Off Strip dining recommendations?

Planning to return to sin city in January, and since it will be a golfing trip for once, this will be my first time having wheels while in Vegas.

Since a rental car on subsequent trips is unlikely, I'd like to take the opportunity to try some of the better restaurants that are off strip (not including downtown).

I have already eaten at Lotus of Siam, and In N Out will undoubtedly happen at some point. Any other suggestions?

 

i usually go to fogo de chao. amazing brazilian steak house. all you can eat steak with a very nice sides/salad bar.

 

Give Bob Taylor's Ranch House a try. Oldest restaurant in the city of Las Vegas. Some very tasty steaks grilled over an open mesquite fire. Lunch isn't bad either.

If it wasn't January, I suggest a trip up to the Lodge at Mt Charleston, but that time of year the weather is too iffy and it'll be cold.

 

If you like Stromboli the Four Kegs(which was on diner drive-in and dives) has great Stromboli. It is a neighborhood bar. We enjoyed it.

Try Blueberry Hill for breakfast.

 

Gangnam Korean across from the hard rock in the CVS plaza. Amazing. I eat there at least twice a trip. It can be a long wait at dinner time. Mothers Korean in china town is pretty good too. A cheap massage after lunch in China town is the perfect hangover helper.

I've never tried their pancakes but I've had several other good meals there!

I would second this recommendation! This puts all of the absentee-celebrity-chef places on the Strip to shame!

If you like old-school Italian, either Chicago Joe near downtown (smallish - get there early) or Bootlegger just south of the south outlet mall.

Jerry's Nugget, an older downscale casino in a very iffy neighborhood, has excellent prime rib! Underrated and often overlooked. Well worth the trip.

I know I'll think of others just after I hit the post button.

 

Lotus of Siam has good Thai food. Had some good Mexican food at Lindo Michoacan in Henderson.

 

Would you guys say blueberry hill is better than dupars? (for pancakes)

 

I like Dupars better than Blueberry Hill.

There are plenty of good eats of the strip.

Rollin' Smoke, El Dorado Cantina, Mr. Mamas, Archi's, Big Wong, Inyo, Yonaka, Komex, Fat Choy, Mariscos Playa Escondido, Korean BBQ & Rolls, Taco y Taco, Bavarian Castle, I Love Sushi, Budda Belly Deli, David Clawson, if there is a particular type of food you're after I can make better suggestions.

 

I would imagine most of our off strip dining will be dinner (he hates breakfast and I am likely to be doing on strip breakfast buffets).

Will also be likely doing a strip steakhouse and ellis island, so steakhouse is likely out.

Based on what I know of my buddys dining preferences (and my own), I'd say recommendations for Italian would be particularly helpful. Seafood could also be a winner, but likely not sushi.

But the reason I kept the question general is I am also curious if anybody has any real MUST experiences that usually require a car or cab ride. Its a vacation and an adventure, so I would try something outside my wheelhouse if its a truly great experience that should not be missed.

 

We usually end up at Casa Di Amore for off-strip Italian. I mentioned it before, as long as you enjoy Mexican, Mariscos Playa Escondido has great seafood. They actually treat shrimp with care, excellent empanadas and aguachiles. I also love their fish tacos, chicharrons and the whole snapper. Family run and a hole in the wall; it's like being at the beach in Mexico, but you never leave the desert.

 

I'm one of the few, apparently, that doesn't like Dupars pancakes, due to them being smothered in some type of fake butter. Others swear by them and think they are the greatest. Blueberry hill (at least the E. Flamingo location) has great pancakes - I think their cinnamon swirl variety are about the best you can get anywhere - you don't even need syrup! Think of them as a Denny's only much better. They've always been extremely busy when we go, but the line moves rapidly. Just don't think that you are headed to some type of fancy place, and you'll love it.

 

Casa Di Amore is our favorite too! great atmosphere!
