If the rumors become reality, for those of you who have been through a property changing hands, what are some of the changes you would anticipate and what kind of time frame for a complete transition would you guess it would take? Does something like this automatically induce you to switch properties, or do you take a wait and see stance?

Do a lot of the staff transfer to other mlife properties, or stay put - as a guesstimate percentage wise?

Would the new ownership continue to honor offers already in the pipeline if not already booked?

So many questions. I'm a pretty solid Mirage regular so this could be a big change for me, guess it will be back to Bellagio for me if things go south at Mirage - will wait and see..

Looking forward to some positive feedback on your thoughts on how things might shake out.

One night? Try 14 nights. :rolleyes2: I'm praying it doesn't affect anything for time being.

Buying and Selling a casino (if that is the case) is not like Buying and Selling A House, it takes quite a bit of time, and usually even after the sale you usually won't see any immediate changes. Since I can find no actual news of the sale having taken place I would thing that for the next 6+ months no changes will take place.

Yeah, these things don't happen over night of course. My biggest concern is that we only go once a year for 2 weeks so after next month, I won't be back until next August. So someone who has gone through this before or has any inside knowledge could post how they think this is going to roll out if it's true.

How do they separate the program from MLife? Does e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶o̶n̶e̶ low rollers start from scratch? I've always focused the overwhelming majority of my play to The Mirage, the property having been only that I've ever stayed at. Should I be worried? Should I focus my play on other casinos just to be on the safe side for future comps?

The deal will probably not be complete until the end of the year or later.
If you like MLife, you can hedge your bet by playing at some of their other casinos while you are there.
On the other hand,if Mirage is your favorite, you can wait and see what Starwood does with the property.
They own or mange some great hotels around the world under various names like Le Meridien,Luxury Collection,St Regis, and others.
Many Westins around the country are really nice although the one on Flamingo does fit the bill.

First thought I had was do I have to cancel my September planned stay. Reason being that I won't accumulate Points , tier credits etc. Then I figured that this WILL take a lot longer time than that because nothing has been announced yet and I will still be accumulating Mlife action. Pretty sure that Mlife would not take away any of that just yet.

I too thought how the Mirage is kind of isolated in a way from the Mlife district on the south end. The only property I like as much as Mirage down that way is MGM.

I hope the rumor is false because I love the Mirage the way it is today. We will be there August 9th so our trip shouldn't be impacted either way. If the rumors are true, then it'll be a wait and see approach going forward. I love the location, pool, and the feel/vibe of the resort, especially late night....that would be hard to replace.

Your standing with MLife based on your Mirage play will stand and you will be offered other properties for future stays.

When Treasure Island sold - they had access to the MLife database. So you were not considered a new player when you signed up for a card. So this will likely happen with the new owners at Mirage too. Let's face it, Riviera did not have enough customers to stay open. The new owners are not going to burn bridges with people who want to stay at their new venture.

It's amusing to me how quickly folks will "run" from a property and for the reasons. Sunday afternoon, some posters were already canceling their September reservations at the Cosmo, because of the pool fire that was extinguished in relatively short order. Now in this thread and a couple others, people who purport to really enjoy the Mirage are already strategizing their exit based on a rumor.

I have no reason to discount the Mirage rumor, so let's assume it's true and the official announcement is forthcoming. As some has said, it stands to reason that a deal such as this won't close on midnight Friday and doesn't it also stand to reason that the new owners are going to bend over backwards, as the poster above states to "not burn bridges" with their existing clientele. Nothing wrong with asking questions and showing concern, but I think it's foolish to make a run for the exits at this point.

If you were referring to me, as you can see from my Trips to Vegas count, I'm not an expert on the subject, far from it. It's just that The Mirage is the only place I've play in and get vital comps for my trips. My main concern really is/was how they transition from MLife to whatever it'll become if the story is true. Thus asking the question, if the property stays the same, I've no reason to go elsewhere (unless I become richer). Although it's a bit annoying to be married to a single property, really leaves no plan b whatsoever.

Though you posed the question, my comment is directed more at the responses in this and other threads on this same topic. I also brought up the Cosmo, issue because folks were cancelling future reservation as the fire-department was unhooking the hoses. I guess my main "entertainment" comes from what I call "fair-weather" fans... there's a ton of posters and consumers in general that will double and triple book properties and work the systems and properties to their advantage to the hilt... but let one adverse thing happen to them at said property and they scream from the highest mountain how they'll never go back and tell every one they know about it.

I get loyal to certain brands or companies, far more than is probably good for me, but I use it to my advantage. I make sure they know who I am and of my loyalty. In a situation like this... I'd wait till the announcement is actually made and I'd be writing (not an e-mail) a real letter on paper to a person at Starwood. I'd do my research ahead of time to find out who at Starwood my letter should be written to and I'd congratulate them on their purchase and let them know I'm a frequent guest of the property and I'm just getting started in the whole Vegas "thing"... blah... blah... blah. I let them know of my concerns. You can bet they're very concerned with not only maintaining existing clientele, but building upon that. Open up that line of communication... you may be pleasantly surprised OR you may get completely rebuffed, in which case you'll then know to cross the joint off your list. Give them the opportunity to earn your business. It's tough with very large companies, but not unheard of...

Many disagree with me, but I believe there are some roles and responsibilities with being a good customer and some things a customer can do to stand out from the herd to their advantage... the masses are "what have you done for me lately and what can you do for me now" consumers. Businesses know it's 100 times easier and more cost effective to keep an existing customer than to attract a new one, but so many people fail to give them that opportunity... they just pack up the tent and move!

Ken brings up a great point below that I overlooked... if you're an MGM (MLIF) fan and could care less about the Mirage, you could certainly work that to your advantage as well, in my opinion. They will be looking to hang onto those folks as well.

No one panic. As noted, the sale is going to take a while if it ultimately goes through. MGM Resorts will try hard to keep folks in house elsewhere just as the new owners will try to keep Mirage folks at home. And for a group of folks who tend to gripe to no end about two conglomerates having a stranglehold on the Strip, this kind of stuff would be cheered, you'd think.

The sale makes sense. MGM still has a large debt load, and has a mid-luxury redundancy problem. If you are going to end multiple places, they are going to have some pecking order in how they are perceived luxury wise. And that perception will greatly impact the rates that you can command. MGM owned far too many places originally built to be 4 or 5 star properties.

Mirage is their northmost property (not counting Circus Circus, because my world is happier when I pretend its not there). It does not have the convention space of many of the others, I believe. It is not at the club or restaurant forefront. And (again not counting CC) it is their most isolated. Also, you can think of it as a tug of war between the arena and the Linq for what can be the focal point of the new strip. Rooming people in the Mirage just dumps them into CET - V/P land.

Now most of their strip presence is in a single corridor with the arena in the middle of it, and trams going from near the middle to the outer reaches on each side.

This is not a proposed purchase by Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
It is being made by the guy who was chased out of Starwood and now is a hedge fund investor and uses Starwood Investments as the name.
He will also need someone to mangae the investment. This may well complicate and extend the process.

well I agree with the thought that if this goes through it will be months and months before any changes take place
just like D-Bank sold the Cosmo, However looking at how Cosmo changed and basically gave anyone except slot players the finger?
I'd say there's reason to be concerned at what changes Starwood might implement with players and gaming

face it to bean counters, the whole town should have nothing but slots and no dealers or pit critters

Maybe i have been going to Vegas too long, but some people are saying the Mirage is "isolated" from the South strip, OMG, what will happen next? The LinQ vs the Arena, the North strip may as well be Downtown, Mandalay Bay is closer to LA than Mirage, etc etc.
I am crippled but i can still walk from Mandalay Bay up to Wynn/FSM easily, and when Resorts World is finished, i'll be walking up there as well. The Strip isn't like it was before Mirage/Excalibur, when you would be bored walking to Casinos because there was nothing in between the Hotels, so we used to drive to most casinos, especially past Aladdin going south, that's why you used to park ON the Strip instead of behind it. Nowadays, post 1989, you have places to go to peak you're interest on the way to your destination by walking. This isn't rocket science.
    Talk about being spoiled.
The distance is still the same on the Strip, whether it be back in the old days or now. If you don't feel like walking from Wynn all the way down to MB, we have free Trams or paid Monorails to help you if you don't feel like crossing the street, my gawd.

If the sale does go through, take a look at Tropicana.......you people wanted diversity, now you will have it, away from MGM/Caesars in controlling most of the Strip, well, that could be a good thing. Tropicana and Mirage will no longer be an MGM property, although many people will not be able to gamble at both properties because they're too "isolated"..........LOL.

I'm just curious as to if / when it is sold would the new owners remove what made the Mirage so popular. The Volcano, LOVE, the aquarium feel, the secret forest. Honestly, I never stayed at Mirage but I make it a mission to walk through it once every trip to Vegas (which isn't that often) and I do love the feel of it and always expressed interests in staying there one day. We'll see how it turns out I guess.
