I know the basics of craps and have done well in the past but have trouble with the math so I am hoping for some help

If bet on all the place bets at $5 each ($6 for 6 and 8) how many times do I have to press the bets until I get up to the max of $1000. If I do a hard press how much faster will that happen? When I first started doing it this way (thanks to another poster) I was confused as I was saying I wanted to press my bet but they were still giving me chips. I was really getting confused when the shooter rolled a 4 or a 10.

I figure I am putting out either $26 or $27 out to begin with and if I get onto a table with a good shooter I think I can do really well.

If you are betting $5 and you win and ask to press, the dealer will add $5 to your bet and give you the rest of the winnings. Now you are betting $10 and if you win and tell the dealer to press your bet he will put either $5 or $10 on the bet depending on what you tell him, and give you the rest, now you have a $15 0r $20 bet It would be near impossible to go from a $5 to press up to a $1000. Hope this makes sense and helps you. Someone else might be able to explain in more clearly

place bets don't pay even money=4 and 10 pay $9 to $5, 5 and 9 $7 to $5 and 6 and 8 $7 to $6, but your press or parlay will be increased in multiples of either $5 or $6, so they are giving you the remainder

Also, you are better off buying the 4 and 10 and paying the vig. I might place the 4 and 10 for $10 to start, but buy it for $25 when it hits for the first time and press from there.

When at the table if you ask to press many times they will assume you are increasing the same unit you have been increasing. So a placed 6 or 8 would be 6 then 12 than 18, etc. If you tell the dealer to parlay they will put everything up except the odd dollars so a parlayed 6 or 8 would be 6 than 12 than 24.

    6 or 8 Parlay:
    6 - 12 - 24 - 48 - 102 - 216 - 468 - 1014
I used the extra dollars from payoff to place the maximum amount.
    It would take 7 parlays.

The only one you won't get chips back on a press is the 4 and 10 if you buy.

The payout is 2 to 1 so the full press goes back.

But honestly if you start at $5 and full press every single time until $1k, you're almost guaranteed to go broke before you ever win anything.

It will take you 8 hits on the inside or 5 hits on the outside before you see any real money back.

The odds of that are next to nil.

I've seen some pretty awesome rolls but not sure if I've ever seen that many.

Also the places I play have a $5k max, I believe.

Question on this, I usually place $10 on the 4 or 10 and go up a unit on each hit, until I get to 5 units, the dealer always asks me (when I am going up from the fourth to the fifth unit) if I want to buy it, I always say yes but I forget to look at the remainder I get back since the table usually has a lot of action going on by that time. If I wanted to buy the 4 or 10 straight from the outset how much do I throw down over the $25 to cover the vig? 1 dollar, 5 dollars?

If it is a decent casino you only pay the vig if you win. But the vig on $25 is $1.

    5 press to 10
    10 press to 20
    20 press to 40
    40 press to 80
    80 press to 160
    160 press to 320
    320 press to 640
    640 press to 1280.

The odds of hitting the same number 8 times before crapping out is highly unlikely. Although it would be cool to see.

I remember betting $5 on a 5 or 9 and eventually getting a couple greens on it. By then it was screw the point. Hit that 5 or 9.

I know at CET in vegas, you pay the vig ($1/25 bet) when it hits. Caesars Windsor takes the vig upfront. When your $10 place bet on 4 or 10 hits, buy it for 25. The dealer will give you 3 change.

Thanks for showing me the numbers. The reason I bring this up is I have been on a table were the shooter would make the point and when the next number was established (say 5) then my bet gets moved to the previous number. Now there are times when I will take the win then press so I don't loose everything but when the table is hot I want to get in to as much action as possible. Once I needed to roll a 10 but hit 4 times in a row and 6 five times before making the point. Even if I had 7'ed out I would still be ahead.

I've had the eight hit nine times before big red reared his ugly head, twice - once at Encore (RIP, Wynncore craps:cry:) and once at Mardi Gras casino in Charleston, WV. And I'm only a "part-time" craps player. I'm sure hardcore dice players have seen far crazier shit.

My Vegas pressing routine is as follows:

    60-90-120-180-270-390-540-720-930-1170

Both times I made it up to $1170, the shooter then hit the point and the next come out came up eight. Since I already had plenty of action on the six, I took the bet down both times. Once, it was a very prescient move as the very next roll would have done me in. Once, the six (which could have had my "eight money" on it) was hit a few times before the party finally ended.

With me I normally do Come bets instead of place bets. I'll start out with 2x odds, then up it by 1 unit every time it hits. So, if I'm betting $5, I'll take the winnings, and make the odds $15. I've maxed out the odds quite a few times on the strip since they normally only do 3-4-5. But, at like The D or GG, I've gotten up to the 10x odds a few times. At that point I kind of hope that they don't hit the point, and just keep hitting numbers.

Down side to doing come bets is you can't up your original bet. So, you're locked in. Unless I start upping the amount I put out for my come bet.

Most casinos will allow you to increase your come bet If it has already moved to a number. If not you can always place that number in addition to your come bet with odds.

On come bets, once you've maxed your odds, say you've got $5 come and $50 odds (10X odds table) make your come bet $10, then you will not be "off and On". Your winning come bet will be paid, your $10 new come bet will move to the number and then you can put up to $100 odds.

There is often confusion between the term "press" and the term "parlay". For example, if you bet a $6 place on the 8, and it hits, and you press, the bet goes up one unit. The basic unit is $6. Now you have $12 on the 8. If it hits again and you say "press", the dealer will again press your bet up one unit, or $6 more dollars, so your bet will now be $18 and he will give you $8. If, however, you tell the dealer to "parlay" your bet, he will increase it as much as he can, so he will increase the bet $12, give you $2, so you will end up with a $24 bet on the 8.

Say the 8 hits again. If you had "pressed", your $18 bet will now pay $21. So if you tell the dealer to press again, he will increase your bet one unit, or $6 to $24 and return $15 to you. On the other hand, the parlay bet, now at $24 will pay $28. If you parlay again, $24 will be added to your bet, making your bet $48. $4 will be returned to you.

I hope this makes sense to you.

Really? I haven't played craps for a few years, but every time I pressed my bets it was a full press. If I wanted to go up one unit, that's what I would say. They only time parlay ever entered the picture was when I'd hit a hard way and wanted it all out there.

Have things changed? This seems kind of odd...

I'm with you. I parlay my hard ways. I'm full press on my place bets.

Yeah. I've literally never seen a dealer NOT double your bet and toss you the remainder when you say, "press it" - unless you tell them "one unit" or a specific $ amount. Whether or not "press" is the correct terminology, I don't know. I just know that's how they'll do it.
