I have an offer for an 'exclusive' free cruise, this fall...if we get 200k in slot machine tier credits at MB only.

I am usually a craps player and have little experience in slot play. The wife, only plays slots but at a moderate pace.

Any insight, into the least painful way to play the slots would be appreciated from the slot experts. Like machines to avoid, machines to play etc.

Help me understand, what we are in for....if we go for it????

    Cheers

Unless you really, reaLLY, REALLY want the cruise, you can probably purchase one for less than the amount you'd need to gamble on slots.

I've told this story numerous times before, but it illustrates the "idiocy" of playing for comps.

I was 100,000 TC away from Platinum level last year. I decided to try to get it all in one 3 day trip at Mirage.

My normal budget for a 3 day trip is about $4K. I was down $7k to make 100K TC. In the last 30 Minutes (literally, as I returning back to my room to pack for the trip home), I hit a $6000 jackpot.

200K TC is about $60,000 in slot action, or $200K in VP action.

mLife Platinum members (200,000 get a "free cruise" every year. This sounds like a variation on that. Remember that the mLife year ends 9/30/2015, so you only have 3 months to make up the difference between what you have in mLife TCs now and 200,000.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is "exclusive" and MB only.

    Thanks DaiLun.

We aren't going out of our way to get it.

I just wanted a rough idea, of what something like this would take to attain....you gave me that.

It is a private invitation from MB.

    Thanks

I would budget 8k for something like this and hope you get enough wins throughout to keep some money in your pockets.

    Thanks touche22.

Our normal budget would be about 5k for the trip.

If the wind blows in the right direction...who knows???

Are there any machines that we should avoid? or play?

There are probably ppl in here who could tell you better then me, but you have to watch out for specialty slots where the coin in required to earn a TC is higher than a 'regular' slot. What is a specialty slot? Ask mlife when you are there. A lot of the branded games like Walking Dead etc are specialty i believe. So while fun, not a good way to earn tc if thats your goal. Probably best is a classic 3 reel mechanical slot in 5-10$ denom. Here is a volatility list of slot games Lean towards frequent wins lower payout i would think. Im at the other end trying to hit the grand salami!http://slotfanatics.com/showthread.php?3308-Volatility-is-there-a-list-somewhere

I also think that you have to consider the value of what is being offered. What category of cabin? Are taxes, port charges and gratuities included? The cost of transportation to the port city?
Through CET I have a balcony cruise available to me. Taxes etc are an additional cost, as air fare would be. I never used my free cruise last year. If you like cruising and can factor in that the "free cruise" might require $2k - $3k more.

We fly to Vegas (our own expense). They pay for everything from there, for an entire week on the cruise plus some extra perks while in Vegas.

It is a very intriguing offer. This is the main reason for asking these absurd questions....LOL.

I received this offer as well and have emailed my host for more info because the details are not clear. The offer implies that your flight from Vegas to Fort Lauderdale is also included in the offer.

You can also qualify through table play...I hope to get the details from my host and pass them on.

Touche22 stated correctly. Make sure that it's not a specialty slots which requires more $$ to get one TC.

Also keep in mind that Royal Caribbean (mLifes cruise partner) only sails out of the East Coast (as I recall). That is why the cruise did not appeal to me. (that and the 6 years I spent in the US Navy)

200k is no joke these days.

    used to be nothing.

but those were the days when you could earn 1M a day.

now 1M in a trip is solid.

You're looking for the lowest variance game possible that will give you the most TC's for each dollar passed through the machine. If it must be on slots, that means no progressive slots, as they only add to your variance. As others have said, any specialty slot will give you fewer TC's per dollar. Try a few different non-progressive, non-specialty machines and run a specific amount of action through each. Check your TC's before and after you play at each machine. Then you'll know which gives you the most TC's per dollar of action.

It would be a bonus if you can find a bank of machines where the return is specified. I doubt you will find one at Mandalay, but if you are allowed to earn the points at any MGM property, Luxor or Excalibur might have a few machines with signs that say "99% payback" or similar.

To qualify for this offer you need to accumulate 200,000 tier credits at Mandalay Bay from June 1 to Sep 1, but you don't need to be staying there. I'm planning to get in 2 trips before Sep and hopefully get enough credits. I typically play the "older" 3 reel slots (like double diamond) and 9 line slots...and avoid specialty slots.

You also get credit for table play.......although my host wouldn't give me a "formula" for exact points. He said Roulette earns the most, while craps would earn the least...so basically high theo earns more points.

There is a pre flight party on Oct 10, and they charter a flight to Fort Lauderdale with return to Vegas on Oct 18. All taxes and luggage transfer to the ship is included.

Boy, first I'll point out that for what you could spend earning those 200,000 tier credits, you could get a kick-ass cruise, and have plenty left over to spend in the casino on that cruise.

But, if you are determined, my last 3 "M Life" trips, I have hit 200,000 on each 3 day trip - for less than 5K. But that was hitting 2-3 hand pays during the trip. I've also had trips where I've blown through 7K and barely got to 100,000 tier credits.

I'd stick to 3 reel machines. Stay away from the specialty slots (themed). Good luck!

    What ship is this on?

If anyone takes the offer, I'd be curious as to which itinerary, ship, cabin.

7 (or more) day, Quantum (or Oasis) class ship, balcony'd (or outside) cabin - would make the 200K effort for me.
3-4 day, Voyager (or lower) class ship, inside cabin - forget it.

Based on Vegas TT's post it seems to be the 7 day Eastern on Independence of the Seas.

I agree with several posters that if you just spent the money you're likely to lose on the vacation you'll come out better. That said, you're asking what you're in for if you're gonna do it.

The fastest way to get there is probably to play a non-speciality slot like Josie and a few others recommended. I believe that MLife is 10 tier credits per slot point, so you're looking at 20,000 points of slot play. Every $3 of play is a point, so you're looking at $60,000.00 coin in. House Win percentage on the strip over the trailing twelve months on dollar slots is 6.31% (much better than the 25 cent variety). So, if you plug $60,000 through dollar slot machines you'd make your cruise. Your expected loss would be $3,786 (60,000 x .0631). Now, in order to stomach the variance you;'re going to need a bankroll of probably 5 times that. You could get there even faster with $5 slots, but variance is going to be higher as well.

Theoretically the least painful way to get there is going to be video poker. Even though it's $10/point, the paytables are theoretically better. There's a Triple Double Bonus spin poker Machine in MB's high limit room that is 99.58% payback at $5/bet. ($25 per line x 9 plays for spin poker = betting $225 a spin). You'd need to do $200,000.00 (889 spins) of coin in to make the 20,000 points and 200,000 tier credits. Theoretically the house will only win $840 on that play. However, Triple Double Bonus really has some huge variance swings. If you don't hit any royals or premium hands you can be down a ton. If you do you'd be up a ton. You'd also have a lot of hand pays, and taxes to worry about (A dealt royal or 4 As with kicker would be like a $180K hit) . You'll need a huge bankroll to be able to play this, I could see easily being down $15-30K during the run if you hit a bad patch.

The next best video poker machine at MB is the .25 loose deuces by the poker room. With perfect play its a 99.20% payback. If you ran 200,000 through it the house will theoretically win $1600. You'll be much close to that result with less variance swings because of the many hands at lower stakes. The problem is it will take you a whopping 160,000 hands at $1.25 a hand to reach your point goal. If you play 80 hands an hour, that's 2000 hours of play. That's not gonna happen.

So that leaves you with the 8/5 Bonus Poker Machines. Payout is 99.17% so the theoretical win to MB is $1660. Bonus Poker is going to have a lot less variance than the Triple Double Bonus above, so there's less chance of needing a gigantic bankroll. You can play 10 play Bonus poker on the All star Poker machines just outside the the HL Room for either $2 or $5 a hand ($100 or $250) a pull. This is what I would actually play if I needed to meet the goal. I'd do 800 pulls at $250 a pull. If you brought $10K and had the ability to draw on more if necessary, chances are pretty good you would make your goal. For the most part your results will be pretty close to the theoretical loss (higher if you hit royals lower if you don't).
