Even when we drive to Vegas we never take the car out. But this time we're doing 3 days strip and 1 downtown. When we drive to downtown, we thought we'd do one of the things we'd always said we'd do but got too lazy (or TBH, drunk) to do. So what should it be? One hour or less from downtown. I was thinking Pinball place or Mob Museum or Neon museum. Anything else?
For 1 hr???? Pinball would be my call. If ya had somewhat of a longer time frame the possibilities are endless
Within an hour of downtown, there are several clusters of locals casinos worth visiting. You could hit two or three that are a short drive apart. Red Rock Canyon is something else to consider. Finally take a look at some of the offstrip restaurants mentioned all over the board. One of the plusses of a car for me is trying new restaurants, some of which are more innovative than what you wil find in a "tourist" area and certainly more affordable.
When we take a car, we like to go out to Red Rock Casino, but then, Vegas isn't about sights and sounds for us, unless those sights and sounds are in a casino. We've also been out to casinos in Henderson and Primm, both of which are an hour away. If I had to see something, I'd go with the neon graveyard to see the history of Vegas. So, extrapolating from that, I'd do with the Mob Museum.
Guess I always have my routine when I go to vegas. Rent a car to get around. Visit the old Belz mall, go out to Henderson and visit the galleria shopping mall. visit Harbor Freight and Trader Joe's. some nights visit the strip clubs. Some days visit the strip.
I really liked Red Rock canyon myself. I assume you meant as long as the drive was within one hour. We took 90 minutes driving through
I've gone from never renting a car to always renting a car. Red Rock is great, Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam. Pahrump has 2 wineries that are fun to go to. About an hour. It's also fun to explore casinos away from the strip and downtown. Red Rock casino is fantastic. Green Valley Ranch, M Resort, Orleans, Southpoint just to name a few. Nice places, great gambling, good value. You can actually park your car and walk in the casino within a minute. Unlike on the strip. Also lots of good restaurants away from the tourist areas. Neon museum is fun, although it's an easy walk from downtown, you don't really need a car if you are already DT.
...most of my LV visits are gambling focused (shocking!). When I/we have a car we will usually plan breakfast at a casino away from our home base (Red Rock, M Resort, GVR, etc.). Get a good meal, join their players club, play some VP, check out the area, only have ONE breakfast beverage then return to our hotel/casino to park the car for the rest of the day...pool time, drinks, lunch, etc.
