I have been a downtown guy for a while now. So I've getting rooms for less than $50/night or even free. I haven't stayed on the strip probably since Harrah's bought the Imperial Palace. I loved the IP pre-Harrah's. In retrospect, the IP was basically a downtown property on the strip. Anyway my friends invited me for an October trip (10/16-10/19) and are staying at the Monte Carlo. I would like to stay there or close to there. However the prices seem very high. The MC is nearly $600 (tax and resort fees included). And the Excalibur is close to $500.

Are these normal prices for the strip?

I am a $10-$15 BJ player (but will increase bets if winning), $5 Craps player pass with full odds, place 6 & 8, and at least 2 or 3 come bets with full odds. Will they even rate me at these levels?

I also play $0.25 video poker (JOB or Bonus). If I had to guess, I probably cycle through $2,000/day. I know I wont find full pay machines at this level. What are the pay tables at $0.25 on the floor or bar?

I also play 2 hrs a day in a poker room.

Based on my play, would I even qualify to get casino rate at one of the lower end MLife properties like Excalibur, Luxor, NYNY, or Monte Carlo? What would casino rate be? Do I just contact a host on one of their websites? I assume Excalibur would be my best bet since it is their lowest end property. Where would you try to stay?

Thinking outside the box, is there a poker rate at one of these properties? How many hours would be needed?

I do not have a MLife card. How much comps (if any) will I earn? Should I wait until I get there to sign up in case they have any bonuses for getting a card. Or should I just sign up on line.

    Thanks in advance.

Mid October tends to be a fairly pricey time in Vegas as temperatures are no longer at torture levels for highs, but are still decent pool weather.

And weekend nights are always WAY pricier on the strip than weeknights.

The prices you are looking at seem pretty typical for those dates.

As to what your play can get you, I would not expect much with no prior MGM history. No harm in asking, but I bet they will just take off any express comps you earn.

I don't know why those dates are so expensive, but as far as casino rate, every time I've been quoted one anywhere (and the last time was at least a couple of years ago), it represented about a 30% - 33% discount off the rack rate.

CET usually comps table players better, which is the majority of your play. mgm favors slot players more.

They also tend to do it only on future trips.

I think his play would get him lower end cet comp nights on weekdays and casino rate on weekends for the most part once he established a history. But on a first stay it would probably only get him whatever he earns in TR credits.

If you hunt around you will find some OK video poker on the strip but not at Monte Carlo. It's a vp wasteland. Check out tring 's vp sticky in the casino gaming section or vpfree2.com.

Thanks for the replies. I got a good deal at Ballys. When combined with my friend's TR card, I got 2 comped nights and 1 at $27. Total with resort fees and tax is $114. I could have saved about $30 if I chose Harrahs (only would have had to pay the 25/nt resort fees), but Ballys is closer to the MC. And all I have to do is walk across the street to the Bellagio to get on the free tram to MC.

Also I called the MC poker room and their poker rate was 30% off regular rates. It would have still cost me over $400. I would have had to play 5 hrs a day in the poker room or 15 hrs total.
