    My Trip Report

Flew Southwest from Sacramento on Friday and landed at 10:30am with no delays. Took a taxi from the airport to the Venetian. Driver asked if I wanted to take the tunnel which was a first. I told him I wanted the quickest route. His response was that the tunnel was quicker, but it would be slightly more expensive. Can anyone confirm?

Checked into the Venetian with no problems. This trip was a guys trip with my brother. After checking in we grabbed a quick bite at Grand Lux and then went to the sportsbook and looked at NFL futures. I’ve had the honor (insert sarcasm) of watching my favorite team have a losing record for the last decade plus. But I like the direction they are taking going into 2015. I’ve been a Raiders fan the last 35 years. So we checked out what Venetian odds were on season win totals and then took a limo over to Caesars to see if their NFL future odds were any different. Ended up betting $1000 on the over @ 5.5 wins. I think they can get 6 or 7 wins and it will keep me pumped each week when I watch the games.

So we decide to play a short session of blackjack at Caesars. It’s been probably 4 or 5 years since I’ve played at Caesars. We set down and I buy in with $500. Before the first shuffle, I give the pit guy my drivers license and tell him I need a card. He comes back about half way through the first shoe and says “sorry, I can’t rate you”. I’m thinking WTF is going on? So I ask him to explain and he gives some lame excuse about not being able to get a players card from the pit I’m playing in. I had a Caesars player card in the past and ask him if he can just use my license to look up my player ID, and just rate me that way. The whole time he’s talking, the older female dealers face is telling me that this guy is full of crap. He gets done talking and I ask for clarification again, and the pit critter proceeds to tell me 5 times (literally) that I need to walk 500 feet to another pit, give them my ID, wait 10 minutes to get a card, and then bring it back to the table so he can rate my play. I said “I understand you want me to walk over there, but why”. He proceeds to say he can’t and just walks away. I’m thinking to myself, are you really serious? After he leaves, we talk to the dealer about it and she apologizes over and over for his behavior and said she wasn't a fan of his, and this wasn’t the first time she’s seen him pull stuff like that. The session was uneventful otherwise. At this point of the day there was no alcohol involved, so it wasn't anything I said or did. I never did get a players card. FU Caesars.

We went back to Venetian to get our gamble on. This trip all of my play was blackjack other than 30 minutes at Paigow, 30 minutes at 3 card, and 30 minutes at some crazy 3 dice game (forget the name) at the Pallazo. We started off in the Venetian Salon at a $100 table and for 5 hours I never got up or down more than $1000 beyond my buy in. Ended the session even. Right before leaving we asked if they could get a jar of blue cheese olives for our after dinner BJ session as we wanted to drink martini’s that evening while we gambled after dinner. They hooked us up. Our last trip in February they didn’t have blue cheese olives and we gave the drink guy $50 to go to one of the restuarants to get a jar lol. So we thought we would plan ahead…

Dinner Friday night was at Zefferino’s which is above the Canals at the Venetian. It’s an Italian / Seafood place. The food was excellent. No pics unfortunately. Bill came to around $180 for 2 people. Didn’t drink alcohol with dinner which might be a Vegas first.

After dinner we went back to the Salon and began playing blackjack & drinking martini’s with blue cheese olives. We drank and gambled until 1am and called it a night. Ended the session and the day exactly even for the trip. 7 hours of black jack at $185 per hand was my rating for the day. Just as we were walking to the elevators an elder guy was getting in. He must have been in his 80’s and was moving at a snails pace. By his side was a good looking 21 year old trying to make some money for college. It was an awkward situation as both of them wouldn’t make eye contact with us. Finally my brother says “Hey, can I get a picture for facebook”. Both of them put up their arms and said ‘No way’! LOL

Next morning we had breakfast at Grand Lux and then hit the tables. A little pai gow, a little 3 card, and a couple hours of blackjack found me $5,000 down by Noon. I took the afternoon off from the tables and just relaxed.

We had a 5:30 dinner reservation Saturday night at Delmonico’s and the meal was great. The meal was a little glutenous for two, but whatever...

Seafood tower: King crab, 4 lobster tails, a dozen shrimp (substituted xtra shrimp instead of oysters), tuna tartar, and dipping sauces

Bone in Ribeye, creamed spinach, mushrooms, & Alaskan halibut (most of halibut was already eaten before pic)

    Gin & tonics

Bill came to almost $500 before tip.

After dinner we decided to go play BJ over at the Palazzo. The drink girl took forever to come by for our first drink out on the main floor, so when she did, I gave her a $25 chip and said ‘Everytime you come back to this table, I want you to bring me another gin & tonic!”. And she delivered. I kept up for the first 4 or 5, but after that I found myself with 2 full drinks on the table and another that was half full. I had to tell her to stop for a few rounds. We eventually moved from the floor to the high limit room where I continued to pound a bunch more gin & tonics and then things began to get a little fuzzy. I know around midnight my brother told the high limit waitress to get us some omelets. Why the fuck were we eating again after such a large dinner that ended 4 hours earlier? Had to be the alcohol. I barely remember eating mine. Actually, I remember sitting down and looking at it, but not actually eating it. Brother says I tipped the omelete lady in the high limit a black chip after we were finished. Don’t remember that either. Sat at a table with some guy who had a million dollar line of credit. He was betting 14K or so per hand and didn’t do so well. I continued drinking gin & tonics and there are some other things I don’t remember that I was filled in later by my brother. But I got on a heater and ended up with $15K in chips (bought in with 5k). Brother says I went to the players desk in the Palazzo hi limit room, threw down my 15k in chips, and said I wanted to color up. They told me to go to the cage and pointed the way. I then pulled out my players card and again asked for cash. I don’t remember any of it. Good times for sure.

Next thing I remember we are walking back to the Venetian. I wasn’t planning on gambling anymore but when we walked past the Venetian hi limit room, it called my name and I walked in, sat at a BJ table, and bought in for 5k. Pretty quickly I found myself down to 1k from my original buy in. Right after that a guy in his late 20’s walks in and sits down at the table next to me. He buys in for $2,500 and we proceed to go on a great heater. This new guys first bet was half his buy in, and he continued pressing hard. Before I know it he’s at about 25K and is betting table max of 10k and placing down purples for the dealer. Everytime he would win a big hand, which was often, he would yell at the top of his lungs “Obama”. And about 5 seconds later “Joe Biden”! Not sure what that was all about, but it was a great vibe and everyone was cracking up & cheering. Everytime he played table max the guy would ask everyone to chant 'table max, table max, table max'. He won 4 of his 5 table max bets, and of course more yelling at the top of his lungs about political shit. The dealer must have told him a dozen times to watch his language each time he said fuck. He would apologize profusely each time, but it never seemed to stop. The whole place had their eyes on us. We eventually had a crowd around us watching the action. He was winning most of his hands and walked with 45K from his $2,500 buy-in after only two shuffles. My original buy-in was 5k, which I got down to 1k when the heater began, and cashed in dead even. I headed for the room at 3:15am.

Didn’t do any gambling on Sunday as I wanted to come home a winner. Final stats were 18 hours with an average of $285 per hand. 95% of my play was blackjack. Came home with more money that I arrived with. Got 7 hours of sleep from Friday morning to Sunday morning. Took a limo from the hotel to the airport & flight home was on time and uneventful. Host comped all meals, room, and limo service.

This is probably my 20th trip to Vegas with my brother. Unfortunately we don't see each other but a couple times a year. But there is no one else I'd rather spend my time with in Vegas. The trips just seem to get better and better. Love you man.

And now I’m packing again, as I am taking the family to the coastal redwoods for 5 nights here in Northern California. No cell service there so I’ll be totally be off the grid. Leaving Tuesday morning and looking forward to relaxing for the next 5 days.

    Hope you enjoyed the report!

Holy crap!!!...my head hurts from the great run of G&T's and the martinis with the bleu cheese olives. Great times in Vegas with your brother.

Don't worry about the large photos...they make it more life like.

    Thanks for the report.

Yes, you had an honest cab driver. The tunnel would be quicker, but also more expensive.

The dice game sounds like it might have been Sic Bo. Did you like it or no?

I play mostly slots at the Venetian and Palazzo, and enjoyed reading a report from a table player. Sounds like a fun trip with your brother!

Hahaha I was actually in the Venetian HL room when that guy was playing. Chanting table max table max and betting purples for the dealers. You were sitting in the last spot at the table then I'm assuming? That was pretty humorous to watch and pretty crazy

I liek the raiders on the over number this year. As a 49ers fan, I am so sad on this upcoming year. York is a joke and needs to sell his team or resign from his spot. It's sad what he did to the 49ers based on power trip. I'm so close to betting on the under 7.5 for 49ers despite being a big fan.

Awesome trip report! It brought back some great memories. I had a few of those trips when I was in my 20s. I limit myself to 2 drinks nowadays :(

Good to see another member of the Raider Nation!

I just got back tonight from the redwoods. It was so nice being off the grid all week and relaxing. Back to this trip report...

Thanks for the tunnel info. Good to know. And yeah, I think it was Sic Bo. Did I like it? Well, I lost my buy-in, so I didn’t enjoy it too much lol.

Yeah, I was sitting in the last spot at the table. It was a fun session. It was nice to see a fellow gambler turn $2,500 into $45,000.

I feel your pain on the 9ers. And I agree that York seems to be making bad decisions and it’s trickling down to the staff & players. First a great coach leaves, and then so many players retire unexpectedly, and a few great ones leave via free agency. It will be interesting to see if the players can rally together.

    Nice report.

Sounds like you had a fun time. Well, what you can remember of it. ;) but, I think I'd remember paying $100 for an omelet that I never ate.
