A step in the right direction. I would like to see them include an ordnance regarding indecent exposure. I'm only in my 40's but I miss the way things were.

I am not the biggest fan of "regulation", but on the other hand one thing I can't stand is public spaces being used for "commercial" (performing, begging, painting, time share, porn slapping, costume idiots and on and on) purposes when there is no system to license it and charge for it

at some point you end up with wall to wall idiots clogging the place up and disturbing people trying to go about their business......and while I know it really does not hurt "big movie" I still think they need to crack down on the characters for unlicensed use of images/characters because who wants to see a filthy drunken sponge bob or mickey mouse

every other legitimate business has to pay rent, perform in a club, have their art in a gallery, pay MUZAK or other TV/video/music licensing and the overhead associated with all of that why do some idiots think they can just set up shop on the public sidewalk and pay none of that

this is one reason I can't stand food trucks on public streets (on private lots is fine as long as they have permission and that lot has trash cans and bathrooms like is required of a restaurant)

why doesn't every business just move out onto the sidewalk and set up there....well because that would suck so lets crack down hard on the fools that are trying it

There is about 1-2 "performers" (the sax guy and possibly the spray paint art guys) The rest are pretty much just a bunch of people dressed up in skanky costumes while begging. This goes for the strip as well.

I actually find the spray paint art guys pretty interesting and I know many consider it not great "art", but still the way they work and how they can make something go from simple shapes and strokes into actually looking like something is pretty interesting to me

but even then I do not like the idea of them just taking claim to a piece of public space and setting up shop mainly because while their numbers are limited NOW like anything in the USA if you give an inch you find yourself overwhelmed and surrounded by crap

so charge them something, limit their space and let those that have talent and can make money survive while the rest go away before we have them fighting for space or we are tripping over them with "them" being the ones that are just crappy artist with spray paint

"registering" means they want to somehow charge them a fee.

Thats what this is all about,. They see people making money and they arent getting a piece of it.

Simple solution. have them "register" so we can sell them some sort of license as well as fine them for not having one.

Win win for everyone except those trying to make a few bucks.

    just being devils advocate here.

Seems like a sellers permit or something similar would do the trick. No permit = $50 fine. Failure to register or failure to pay the fine = community service picking up trash along the Strip.

I don't think they would have spend a decade fighting to ban them first if all the city wanted was a cut of the action. And I doubt any registration fee would even cover the cost of operating the zones and enforcing registrations.

The issue is that these people are a nuisance oft complained about by paying customers (including many on here), and as such potentially hurting the business of the related properties.

A fee won't work, ACLU would shot it down. But registering will allow background checks.

Listen I'm only 34 years old and by no means am I a prude. It's completely out of control. Just within the last couple of years it's gotten 10 times worse. The naked people really need to be gotten under control...it's absolutely disgusting.

This is not out of control. This is entertainment! People fly from all over the world to see this guy kiss his own ass. Look how enraptured those five spectators are.

Actually, their body language says they're uncomfortable and should probably leave.

Wish they would add a skill test also - have some skill to be a performer. Beyond what already said here, all good points, some of these people.....waste of a human life....

I'd say 90% of the street performers are simply dressed in dirty costumes looking for a handout.

Agreed. This, IMO, is just wrong.

Is the real problem with the people who patronize the buskers? If no one paid they would have been gone long ago IMO.

I have to agree with this one. If they're actually putting on a show, or doing something, they I say leave them(Sax guy/painters/contortionist). But, the people that are just getting into the least amount they can and begging for money just gets on my nerves. You'll just be walking, and they're yelling at you to give them money. I'm there to have fun, not dodge people.

Yeah, they seem to be blocking the main flow of traffic. I just think there should be some kind of licensing or certification or audition or something to distinguish those who offer a genuine talent or entertainment value from those who are just lazy and looking to make a quick buck.

These people are degrading themselves by wearing dirty diapers or thongs or sticking pasties on their ugly little boobs so people will give them $5.00. No fuckin pride. Disgusting. And sad.

I have to agree with Larry. If people weren't giving them money, they would have disappeared. I didn't mind when we started having a few of the costumed characters walking around and part of the fun of downtown has always been its tackiness. But it was starting to get over the top, especially with the near-nudity, and people were definitely getting more aggressive. It used to be that you could just walk by someone asking for money, but now I've had people get abrasive and almost combative when I walked by.
