This not Vegas related but happened to me at my local casino.

Bought in at 1-2 no limit table and had been playing about 2hrs and walked outside for a smoke break. Walk back in to the poker room and my table starts going crazy because they hit the bad beat jackpot for 80k. I congratulate the players and the floor comes over and asks me if I want to sit at another table because it will take a while to review the tape. I say yes and get moved to a different table without saying anything more to winning players.

    Would you have:
A: continued at the same table and hoped that the players would share the wealth, because if your dealt in the hand obviously the bad beat does not get hit
B: move to another table and hope they share the wealth
C: make sure they all realize the your were the person that made the bad beat possible and move to another table
    D: none of the above

    Ugh brutal.

I'm not sure which is the best option. Whichever option gets you the most money obviously, but I'm not sure what that is. The floor clearly hinted you get squat from them.

I feel like some mixture of the first 3 is right. I would try to be congratulatory to others (while dying inside) especially to the bad beat winner/loser and hoping the bad beat winner/loser gave me ~50% of a table share from their winnings since they get a boatload vs. the others.

Go to the other table and accept your best chance of getting anything is not mentioning it. Long shot at best.

I would quit smoking as well. It's costing you way too much money.

But seriously, there's nothing you can do unless you were possibly there for the start of the hand in which case you get a share.

If you had stayed and you were already chatting with me and being friendly with the table (prior to the BBJP hit), I probably would have tossed you $100. I'm sure if you were friendly, others would have done the same.

If you moved to another table immediately though: out of sight, out of mind.

I was thinking that too: if the OP was dealt two cards and then when the action is on them they muck their cards and run out for a smoke break and thats the hand that has the bad beat they should get a part of the prize because they were in the hand even if they weren't sitting at the table when the action unfolded.

Actually, I always thought you had to be part of the hand as well... here's a rule from the Borgata poker room that sounds like you don't have to be a part of the hand... everyone receives a share if they haven't missed the blinds before the hand takes place:

I wonder how many other live poker rooms do the same?

The casino I frequent gives a table share if you haven't missed the blinds. I honestly think that's the fairest way to go. This allows people to take breaks between blinds and not miss out.

I hadn't thought of that, but it makes total sense: if I've paid the blinds and then a hand or two later get up and go for a smoke or bathroom break and come back I don't have to pay the blinds unless they came up while I was gone.

Originally, I was just thinking that at my local casino the smoking balcony is not that far from the poker room and a lot of smokers just have their cigarette and lighter in hand until a hand comes up that they are going to fold, then run out and watch through the glass and when the hand is done they stub out and rush back to the table so they don't miss a hand (though this is limit hold 'em so it moves a lot slower, usually, than no limit).

I unfortunately was gone from the table for about 5 minutes, and the rule at Hollywood Columbus is you must be dealt into the hand.

Just another what if situation. It's like saying what if I stayed at that slot for another pull and the person after me wins a jackpot right after I left. He won't share the spoils with you. Sorry, your luck is out. The luck was not in your corner.

    Option D.

I would be livid... I couldn't sit at another table while those guys were whooping it up getting their cut of the bad beat. I think I'd walk away from the tables for awhile. That is the worst luck ever.

    LOL...I'd be losing it.

    C. Smile and be sincerely happy for someone getting lucky at a casino. Be nice when you mention your absence made it possible, but don't expect anything in return. I personally don't think you deserved it. The pit boss was nice to recognize you went to the casino to gamble and playing at another table would let you do it more quickly. That was good customer service.

I would congratulate all and say " it's a good thing that I left the table so that you guys could hIt the bad beat". Then go to another table but ask that yOur seat at the BB table remain open for you to come back to ( no 1 else wants to sit there and watch the $$$$ doled out).

This physically hurt me to read. The Bad Beat hit one table away from me once when I was playing in Atlantic City. Even though I walked away with about $400, I couldn't get over the fact that I had an option to sit at that table (I know, technically if I sat there it wouldn't have happened, etc etc).

I would've stayed and congratulated, but with low expectations. I do enjoy being in the presence of people winning boatloads of cash even if it pains me with jealousy.

I would move, and not particularly expect a sharing of the wealth. Weirder things have happened, but I am not going to argue retroactive hypotheticals and suggest that people owe me.

Sorry about the bad break though. That would be incredibly frustrating. In fact, come to think of it, decent chance I would color up and walk it off.

March 2011 borgata. Playing 1-2 all night. Up 1.3k. 4am I step about 5 paces away from the table to call to get the room for the night since I was tired. It was 4am.
Second hand missed they hit the Bbj for 150k. (Before they had big/small).
I was obv not happy since table share was 8k. I was about to rage quit when the floor and a few other players said stay.

Every other player who hit all gave a minimum of $100 and the winner gave $600. I ended up with about 1.4k from Bbj. I obv tipped dealer too. I thought that was awesome since no one had to do that.
I never asked for the money and respected everyone's decision. I continue to pay it forward

Side note: one kid it was his first time playing 1-2 ever. 8k helluva win.

I've missed heaters on bathroom breaks. Nobody seems to offer up chips when I return. I'm ok with that.
