Doing this line by line to follow easier.

Landed at LAS today at 12:30.
    Took a cab to Cosmo.
Got my bags and paid the cabbie.
    Took bags to bell desk.
Realized left my backpack on cab ($3800 cash, all debit and credit cards and ID except drivers license and one CC, prescription medication, laptop). I had license CC and $100.
Ran around Cosmo cab area. He was gone.
Got # of cab company from another driver. Wife thought she remembered cab #.
Called cab company several times over next 90 minutes along with Cosmo security confirming cab # through surveillance.
final say was that cabbie left Cosmo, turned in car and left. Security with cab company searched car to find nothing.
I asked them to call driver, said they don't contact drivers after they leave.
Told them I'd call police, they said there was nothing they could do.
Took cab to police station next to Bali Hai golf.
On the way wife was canceling cc and debit cards.
Once in police station wife realizes she left wallet in cab. No Shit!
Filed police report only because cab company wouldn't call cabbie, while wife was trying to contact cabbie about her wallet.
At this point between the two of us we had one ID, one CC and $100
Had police call us a cab back to Cosmo.
While waiting outside, got a call from first cab company that they had my bag with all cash and everything in it!
Took the cab to cab office and got bag.
While getting bag wife got call from second cabbie that he had her wallet.
He delivered wife's wallet to cab company and took us to Cosmo !

Crazy first day for us. We realize how stupid we were and how lucky we are.
If you ask anyone we know we are the most organized couple they know. I don't know what happened today.

I remember missing my i.d. for a brief 20 mins once in Vegas and how frantic I was. Can't imagine the stress you must of had. Good fortune the rest of the trip now!

OMG what a nightmare start to a nice holiday. My money and ID is always attached to my person as I have horrible dreams before each trip that I lose everything in various different scenarios. I'm sure your luck will now change and a fabulous trip is ahead of you.

I did that once...moving between hotels in Vegas. Our destination was palazzo and when I went to checkin, realized I'd left purse in cab. Got really ticked that palazzo would not check security video to help me ID the cab; eventually got over it and I now stay there again but was pretty furious at the time that they wouldn't help me. Had no idea what cab number was or even what cab company was. After about 3 stressful hours, got call from the cabbie who'd found purse and hence my ID. Got everything back and gave cabbie a big tip. Now I always pay more attention when I'm in a cab

I was actually quite surprised that the security guy, bell man, and lady at the police station were all genuinely concerned. The security guy did have to call his boss to see if they would even look at the surveillance. The boss approved and I still had to fill out a request form to say why I wanted them to look at the tape.

I'm sure they were just covering their butts.

Hopefully that's all your bad luck out of the way up front. Nothing but hand pays from now on.

Once did something similar on a vaca to Florida, got a cab from our apartment in Florida to Cape Canaveral for a Cruise, left back pack in cab with all money, CC's and passports Doh! :rolleyes2:
Could have ended up stranded in the US never mind missing our cruise. Luckily managed to contact cab co. and they came all the way back from Florida to return back pack and we managed to get on-board cruise ship non the worse except and extra $50 for the cabbie. PHEW! :faint:

I know Uber is not available in Vegas. But this is what would have happened IF you had used Uber: you would have called the driver, since you get his/her contact information, and he/she would have come right back.
Taxi/cabs use antiquated inefficient communications systems. They need to adapt or they will perish.

All my personal info like Passport, DL, CC, and definitely $$$ are with me 100% of the time. I even hold all of it when going through the TSA at the airports.

After reading this my initial reaction was "Dammmnnnnnnnnnnnn (in my best Chris Tucker voice) get your shit together!" But then the judgmental side of me gave way to the compassionate side of me and I'm REALLY glad things turned to well for you folks!

Hope you have a SUPER visit and any and all upcoming "excitement" is surrounding fun stuff and winning the BIG jackpot!!!

I passed along your summary to my wife and said I would probably have had a heart attack. She replied back, it would have been two of them for me.

Wow! So glad things turned out so well, my diaper would have been soiled for sure....

They say things come in three's
    1) you lost all your stuff - returned to you - good result!
    2) your wife left her wallet- returned to her - good result!
    3) now the two of you should go place a bet on your favorite machine or table - PLEASE have an outstandingly good result!
    Y'all deserve it....

Special blessings to those two honest cabbies!

    Reason I don't take cabs.

What a mess. You are very lucky to get everything back.

I have left things in cars. I like the fact. I have the same car on rental so can really check everything on return

Now I remember why I hate cabs. I use to to Vegas and CES and the. AVA was there at the same time.

I had a 35 mm. Camera. Before digital pictures. Back in 90's.

Lost camera. No big deal. Lost rolls of film. With pictures. Very big deal. In cab back to Caesars. No way to find cab.

Since then. Either rental car or person I know to pick up and drop off.

I guess. I can trust the Limo.
