Just got an offer from NYNY and was reading the fine print. I then read this section:

" If you have a complimentary night and do not cancel before the 48 hour window you will be subject to a $75 mid-week and $125 weekend cancellation fee. "

This is the first time I've seen this stipulation. In the past, no deposit is required for Comp Nights (as long as the first night is Comp), and never have I had a problem with a late cancellation.

Is this another trend that MLife properties are starting (to discourage last minute cancellations?)

I checked a few of my offers and didn't see anything like that. Although my last stay at Bellagio booked through VIP marketing they asked for a credit card at booking - which I've never had to provide before. Now my upcoming stay at MGM Grand booked through a host - no credit card.

Not a terribly bad idea. I would imagine some people just no show and never bother to call. The hotel then holds the room for the non-guest.

Is that only for the New Year's Eve offer? I'm sure they want to make sure all rooms are filled.

More than likely it is because of the New Year's Eve offer. One of the busiest times of year in Vegas. Any other time of the year it's probably not an issue.

maybe also to prevent / deter people from booking multiple rooms at different properties, and then never bothering to show up or check in at the NYNY room.

I received on offer via email on 7/16 from NYNY without that language. I received a very similar offer on 7/22 via email from NYNY that did include that language. The offers had overlapping time periods (but not the same exact date range).

    Very weird

Here's one from the Venetian/Palazzo with a $479 no show fee + the lovely historical level of play clause:

Offer is expressly conditioned upon recipient maintaining his or her historical level of play as of the mailing date of this offer. This offer is intended solely for the person with the Grazie ID number referenced above. The Venetian and The Palazzo will only honor offers made to the intended recipient and will not honor any offers that have been sent or received in error. Failure to maintain historical level of play may result in revocation of offer. Offer is intended for addressee only, non-transferable, subject to limited availability, and may not be used in conjunction with any other offer within a five-day period. Guest is limited to two promotional or event offer reservations at any given time. Minimum two night stay required. Must present credit card at time of booking and upon check-in. Cancellations must be received at least 72 hours prior to arrival or will be subject to a charge up to $479 plus tax for the first night's room.

The bold/underline added above. Just as a clarification that you are not required to play at the same level during THIS visit to get your comped room. Of course, lower play will result in less offers going forward and it could impact and offers already booked for a later date.

    But what about this part?

Failure to maintain historical level of play may result in revocation of offer.

I would take that tomean, if your HISTORICAL level as of the offer date and current date have changed, stuff can happen.

If you play has not changed up to that point, then all is fine. Change of play AFTER is another story.

This is the verbiage from CET and has been for a good while:

I am not sure why it's a hardship to cancel a room you don't need in time for the hotel to potentially rebook. And stiffer cancellation policies are a nationwide trend for hotels.

Well Milfe apparently sucks for cancelling when you didn't book through mlife.com, my gf had to wait on hold 15 min. on the phone last night to cancel our sept. Mirage res. CET took less than a minute though the TR site.

Going in late Aug. now to save money.
