4 Queen were renovating the rooms in the small halls in the south tower. I asked if they were expanding the rooms, the answer was no. I saw the work on 2 floors.

Last time I stayed there a little over a year ago, they started re-doing the suites. Of course it was right after I was in one... hope there isn't a link there.

Unless something changed very recently, I think it is giving them much too much credit to use the word "renovation" for what is going on. As has been reported recently, they were replacing the mattresses, and likely a couple of pieces of furniture, and bedding. That's a refresh not a renovation. If you were to look at the rooms done vs the ones not done, most people wouldn't even see a difference unless they knew what they were looking for.

Last year they did a similar thing with the suites. They removed the old couches, many of which had holes in them, got rid of the bedspreads (probably 10 years old each), replaced a lamp, and also the coffee table in front of the couch. In my mind, that is maintenance, not a remodel. The same peeling wallpaper is still there, same carpet, same 32 inch LCD TVs, same 1980's fixtures in the bathrooms, etc.

This is the Four Queens, we don't do remodels!

When we were there in July, they were renovating. I think maybe this time it's a little more than just new mattresses. It would be nice to see some wallpaper gone and some new paint put on.

I'm just glad to hear the reno's are still going on. There is hope!

They also don't do resort fees.

If they actually fix the plumbing so the shower/tub drains, I might stay there again - and if they replace the mattresses. And properly renovate the bathrooms and get rid of that ugly Alfred Hitchcock tilework. And redo the wallpaper, and the wallboard underneath, replace the carpets, all the other furniture, the light fixtures, and the HVAC system.

    Yeah, that's the ticket.

To have THE one and only Flusher stay there? I'm sure they'll get right on it. I mean, they don't want to make your 10's of fans upset.

IKR? They oughta have a seat reserved at the Mikes bar for me. After they rename it the Mikes bar.

They DID replace the suite porno-couches after I blogged about them, so maybe they are catering to my every whim. Or maybe those couches crawled out on their own.

What floors are they doing the work on? Are these regular rooms or Suites or both? I am curious to know because I just booked a room there for 3 nights at the beginning of October.

They replaced some furniture in the suites 6-8 months ago. I think its the regular rooms in the South tower that are being worked on.

Thanks Flusher. I think I will ask for one of these rooms when I check in. All they can do is say no, or charge a little more!

I think the latter. But, at least the suites have a fridge.

I just returned last week after a week downtown playing VP, including 3 nights at the Four Queens. I was in the south tower on the 9th floor, and the shorter wing (with ice/soda machines) was closed on my floor, as well as at least several floors above and below from what I could see from my window. I rode the elevator with a gal from engineering, and asked about the renovations. She said they included a full bath remodel, and I heard a guest comment that he peeked into a room undergoing work and saw the bath was torn out to the pipes.

So, maybe they are putting a few dollars into this project. After my stay, they can certainly afford it--in over 15 years I've never lost so much playing (mostly) positive (mostly) $0.25 VP. If I find the courage to go over my results I may post a cautionary trip report. . .

I rarely sit next to an interesting person on an airplane. On the way to Vegas I sat next the wife of Terry Caudill's right hand man at Four Queens. I talked to her about a lot of things but relevant to this conversation... the renovations are true renovations but not intended to be luxurious. Basically, a complete refresh and the process will take a lot of time. I asked her about the HVAC situation and that is apparently not in scope as the cost of that overhaul is very high. They have explored opening the rooms at Binion's and, as has been much speculated, they have some asbestos issues. They were aware of that at time of purchase but the real issue is that they want a long term solution to the land lease deals before sinking "real" money into that property.

Another interesting tidbit is that they are well aware of how good their VP and comp situation is in relation to well informed and skilled players. She said the word of mouth advertising is well worth the "investment" they are making in their best players. Their studies have shown that most new clients are there because of recommendations from a friend. They cut back on advertising and left VP mostly untouched and have talked about improving pay tables on some machines. The logic is that nobody believes advertising regarding slot machine returns but the buzz around the overall payout percent gains a life of its own.

That was long winded but I am hoping the room renovations are actually nice. I decided on this trip that I am done staying there until the rooms are nicer. Love the free play but there are too many other places to stay that feel better. Not sure how else to put that but a lot of little things add up to an unpleasant room situation. I will likely change my mind when they throw in another $50 in free food with my next stay.....

Just a fyi, the free play offer is loaded on your card for that particular month whether you check in or not. I used to always double book until I found out it is unnecessary.

A pit boss at 4 Queens told me the same thing about the lease issues, it's been a few years but I think he said there's 3 or 4 separate properties under Binion's name.

We're paying to stay at the Cal next trip, rather then stay there or at the D. I thought we found a new home at DTG but after putting 10 to 15k on my wife's card per day last trip, they want us to pay full price for weekends. I'll take a chance on getting it comped on the back end

I knew about the freeplay. My last offer was $300 free play and $50 in food. To use the food you have to do a room charge. That is what I meant by the food portion of the comment. It will be interesting to see what my next offer looks like. I have been putting through $5-$8k per day for 2-3 days. This time I did one day with close to $11k. If food is included, I might do the double booking thing. I've never cared for the rooms and this time was worse.

Do you not like the D? My biggest complaint there is how early the coffee shop closes. I played some at DTG hoping for an offer but given the current state of things I doubt that will happen. I know you guys liked the property and my wife is always looking for a good pool at the places I am willing to play. By the way, the pool at the D is terrible.
