    My Trip Report

I won't bore you with all the details but on the outbound, we were supposed to arrive in Vegas at 10AM but didn't get there until after 9PM that night..I usually travel to Vegas alone but my wife has gone along the last two trips. The first one was back in April and I had a one-bedroom suite for the week at Trump International. They don't advertise it anywhere inside or outside but Trump sold a number of units to Hilton Grand Vacations Club so there are timeshare units inside Trump. The cost was under $200 to book a week at Trump using one of our timeshares; I looked up the cost online to book directly with Trump and they wanted $500+ per night for a one-bedroom two-bath unit since it was fight week in Vegas. So my wife decided to go with. The place is awesome; the master bathroom was about the size of a studio apartment.

So fast forward to July. I had a two-bedroom reserved at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club strip location (across from SLS, just North of Circus Circus). Since I had a two-bedroom this time I told her she could bring along the two grandkids if she wanted and they did come with.

By the time we got to the timeshare and to bed on Saturday night, it was after midnight when I looked at the clock. It really shouldn't have taken over 3 hours to grab the luggage, stop at In & Out on Sahara, and get settled in the room...After I got up on Sunday I ran over to the grocery store so they'd have something there to eat and headed over to Aliante for a late breakfast and some PaiGow Poker. The only difference in the "brunch" Aliante has at the buffet on Sunday is that you can have either breakfast or lunch items and some champagne..for a higher cost.

In the afternoon I usually head over to Boulder Station for PaiGow over there. Same this day. I don't recall which day is which, but I do know that all I did was contribute to the bottom line at Boulder Station all three days; didn't win anything decent at PaiGow. At Aliante, I did get a Straight Flush one day and 4-of-a-kind the following day so I did better there.

Monday night we went to Paris for the buffet for dinner. They charge full price for kids so they really made out considering the two kids (10 and 13) barely ate anything (one plate each with not too much on it) but did both try a freshly-made crepe for dessert.

Wednesday morning we headed for the airport at 4:00AM and here's where this trip really turned to crap... Grandma & the girls were following me South on I-15 to the Airport and I look in the rearview mirror to make sure they're still behind me and I see their car spinning like a top one lane over & getting creamed every so often by an 18-wheeler...the 18-wheeler had clipped the rear of their car & thrown it in front of the truck. I got off I-15 at the next exit & went back. By the time I came back around, I-15 was jammed up as they were pushing the car through the 2 express lanes and over to the shoulder. I was able to pull over in front of the 18-wheeler & park. I walked back to the car & the 10-year-old was bawling her eyes out....but not because she was hurt....but because she had lost her cellphone (it turned out she left it in the room)...the car was a mess on the driver's side, but amazingly they didn't have a scratch and the airbags had NOT deployed..the thing was actually still driveable...so after about an hour & a half on the side of I-15 while the Highway Patrol did an accident investigation (they determined that the truck driver was at fault) we headed slowly to the rental car center to return the cars.

Our flight left while we were at the rental car center so we didn't fly home till the following day. My reservation for the timeshare still had several days so I called the front desk at HGVC and they said we could return & stay in the same unit for that night since they had not cleaned it (still many hours before check-out time). We took a cab back to the timeshare and the wife & girls spent all day in the rooms. They didn't want to go anywhere, no even to the pool. Breakfast, lunch & dinner for them were all from the deli at HGVC.

Since I didn't have a car, I walked over to SLS and did my gambling for the day over there. I signed up for a slot club card and got $125 in free play. I walked away with about $65 cash from that but used it at the Pai Gow table and it went right back to SLS along with another 50 out of my pocket.

I took a cab to Wynn for dinner since I didn't want deli food again..At the Wynn buffet, a group of 3 20-something girls at the next table each brought back a dinner plate full of desserts (one of them had TWO full dinner plates of desserts). The girls said they'd have gone to Wynn with me if they knew they could just eat plates of desserts for dinner....too bad, too sad.

We did get home the following day but the girls both decided they will never set foot in Las Vegas again..

Glad to hear that everyone is OK. That had to be the scariest moment for you. Hopefully future trips will go better and that eventually the grandkids will reconsider another trip.

Maybe I should change the title to Worst AND luckiest trip ever...that they didn't all wind up in the hospital was a real miracle...

The driver's side of the car was wiped out from bumper-to-bumper....the other 3 sides had no damage..when we took it back to the rental car center, the guy checking it in was over on the passenger's side and until he walked over to the driver's side, it all looked good...then an "oh crap" as he saw the totaled side. I assume that they will total it out; my wife got a letter a week ago that if anyone wanted to inspect it they needed to do it by September 8 as it would either be sold or repaired at that time. I'm expecting sold, as it has just been sitting in their lot for over a month now..Not sure if the trucker's commercial insurance company will try to weasel out of paying anything since the cops said it was his fault; our insurance said that the commercial companies rarely pay out but it was obviously the trucker's fault - you could see a dent in front of the rear bumper where he first clipped her..

    Lucky is more like it!
Crazy that it spun around while being on rubber; usually it flips THEN spins

That is a scary situation. Glad your wife and the girls got out safe. Can understand why the girls never want to go to Vegas again.

My last accident was clipping a tractor trailer and spinning across a grass median. Definitely scary. Glad everyone was okay. It sounds like their accident was worse than mine. I didn't get hit after the initial contact to send me spinning thank god.

Sucks that the casino was rough on you as well. :(

The I15 trafic is CRAZY. It's a 70 mph speed limit along the strip, you have the cabs, tourists gawking, stupid drivers from California , the serious tailgaters and then the big semis also...
