After watching the Mike Trout show (aka the 2015 All-Star Game) I am hoping someone can tell me whether the home-field advantage given to the winning league affects World Series odds or other baseball lines. For instance, since the AL won, does that improve the odds for a team like the Yankees or Angels? What about NL teams?

It would definitely give AL teams a slight boost in the World Series odds with home field advantage: that's why it's called an advantage. Good luck with your lines!

There are a few different ways one could interpret your question, to address each one:

If you mean the odds on a per game basis: This is a "YES" and "NO" answer.
It is "YES" because one team is going to get home field advantage because their team won it in the all star game... but its kind of also a "NO" because it doesn't really matter who the team is or what league they are in, just simply the fact that they have home field advantage on that particular game makes the home team the favorite for that game.

If you mean "its days before the world series starts, both teams have been determined but they have yet to play a game": in that case the team with the home field advantage will be a slight favorite (something like -120).

If you mean that you are thinking about making some future bets right now and does this give the AL favorites (Yankees, Royals, Angels) better odds to win it all because they will have home field advantage in the world series: the future odds given by the sportsbooks don't seem to change right away and looking at the last three world series the home team won 9 out of 17 games (0.529), so on paper it doesn't seem to really translate to an advantage.

    Auggie,

Thanks for your help. I definitely could have been clearer with my question. I plan to place some MLB futures bets next month (World Series, NL and AL Pennant) and was curious if the home-field advantage caused bookmakers to adjust their futures odds. Based on your answer, the ASG home-field advantage award does not have an immediate impact on futures odds but it might affect the line once playoff seeds are announced, and throughout the playoffs.

I guess at the end of the day home-field does not make as much a difference on lines as Starting Pitchers, injuries, and weather. In my opinion, the strongest teams through the first half have been NL teams (PIT, STL, WSH) and I was just curious whether having more WS games in AL parks (with the DH and all) tilted the balance in the AL's favor. Or Not. I know it is way to early to predict anything. Just wondering.
