School breaks?

Forgive me... I'm English!

I was just wondering what school breaks children have in USA, if any, in October? I'm going 5-15 and hoping that there'll be minimal kids cluttering up the place!

I googled and only found Colombus Day so does that mean it's a long weekend and there'll be more families in Vegas?

Probably not more than normal I would imagine.

 

Most schools don't even get C Day off. Doesn't mean there won't be bunches of rugrats around. Just mostly the pre-school ones.

 

I've never noticed it being bad over the Columbus Day weekend.

Unfortunately, Mandalay Bay does draw more people with kids due to the pools. It's not terrible, by any means (IMO). But there are definitely more kids there than any other place I've stayed.

My son has a week off in October. It is called Fall Break/Recess. A lot of schools are starting to do it.

 

Which week is that?

Over here in the UK I think they get too much time off

A week in Oct
2-2.5 weeks over Xmas
A week in Feb
2-2.5 weeks at Easter
A week in May/June
Then 6/7/8 weeks over summer.

I think the only full month they do is November. Plus they get all Bank Holidays off school too (not sure if you have those in America?)

 

Wow that's a lot of days off. Regarding fall break, Wikipedia says "Autumn or Fall Break - Usually lasts for one week in October (in the week of Columbus Day)."

I wouldn't worry too much about those dates. Some schools do have a fall break but some don't and some have them different weeks.

 

Most schools in the US have off Martin Luther King day off now, so the kids don't get Columbus day off anymore.

 

My wife works for the school system here. They have a long weekend for Columbus day but thats it for October. I wish she did have a week off so we could go to Vegas again.

 

Everyone has different school calendars. It used to be the norm for one day off for a three day weekend. For most folks, it's not enough time to plan a getaway, let alone a trip to Vegas.
