oyster bars" whatever that is.

Are any of the ones at Station Casinos any good?

 

The Oyster bar at Palace Station is very good!! I dont know if i would make a special trip over there though. The one at Harrahs is good as well.

 

I just got back this weekend and there's a place about a mile off strip called Hot and Juicy Crawfish. Zagat rated and the price is better than what you would get on the strip. The one we went to was on the same block as the TMT gym.

 

Do not go to the oyster bar at Harrahs. Disgusting, old. Number one place is oyster bar at palace station.

 

In my opinion, the oyster bar name at the Station Casino properties is a misnomer. I think most people go there for the pan roast. I'm not a fan of the bigger and briny oysters they normally have there. I will stick to my kumamotos and kushis. Check out the raw bar at Bouchon or Milo's if that is what you desire.

 

Ok we were gonna eat at oyster bar at harrahs in a couple of weeks but this one really negative comment is giving me pause?

Any other folks eat there and can chime in?

 

Yeah, I don't know where the criticism comes from. I note that he/she didn't cite anything specific. I will post more later but I was pleased.

Harrahs Oyster House

Had lunch there on a Tuesday.

It's a "seat yourself" kind of place I was there at 11:30

I had the Manhattan Clam chowder and the New England Shellfish Boil.

The Manhattan Clam Chowder was excellent, considering that I only had Campbell's to compare it to. Otherwise, I have only had New England Clam chowder. For those of you not familiar with the difference, New England, or white is milk/cream based. Manhattan, or red, is tomato based. I like to put hot sauce in mine to give it a little "kick".

The New England Shellfish Boil was quite a meal, I couldn't quite finish it, but my late Momma would have been proud because I ate all the meat (Andouille Sausage) and shrimp before I stopped. I always remember her telling me to make sure that if I was full and couldn't eat another bite, that I at least ate the meat.

Clams, mussels, crab claws, shrimp, red potatoes, Andouille sausage, and a small corn on the cob boiled in an ale broth. The broth wasn't quite strong enough to drink by itself, so I'm glad that I had soup.

All in all, a very nice lunch. Was it a $40 lunch? Probably not, but

 

The "bigger" oysters are the gulf oysters.

We absolutely loved Big Alʻs Oyster Bar at The Orleans when we were there in May.

 

I updated my previous post with a review.

 

According to Las Vegas Advisor, the big oyster deal in town at this time is at Other Mama's, 3655 S. Durango. Oysters are $1 each...blue points.
Now the logistics. If you usually have a car in LV, just drive there for lunch one day. If you don't have a car, compare $26/doz at Harrah's and $12/doz at Other Mama's. You save $14/doz. If you each split 3 doz oysters, it will pay for you to rent a car for the day. What fun! You can take the day to visit all of the Off-Strip casinos and places you never usually get to see. Just sayin'

db Brasserie in the Venetian has a daily oyster hour in the bar & lounge from 5-6PM that includes west coast oysters for $1 each. This is in addition to the
regular happy hour that runs 3-6PM.

A recent issue of the LVA mentioned a relatively new restaurant called Other Mama (3655 S. Durango) that serves $1 Blue Points nightly for as long as they last.
Fanny Bays for $2 and Kumamotos for $2.50 are also available.

McCormick & Schmicks has $1 oysters and shrimp in the bar on Wednesdays from 5PM to close.

 

Love them Kumamoto oysters! Funny thing is my mom was born and raised in Kumamoto Japan and I never knew about until I had it in a sushi bar a few years ago

 

Been to the one at Harrahs a couple of times and the oysters have always been good. The clams are also very tasty.

 

Oyster bar at palace station. Get the pan roast and dozen oysters. Also oysters are happy hour prices from 2am to 5am I believe

 

I am following this thread- we too love to get oysters in Vegas however everything we have found on the strip so far was small west coast oysters- we are "Gulf Cost" oyster people... Any suggestions of Gulf oysters on the strip preferably? Thanks!
