Any tips for first time at SLS

I will have a solo trip to Vegas in mid November for the Rock 'n' Roll race and I'll stay at SLS. It's going to be my first time at SLS (and actually my first time that is not really on the main strip) so any tips such as restaurants, visiting spots are much appreciated. I will fly in mainly for the race so I probably will want to spend most of my time near SLS, unless you guys think it's probably too boring then I can make a few trips to the main strip. Thanks!

 

Rooms are very nice. Stayed over New Years Eve and it was busy at that point. Casino was never busy though. Only ate at the Diner type place. Good food and decently priced for a new hotel/casino. Be wary as they do place a $150 hold per night per room. This really tied up my card during New Years as we had four rooms for four nights. They did a nice job with the place though!

 

Wife and I stayed here this past week and were impressed by the hotel. First time staying there. Stayed in a World Tower room. The Story Tower has "trendier" rooms, but apparently they're much smaller and only 2 tiny elevators. The wait time seemed fairly long for elevators in general. The Lux Tower is supposed to be their premium rooms and slightly larger. We liked our room. It was spacious enough, modern, clean, and well appointed.

The staff was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. We played a little in the casino, but it's kind of small. Wife won a couple hundred playing slots. VP selection isn't great. As the above poster mentioned, the casino never seemed very busy.

If you're looking for high end restaurants, Katsuya is excellent. More affordable, Umami burger is also good.

If you like shopping, there's Fred Segel boutique there. Not my thing, but it's trendy. We didn't go to the pool, but it seemed nice (although in Nov when you go, you might not want to do the pool thing).

The Monkey Bar was pretty cool, but that's about all we did there. I think they have a night club and lounge, but we didn't visit either. Other than the "World's Largest Gift Shop" and a big CVS (I think) across the street, the nearest other casinos would be a decent trek (Stratosphere , Circus Circus, Westgate?). There is a monorail stop at the back of the casino though and we used it to get to center strip when we wanted to wander off, so that's always an option.

 

SLS prides itself on its food and service. Every meal I've had there, from the café up to the nicest restaurant has been outstanding. And, the wait staff in the bars and lounges really seemed determined to be pleasant.

Thank you so much everyone! Sounds like I can just hang around the hotel for good and affordable meals, but I'll definitely get day passes for the monorail in case I need to go to the strip. Anyone has any experience about $20 trick there? I looked up the info in the $20 trick section but there's not much information about SLS there. Since I booked the room via Priceline's Name Your Own Price, I think I'll be put in the World Tower Room. Is it possible to try to get an upgrade (even with some fees) to other towers?

I forgot one thing ... I always want to stay hydrated in Vegas, so in my past trips, I always visited Walgreen to get a few packs of water. Is there any spots near SLS that I can do the same thing?

 

HUGE, new Walgreen's right across the street from SLS now! Where the old Holy Cow once stood!

 

Yep - and that Walgreen's is open 24/7. It has fresh sandwiches, salads, fruit and a small but decent liquor/wine section. There're packs of chilled water in the North side banks of coolers.

Bring your own drinks, last time I was there I blew through $200 for over an hour on penny slots before a waitress came around, 30 minutes later, still no drink. Worst service I've ever had on LVB....

 

I had the opposite problem, I was playing at the $25 double-deck table in the back (which I highly recommend, even though it's the devil and takes all of my money every time I go near it). It took the waitress 10-15 minutes to realize people were back there and come to our table, but after that I was getting glasses of Ketel on the rocks faster than I could drink them.

 

I've stayed there. Not much around the hotel if you're into walking around. There's the Stratosphere, Circus Circus, and Riviera. Otherwise, you can take a cab or the monorail to the Strip. It's quick and easy.

The hotel itself is great. Fun pool, very swanky and chic, nice rooms etc. Thumbs up.

 

I had shockingly good drink service there - super quick and good quality.

I'd totally stay there if not for the location - I'm a center strip girl.

 

There is no Riviera...it's closed.

 

I have to say, its location is not awesome but we didn't find it to be a problem using a car OR without and only using the monorail. If you are rated at any other casino, call ahead and talk to a host about evaluating your play for a comped room up front. I did that with my play through MLife (mostly Aria) and got three nights in a World Superior no problem. We liked that room...elevators were not a problem. From what I understand there isn't much better in the Lux tower. It's such a small place with limited views I wouldn't aim for an upgrade...our room was large enough and we enjoyed having a window over the bed for some sunlight that didn't hit us directly in the face.

Stuff is closing left and right there -- no more buffet, no more Life nightclub, Fred Segal jeweler is closed, and Sayers Club runs as a comedy club on select nights (???)...hopefully there is stuff open when I stay there first week of November as well. I have to say, for my play (which was actually lower than usual) I have been assigned a host and just got my first offer for two nights, $50 F&B and $75 Code Play. Prior to that I called and easily got four nights for that trip during SEMA.

They have a day club pool (Foxtail) and a tiny little pool accessed behind High Limit via a nondescript elevator called the Life Pool (even though renamed still had LUX Pool on the elevator panel...or it might be vice versa) -- either way, while nice, it did attract families and there were a ton of kids...drinks were expensive ($18 for tropical something or other) but service was good. The grill food out there was the best on property... best burger I've had in ages.

Gaming is ok...not many options but part of me doesn't always want to get lost in a casino.

Music...ugh...they run a 14 track set non-stop...rock, pop, hip-hop hits and it finishes and repeats...and then there is sometimes a DJ playing music way too loudly at the same time as the already loud piped in tracks. It gave me a headache twice... I might be too old for this but if all you've got is old people playing, then turn the music down!

Food options are limited but the diner is okay and Ku Noodle right next door was excellent (especially the signature rice pot thing we had...our server was great and told us we didn't need two entrees as it would feed two if not more, easily).

Drink service is surprisingly slow on the casino floor.

Valet was QUICK...and they have an automated system to facilitate this as well.

Service overall was TOP NOTCH...except the front desk... but otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and want this place to do well...have fun!
