This is located just east of El Co and north of the Container Park on 8th and Ogden. My son is looking for a place to stay the first weekend in October but most every where downtown is booked up (or appears to be booked). I think GN is the only place that has rooms but the price is way up there. If you have had any personal experience or know someone who has had personal experience with the Downtowner, let me know what your insights are. And yes, he did look at Trip Advisor and I think Travelocity for reviews and they seemed favorable!

Have to laugh. I stayed at this place 15 years ago and never expected to see it mentioned here.. It was a pretty nice room but the property and area is the complete opposite of the Strip

I was wondering the same thing.
It looks like a block from el cort.
How bad can it be? Too each there own, every thread about imperial palace was negative but that was my go to hotel and although it wasnt 5 stars i never had a problem.

The only thing that worries me is its a motel, and I would be scared that anyone can simply break in and steal something.

User, I am also worried about that (break-ins) along with the walk to the hotel. I know it is only a block from ElCo, but there are vacant lots around and that area looks borderline sketchy!

Take a look at in on goolge street view.

it actually looks better from the outside then I thought it would.

I say yes, he should stay there and then let us know how it went.

They have some pics on trivago, looks renovated and pretty decent .

Five years ago I wouldn't have stood on that corner in broad daylight. Now I can walk to the Atomic Café and visit a dog park across from the Western! I don't know if they have improved the interior of the Downtowner, but the exterior looks much nicer. Just curious, how much cheaper per night is that place?

FullPay, I think they are charging around $30 a night with a $5 resort fee, even though they are not a casino! Go figure...!

Wow! Didn't even imagine this place would still exist. I stayed there for (part of) one night almost 20 years ago. I had like a 12 hour layover in Vegas before flying home and wanted to find a cheap room I could rent out on a Saturday night. Back then, most places frowned on booking just a Saturday night, requiring you to stay Friday and Saturday. Found this place on EASSY SABRE I think it was called and booked it. Room was OK for what it was. Neighborhood was still pretty creepy back then. Yes, very close to the El Cortez but it didn't really feel like it. Bars on the door and you had to leave a "key deposit" when you checked in. I think it was $30 or so at the time. I say go for it. Has to be safer than back then and they've probably changed the sheets and carpet too.

Well I don't know what is going on the first weekend in October, but suddenly the Downtowner is sold out!! Looks like we will have to find an alternative and more expensive choice.

The thing that put me off is on the reviews I read mentioned that the rooms have a nasty smoke smell. Im not as picky as smoke non smokers, but ill never forget when checking into linq and asking for a room alway from the construction, I was put in a smoking room....

Yeah I saw those reviews also. Big turn off! At this time, this is a moot point. With them being booked for that weekend, I ended up calling the Four Queens. I had no idea that I had 2 comped nights coming to me so I booked them for my son. I am also paying for one extra night for him because he is staying 3 nights. This all worked out really well!

I've never stayed there but I have never liked the looks of it. I actually remember it from my first trip in the 70s, and it's that old. I always assumed it was part of the old Downtowner/Rountowner chain, which was quite decent in its time, but the place in LV always looked very downscale compared to the others in the chain.
